New Cdi Box

I could not get shee to run,so after checking stator I borrowed a cdi box and now it runs. What should I buy now that I found the problem? Is a dyna box going to give any extra power or is there something else out there? what is your opinion since I have to buy something? A new oem is probably expensive! I have t-5,lighten flywheel,bored carbs,v-force reeds,mild porting for dunes, 140 compression with 19cc coolhead domes, 4 degrees timing adv. 120 race fuel , sea level,air pods,pro-lite pistons.

I have an 87' and I'm waiting on a cdi box as I type. I found it here from a member. And yes, the oem is $499, I got mine for $50(used of course). The guy was parting

out his shee. I went to the For Sale forum and found mine. Go there first, then go to Repairs forum to the word search at bottom of screen and type in cdi box. It will pull up all of the cdi topics and every-now-and-then someone will mention in there topic that they have an extra cdi for sale or other ways to find one. I have yet to have someone on this site tell me to buy any other cdi than the stock. I guess they are suggesting that our money would be better off spent on something else. If this is true, you've gotta love'em

Stock cdi's are junk. I'd spend the money and go aftermarket. But with a dyna, you got to take the timing advance out before you run it.

Stock Cdi Work fine. and are alot cheaper, Unless you like spending money on the Shee. I replace it with Stock. And spend the Money On a Bad Ass Port job.

Or tools and Do your Own.

When my stock CDI went out I got a Dyna FS, it was $240 compared to OEM for $318, and has worked perfectly. I would recommend the Dyna, but if you come across a good stock one for cheap I would consider that as well. BUT you kind of take your chances on electrical parts so I wouldn't get one from just any Joe Blow off ebay, I'd trust Minkia38 for a working used one...

87-94 have 2 4-pin round plugs

95-96 have 2 4-pin rectangular plugs

97- has a 4 pin and a 6 pin rectangular plug. This one also has an input for the parking brake switch.

 

Other than that they are basically the same.

my cdi box took a crap and after talking to some people and checking on line reviews from other people who have them i purchased one and even on the stock setting it made my shee hall a$$.what a differece. revvs to the moon i would reccomand the box to anyone and it was cheaper then stock.

An 87' and 88' cdi box are the same, so I'm told by several. I was told anything

after those yrs would not work on the 87'-88'.

This is because a couple of the four preset curves in the dyna box have the advance built in to them. Make sure you take your plate back to zero. THe dyna boxes are worth the money. Plus, you can get the software and patch cable to program your own spark maps with your laptop.
