Drag racing

Some of my friends say they go down to this drag stip in windsor north carolina and watch these 3 wheeler and 4 wheeler drag races. They swear up and down that their is a guy with a 250r atc that is the fastest and hasn't been beat by anything. They said he has pipes alcohol and motor work. They said that he has beat any banshee and says that they are pigs. I'm 22 years old so this story is not made up by a 13 year old, but I just cant believe what they are saying. They said he twisted his axle because it had so much torque. They said he has to start it buy pulling it with his car. This is what really is unbelievable. They said that he takes the base gaskets for the 3 wheeler and adds one to raise the cylinders. But he puts a thinner gasket on the head to lower that. So they said thats what makes it so much faster. Just curious if anyone has seen this or even seen a fast 250r atc dragger that is so fast that it beats 500cc banshees. I just don't believe it. But they said their going to take me down their to watch.

i don't usually reply to posts like this, but you can squeeze some serious power out of a 250r. i've seen atv's with modified snomobile engines, and 4cyl. crotch rocket engines in them, and yet to see them twist an axle. and he probably tows it to start it, because its a peice of shit. you can double the base gaskets to advance port timing alittle, which is why you would put a smaller head gasket in them, to compensate for the reduction of compression.

I saw a 250R 3 wheeler at Glamis on Thanksgiving weekend one year that smoked just about everything at Olds, he had a CR500 motor on alky stuffed in it.

Been to a lot of strips all over......the fastest atc500r (with nitrous)I have seen turns consistent 4.3's in 300ft. The fastest atc250r is in the 4.5 -4.6 range with aftermarket cylinder. That really is'nt very fast in the Banshee world so I call bullshit. But there will be some Banshee guys crying as soon as Calvin gets a bunch of the Sabretooth 500 motors out to the public! I have seen one it turned 4.1's with no wheelie bar and a short swingarm. And has since turned a 3.9. That thing is smokin fast for a single.

I do not doubt someone could build the engine to do it, but I think something else in the drivetrain would be a weaker link. What is the axle made of? Peanut butter - the smooth kind without nuts?...

I saw a bunch or really hot 250r quads at Horse Falls OR on Laborday weekend that surprised me how fast they were but there were some hot banshees there as well that would smoke them.

I too have seen some really fast 250r on the Oregon coast. Most of them are not anything close to 250 anymore. There was a white one at Hauser, north of horsefalls, that was crazy fast. It seem northern Oregon has a lot of builders that specalize in 250r's. Like LRD, White knuckle, MP racing, Shortys, and they bring them to the dunes to test and tune.

It wouldn't suprize me to see a fast 250r. But I doute if its is close being stock!!!

My brother in law still hasn't got his Suzuki LT with the CR500 engine in it finished yet.... it will run like a bat outta hell with a pipe thats not even welded all the way up from where they cut it to fit.

I kinda want to make my 3rd banshee like that, if I ever get the 2 I'm working on done.

Well what kind of drag is he running? 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, 300 ft? Ive seen a guy at the drag strip here pull 11 sec 1/4 mile. I've seen videos of banshee's in the 10s. Not to mention all the banshee's everywhere running in the 3s in 300ft races. He might be fast, but there is someone faster somewhere.

If I remember right, whatshisname with the turbo hayabusa shee had to use a titanium axle because the stock axle was preloading (like a torsion bar), and stripping teeth off the sprockets. Its possible, but I doubt a cr500 is doing it.
