outlander1000 Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 I'm building a 4mm 421 serval and need to decide on a clutch setup. This will be mostly for trail riding so easy clutch pull and reliability are the biggest concerns. There are a lot of different lockups out there now from last time I was looking at them so I don't know what the best setup would be. I would not mind modifying my stock cover if needed. I don't want too heavy of springs because after 6 hours of trail riding with my current setup (all heavy springs) is just too much. Quote
jbooker82 Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 I run the whole direct drive setup. Lockup and 1 piece new cast cover. I like it and would do it all over again. I also just run 6 oem springs. That way I have a light clutch lever. It is a lot stiffer when the rpms are up but I usually dont use the clutch much unless I need to feather it. Quote
jbooker82 Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 As for a clutch get a clutch from FAST. Maybe he would throw in 6 new OEM springs instead of the stiff ones if your going to be running a lockup from the get go. Quote
outlander1000 Posted March 11, 2013 Author Report Posted March 11, 2013 Thanks for the info. What about billet basket or aftermarket pressure plate? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Billit basket, pancake bearing, slingshot in stock cover, stock springs, fast or driveline clutch pack. It'll get ya hooked up, yet be soft enough to ride all day. I dig the sling shots for trails because they work to keep the motor moving with the extra inertia from mass. Works like the weighted flywheels do for the GNCC guys. Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 I run a Vito's under cover sling shot lockup with 3 regular/HD springs. Works fine. I'm 99% sure you will make more power but you can just add more balls to the lockup. Quote
sprinklerman Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Also dont forget the easy stuff. New,well lubed cable, and an ASV lever. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Yeah ASV, Wertz, or any other Pro rider lever. Stay away from that Magnum easy pull. They are garbage and some won't even go together out of the box now. Quote
mhoksch Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Asv ftw Sent from my PB99400 using Tapatalk 2 Quote
outlander1000 Posted March 11, 2013 Author Report Posted March 11, 2013 I've got good frictions and steels so I will run them. I'd like to run all stock springs with the slingshot lockup if it would hold the power well. I'm not sure if a pancake bearing is needed. I've always been aware of the ball welding and never has. The banshee will probably no longer be used for the rough trails since I have a high HP 4x4. Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Get the pan cake bearing from cascade. It's cheap insurance so you won't have to split the cases because the ball/rod welded together. Quote
outlander1000 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Report Posted March 13, 2013 Got the slingshot, billet basket, pancake bearing and just waiting on rest of parts. Need to get some new domes yet. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Every bike needs a fucking pancake bearing! Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Not every bike, we still have the same ceramic ball we started with in 2005. Quote
