  1. powdercoated retro banshee

  2. Yes the reeds are new. I found a flywheel for 100 bucks so I'll throw that on and report later.
  3. Carbs are spotless, the thing is very sporadic and it never has run correctly. I replaced everything except for the flywheel. The plugs are br8es. It has no air leaks either.
  4. It is aftermarket, I'm not sure which brand oit is though. I am thinking maybe it needs a flywheel and stator.Maybe the stuffs being slightly worn is making it not spark well at higher rpms.
  5. Yea i know 250 is kind of lean but my plugs are black, i had 280s in it before and when i went to the 250s it did not seem to change how it ran. I do have a set of 300 mains i could throw in it. Hopefully i can get some time tomorrow to work on it again.
  6. Okay here is the story, I got this banshee off a friend and it was a basketcase to say the least. I have a new crank, top end, coil, it had dmc 916 pipes, 28mm mikuni tm flatslide carbs, with 250 main 35 pilot, 5l1 needle on 2nd to top clip, aftermarket cdi and stator. When I run the thing, it idles okay and has good power down low, but as soon as I hit the throttle it falls flat on its face. I have tried different main jets and it does not seem to make a difference in the symptoms. The only thing i have not replaced was the flywheel, the studs have slight wear marks on them from when the crank bearings were worn. I did put a different pickup coil in it as well, which I am wondering if the connection at my insulated butt connectors may be arching possibly. Also I the cdi is a monocurve cheapo off of ebay, I tried 2 different stock cdi boxes and they would not even let it start. I really hate to keep throwing parts at this thing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  7. yea it seems to have a good spark but once it warms up it runs kinda flat. it has a dmc 916 with a graydon proline intake, new cdi, new coil, fairly new stator. The spark is nice and blue till it gets oil fouled, I just got a set of mikuni 28mm flat slides in so i'm going to try those and see how it runs.
  8. Yea it was pretty shot so i replaced the pickup coil. This thing was a basket case when i got it and never was able to get it to run right. I have no air leaks, the pistons and rings are new. New connecting rods, crank bearings, and seals. It seems to run bad at low speeds and foul the plugs, but as i go down on the pilot jet it seems to run worse and still gets oil all over the plugs. My mixture is 50:1 with amsoil synthetic and 91 non-ethanol fuel. I also tested the ohms on the pickup and stator and both are good. The only other thing i can think of is a bad head gasket. but i'm not sure how to tell if that's bad or not. My carb is a single 35PWK with 157 main and 42 pilot jet with an eek needle on the second clip.
  9. Recently I rebuilt my motor after having bad crank bearings. When the motor would run the studs on the flywheel rubbed the pickup coil and slightly wore then down a little. Now it seems like it runs very rich but when I re jet it,the thing doesn't respond and still fouls the plugs. I am wondering if I should replace the flywheel but am curious if there is a way to tell if it's actually bad.
  10. On the Ebay add it stated that they were 35W but on the packaging it says 35/35W up 75/75w, the bulb it self just says 12v 35/35w so I'm a little confused
  11. I just put some 35w bulbs on and they are dim unless y ou run only one bulb. The box says 75w on it as well so I'm thinking that may be to much. I'm wondering if it has something to do with I have a 87 and the bulbs are for a newer machine. Below is the link to the bulbs I got URL: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=270954377814
  12. Thanks for the replies, I'm down to a 165 main. Once I get my shocks redone I'll burn off that excess fuel. I'm fairly certain I have it figured out. I also put a 45 pilot in it. Hopefully that will do the trick.
  13. Timing should be stock, I orderered a new idle screw, I think that the one on it its messed up (plastic). I well check the floats tonight, didn't think that they were off because it doesn't leak GAs at all.
  14. Will that's interesting, I use to have a banshee with the dynoport 2 into 1 pipe and that ran awesome.
  15. The spark is nice and blue and I completely went through and redone the wiring harness, also once it revs up it seems to run better.
  16. This is why I'm stumped, its running very rich, smokes a lot and the plug is wet when I pull it.
  17. Okay I have a single 35mm kehin pwk. This thing smokes a lot! runs very rich. I currently have a 178 main, 2nd clip down on a dek needle, and a 35 pilot jet! It has an open air box, with dmc pipes with the 2 into one silencer. Adlai has boyeson dual stage power reeds. The thing won't idle, and fouls plugs, the mid rage and top end RPMs run fairly well but it's the lower RPMs that run very rich. I also can't get anything lower than a 35 pilot from the dealer. it also has a boyeson float bowl.
  18. single carb set up is great! You dont really need that much topend for woods racing. Plus the single is so much easier to jet!! The stock carbs are the crappiest carbs made. When ever i'd get them wet they would rev to the moon.
  19. wow it seems there are a lot more members judging by your member numbers. I havent posted on here since i got rid of my old banshee.
  20. I have an 87 banshee and the throttle sticks when ever i ride in wet conditions. My old banshee did the same thing. Does anyone know a fix for this? I am almost thinking maybe it needs longer vent tubes.
  21. dual rate elka rear shock for sale. Set up for 175 pound rider. Fully adjustable. Set up for mx. very good condition. 315-247-4601
  22. I've done pretty well with my setup spanking built yfzs 450rs and even the new quadracer 450. I have a mild port job with single 35 mm carb, dynoport pipe, pro design heads with 180 psi, v-force reeds, and a k&n. The thing pulls like a 250r and still screams like a banshee. The top end aint the best but it still screams and accelerates insanely. I recommend the 2 into 1 pipe and carb 100%. Its more reliable and the power is just awesome. The best thing about the carb is that its so much easier to rejet. So when you can easily rejet and have the jetting right on you will have more power in the long run than dual carbs. Plus it will make it a lot smoother, which is what you want. You dont want incredible lowend power though because if your riding it correctly you shouldnt have it low in the rpm range anyways. The main thing with banshees is throttle and clutch control. You get that down and you will do allright.
