new on here considering either the new 05 le black or buying a used one.either way im going to throw some money into it.im not new to this.my last quad was an 88 tecate4 i built from the frame.im used to and love the two stroke power.i never lost to any quad especially a 4 stroke.so anyway the only thing i think i could compare to would be a built banshee.unfortunately it got stolen.so id appreciate some input,do i save money buy used hope its not a timebomb and mod it out or should i spend the extra money on new one and mod it with the peace of mind that its new?either way its gonna be built up to embarras all the new 450s.thanks in advance for the help guys.

If it were me, I would go with one 1-3 years old in great shape with really low hours. You can save yourself a lot of money to mod with that way and you won't take such a big hit when you decide to sell it later on.

True Dat, I got a 2001 Shee for $2500. It still had the original tires with about 70% tread on them. It had hardly been ridden, or ridden very easy. Runs so good, I almost hate to tear into it.......almost! And modding it is almost as fun as riding!!!!!!!!!! Do it yourself and enjoy it much more I think!

If you really want to build your own that bad just start from the frame and work yourself up. Ebay.com :)

You said you wanted to mod everything well then buying a pos wouldnt hurt that much cause your replacing everything anyway as I see it. As long as frame isnt bent, rusted etc......

If your looking for a project bike then I'd build it piece by peice. Its alot harder to split the cases when you know that it means your not gonna get to ride whereas you split the cases cuz you only have 50% of the bike together. If your looking to ride now then I'd suggest going with a used one. Really the only difference between a 1991 and a 2005 is a brake light.

I would buy a good used one. You can put a lot of $$ and stuff on it and still not spend what you would on a new one. Plus like you said, you can do it your way.

thanks guys ok two more questions.how much for an after market frame?and are they worth it for the handling and weight improvements?ok 3 questions.how much should it cost to build a bad ass shee from a frame up or from a rolling chassis?i have always loved the sound of a banshee i am a 2stroke addict and im glad they still make banshees.you guys here are much more informative than any other forum so i dunno if anyone gives you credit or lets you know so im gonna ,you guys seem way more knowledgeable and much more helpful than people on other forums.and here i dont have to hear everyone say buy a 450.my 88 tecate4 only had bigger carbs fmf fatty reeds and port and i smoked i mean smoked 450s.no offense but most banshees wouldnt race me especially after seeeing me shut down in 4th after embarrasing 4 strokes like 400 exs z400s raptors, never raced a ds,and a few 450s although were new at the time so not tooo modded.not saying their werent banshees that could beat me but i never raced them.there was a guy who had a shee with alot of motor work and nitrous near me i always wanted to race just to see how bad hed kill me.when he raced other worked shees hed only be a lil ahead racing with one hand lookin all relaxed, then hed hit the nos and wave goodbye.since then i knew after my tecate was done i wanted a banshee.ok one last thing sorry im a lil buzzed pool league night.porting if someone could explain exactly how they port differently for mx,trails, drag, etc and how that works.i ride in nj mostly wide open pits and hills and some trails but also would like to start hitting mx tracks occasionally.if i port for mx,or get a low to mid pipe, will i still be able to hang in drags especially since there are starting to be more and more modded 450s around?im sorry fo all the questions but im new to banshees and excited about them.im 30 yrs old and when i ride, fix or think about quads i feel young again.final word im seeing way too many young boys not wearing gear or even helmets.guys gear up at least wear helmets.p.s. rockets or cpis? :bolt:

i bought mine brand new because I wanted to do everything my way to it. Not get someone elses modded bike. I guess its just a personal preference.

I bought new because I did not know at the time what to look for in a used one, but if I did it again I would buy a good used one with at least pipes and a few bolt ons. There is so many stock parts like pipes that are worthless and will not bring you any money to sell. If you get a modified used bike you can sell a lot of the parts if you don't like them.
