Currently Laid Off due to shortage of work, but I am apprenticing for Heavy Truck and Coach Technician :geek:

 

Hey Mark, and new stuff coming out of your stuff facility? :biggrin:

We always have new stuff coming out...........

 

The DD13 just launched into NAFTA. We are pushing some EPA10 demo units out into the field as well to see if we can put away Cummins and International before they even get started. :biggrin:

I am an auto mechanic and diesel mechanic. I work at fleet services for the city of Eugene Oregon were i work on everthing from weed eaters to fire trucks, and ambulances and everything in between. Right now i am in the middle of building 25 new cop cars were we wire in all the lights and everthing else that makes a cop car,plus it is fun to test drive them. I am glad i have a union governmet job it is pretty stalble.I did go to school for mechanics so i guess it paid off.

I engineer stuff and organize other folks that engineer stuff................. the stuff these days is heavy duty, on road, truck engines. :geek:

 

 

So are you the one i need to blame for all this trouble i am having with this regeneration crap? LOL

It depends on what kind of engine we are talking about.............. What sort of problems are you having? :confused:

 

 

O it is mostly on our Cummins engines and a few of the Cats we have. We have a ton of trucks up in Washington that never get out on the highway and run at freeway speed long enough and so because of that they will not regin and the light come on and the power drops ya its all kinds of fun. They are trying to reset the programs on the trucks now for the work we do.

I don't have anything to do with Cummins or CAT other than testing some of their stuff to compare with ours. So far we have seen that their aftertreatment controls is much more crude than ours.

 

The regen. thing is all about putting heat in the exhaust, not necessarily highway speed. If you are putting a bunch of load on the engine at 35mph for a length of time, you will be able to get it regen.'d.

This is very true. The problem we are having is that for most of our trucks they will idle for 80% of their life. They spend most of their time under the power lines with a guy up in the air working out of the bucket. What engines do you guys build? I hear cat is getting out of the on raod engines for the most part in the big trucks.

Main problem right there. Regen needs to have the engine worked hard and build heat...which idling will not do at all. Go out and haul on the engines once and awhile to get things burning. And yea usually when trucks go into Regen mode you loose power. Few people that drive Volvo's recommend pulling over once the light warns you Regen is about to start. This way you can sit on the side of the road/truck stop and let it do it's thing. The other thing that might help out is idling up the engines while they sit there, 1200RPM or higher if need be.

 

Mark, How come you and other companies are going with SCR After Treatment, while Navi and Cummins are going for EGR Design, is one better than the other?
