i got around to hanging new flouresent lights in my garage and after that i figured id install the new tors eliminator kit. all was going well and i was just tapping the new idle screw hole and was almost to the point to backing out of it and pop the tap broke off enough to where i couldnt get to it. and all the drill bits i have are not good enough to drill thru the tap. its a 6mm with a 75 pitch. i was soooo pissed i didnt know what to do. but my buddy luckly has a spair set laying around and hes giving them to me so now i just gotta find a tap for it. tom is sunday and not to many places are going to be open and monday is a holiday and they wont be open. man it was a good day until this.

ya a buddy of mine works at a machine shop and he was suprised that a tap broke off in a cast aluminum carb. and no i figured it was a pretty soft metal i didnt need to. but i guess that was a leason learned

Bummer man, hate that shit. Yeah gotta use WD40 or something like that with alloy. The problem you have is it will bind and with the heat actually start to weld together. Even if the tap doesn't break, when you back it out it will rip the threads you just cut.

I have removed the TORS and installed the idle kits on 5 or 6 sets of carbs, never broke a tap.

Use WD 40, put the carb in a vise...and never go more than 1/2 turn in without backing it back out till it's "smooth"...

Cheap tap or not, aluminum is very, very soft. Every 2 turns give it more oil....

I have tapped two sets of carbs without lubricant.

One time I used a drill, drill straight in back out and was done. Dont know if id recommend this to other people though

i cant get to it. me and my buddys tried hour 2 hours last night and the only way to get it out is to drill it out with a crobin bit. which i dont have. and then i need that kinda tap which i cant get also.

Don't feel bad I drilled the wrong side of my left carb. JB weld bailed my ass out. Look at it on the bright side if you can't get the tap out you have a great excuse to upgrade to bigger carbs!

Yep. Happened to me which is why I have ended up just wheeling and dealing to get 28s are just be done with it.

There I was......holes drilled and a oil dripping tap is all the way down and upon backing it out *SNAP* and I'm like WTF??????

Lodged in tighter than a Hassidic diamond merchant I had no way to get the sucker out. I bought another carb body from ClimbAnyHill who was gracious enough to sell it to me cheap and it got me going temporarily, but screw it. 28s are on there now and I couldn't be happier.

I had the Motion Pro kit. I knew I'd snap it, so I thought I was safe having my local shop do it. Nope, they snapped it too those bastards!

They took it out and everything though, some Loctite covered their ass.
