02bansheerider Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I want to get cpi in-frame pipes but i hear they are much better on ported motors. Does anyone have cpis on non ported cylinders? Will CPI still outperform toomey t-6s on non ported engines ? Quote
erbilabuc Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 your question is basically : are cpi's better then t-6's my answer: do a search Quote
mattmans1983 Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 My opinion. CPI's are much better Quote

Hiram Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 I had my CPI's on my non ported motor before I ported it and there is a big difference after you port the motor. With the unported motor the powerband was so high up that it was almost impossible to ride and the hit when it finally did hit was enough to make you wet your pants as the front wheels point to the skyward but was quickly over. Now after porting the power band came way down to a more controlable spot but still with that hard hit that would make you wet your pants but this time it would keep on pulling and reving out to the moon. CPI's and porting are the way to go, so get the CPI's pipes now even if you can't port it now and when your ready to port your one step ahead. PS: I did my own porting using the Racelogic Templates. spoin39 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 I'm not an expert but have ridden and worked on quads for about 16yrs. so I hope no offense is taken at this, If you don't know all about how to port a 2-stroke for the powerband you want, know about port-timing, transfer ports, how intake ports flow at different RPM's let someone that has the experience and the proper tools do it for you. Most people think that if you just smooth everything out in the cylinder it is ported, not so. You can change the power band drastically by porting if you know how, i.e more bottom or more top end. Eric Gorr is a well known 2-stroke guru and when he did mine he asked me all kinds of questions about my mods, how I ride, and what I want out of it and delivered exactly what I was looking for. Get it done by a reputable builder! Quote
yama_dog_350 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Cpi's the way to go i ride um on an un-ported motor i love um to death Quote
Proquad101 Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I had been racing for awhile with my CPI pipes on my bike and a small port and polish. Then I had passion racing engine do a race port and polish, there was such a big difference. I have been racing flattrack for about 15 years and never felt a quad pull so hard, so I would say if you are not planning on getting a good port and polish job I wouldnt get CPI I would get the toomey.
