lilitalypimp19 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 ok got a 03 banshee, T-6's, k&n with no snorkel and 10 vents in the lid. bought a jet kit and the biggest mains it came with were 280's. my elevation is 700 above and temp will be around 60-85. got the air screws 1.5 turns out and just bought 27.5 pilots. my problem is when i first start it, it smokes and wont run with the choke on. i have to hold the throttle, but once warm it idles fine but doesnt seem to smoke at all. right now im running yamalube 32:1 with 93 octane, but will be switching to klotz 40:1 next tank. i was wondering if i am too lean or something, oh and the needles have 7 notches and im on the fourth one down. any help would be appreciated Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 27.5 pilot and 280 main sounds about right to me. have you tried idling the bike up just a little so that it will stay running on its own? Quote
lilitalypimp19 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 I'm gonna try and mess with the idle, but I wasn't sure if I should maybe try 290's and move the needle up with one of those half step washers to 3.5. Because it has great power thru 4th, but after that it seems to drop the powerband Quote
lilitalypimp19 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 Well messed around with it today and put the 27.5's in. But it still doesn't seem all that ballsy. I'm gettin fed up with this thing. Seems like everyday I'm wasting more time on it. Quote

Fullthrottle02 Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 your right there, have to be patient, i know its frustrating at times. Completely stock i was at 25/280/middle groove/air screws 1 1/4 turns out. Good luck. Quote
lilitalypimp19 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 Are your carbs in sync? tried to sync them as best as i could without that gauge thing, they both open at the same time and when i WOT and let off then both click together. Quote
GrMeyer Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 The air screw is most effective between idle through 1/8 throttle. The pilot (slow) jet is most effective between 1/8 through 1/4 throttle. The jet needle is most effective between 1/4 through 3/4 throttle. The main jet is most effective between 3/4 through wide-open throttle. Where are you having probs on the throttle at? You will need to set the main jet first, then the needle, then the air screws. Quote

GrMeyer Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 there are lot of people that run 40:1 with no probs. The reason why it will get worse is because you will be getting more fuel causing it to be rich. If your having probs in that throttle range. You need to mess with the needle and not the air-screw. Every time you pull the tops. You will need to re check the sync of the carbs. Read up on this http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html Quote
broncosbp Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 try going in further on your pilots. sounds like you are rich 1/4 to 3/4. try 1 turn out on air screw. Quote
broncosbp Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 also if u are going to 40:1 why are u trying to tune it in now. make the switch then tune it in. Quote
lilitalypimp19 Posted June 4, 2010 Author Report Posted June 4, 2010 well i am still debating on switching because this thing is already pissing me off enough. and when you say go further on the pilots maybe like 30's?? Quote

GrMeyer Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 which way should i go on the needles up or down?? Im a guy that will always go rich before I go lean moving it down on the needle will make it rich. going up to the blunt end will make it lean. Quote
