87sheerips Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) OK, here we go. First of all, i have searched posts and have the electrical FAQ, but i just dont believe something big is wrong. It was running right on the money, then 5 minuites later after I shut it down nothing, no spark----- Just got my new pipes on, ready to break this bitch in. Started on third kick , jets are right on, everything is great. I take her out, runs amazing, with no problems. I start it a copuple more times in my garage to make sure everything is ok for the trails. I load it up, take it 10 miniutes down the road. I go to start it-----nothin, no spark!!! all wiring is intact, everything seems fine. Where do I do from here!!!?? stator?????? CDI?????? coil??????? i dont know what to approach first, and/or what to test. Please put yur thinkin caps on, i need to do to the dunes at the end of the month!!!!!!! thanks a lot guys................ Edited April 18, 2005 by 87sheerips Quote

ledofthezep Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 15CDI!!!! Definately a steal & worth having around for a spare if that's not it at that price... Next I'd be looking into the coil & stator, in that order. Quote
fast500#12 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 (edited) check all your grounds first and then look over your harness. after that check the resisters in you plug caps. check for spark ater each thing. check your kill switch and key switch. read out your stator red wire to green. read or swap out your coil. swap cdi box. be sure to check for spark after every step so you know what did the trick and how to fix it again the next time. i had similar issues not to long ago. do a search for "replaced stator coil and cdi still no spark" i did every thing you could do with the electrical system. chronicwatson Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 try cutting back abit of your plug wires Quote
87sheerips Posted April 19, 2005 Author Report Posted April 19, 2005 No one knows huh well, i had exposed light wires, that could have hit my pipes and possibly shorted something?? I mean, I shut it off , then it wouldnt spark when i turned it on. How can overide the kill switch? I just think this is somethin simple. Quote
ledofthezep Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I dunno man...other than what I suggested in my previous post. Just take the 4 wires and twist them all together, tape them up when you're done. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 You don't want to over-ride the kill switch, how would you turn it off then? You haven't let us know if you checked your coil, or checked for any broken grounds, etc. We can't just pull the answer out of our ass without you telling us what all you have done. It's a two way street man, what have you done or checked? Quote

87sheerips Posted April 19, 2005 Author Report Posted April 19, 2005 My grounds are fine. Unfortunately im on the other side of the state for a couple weeks and will not be able to test anything else. As far as I know when I left it, The wiring is good, grounds are good, and It started great until I shut it off the last time. Yea, I know tis a two way street, I guess im just a lil frustrated with all this shit since This happened right before i had to leave it for two more weeks!!!!!!!! ---thanks for the help though guys!!! bigboybanshee Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I had an issue that was similar to this one a while back....my keyswitch had a short in one of the wires causing it to work sporadically. I went through checking my stator, coil, CDI, and proceeded to the wiring and that's when I found it. I bypassed the keyswitch and bam, problem solved. When you get the chance, trace your entire harness and look for any pinched or broken wires. Insulation may have worn off a critical wire and it's grounding itself out on the frame or something...Make sure all connections to your coil and CDI are snug, maybe something rattled loose I can't imagine it being anything too major, it's just finding it that can be the PITA Quote
yodamonkey64 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 i had to change my clutch cable a while back and what i found was that when i tried to start it up after i changed it, it was dead like yours when it had been runnin just a half hour before. what happened was when i threaded the cable under the tank it caught the harness from the ignition switch. so i took everything off and found out thats what it was. hope u find it man. its a bitch when u cant ride ur shee. mine is broke right now too. anyone know how to break out an old bearing from a swingarm. i might have to mill it out cause it melted to my swingarm. thanks guys Quote
