  1. sounds like your too rich on top and too lean on the bottom....Run it wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop, pull the plugs..If they are black, then drop the mains 2 sizes and retest....ONce you get the mains dialed in then raise the needles one slot and go from there. Let me know if that helped...and symptoms of it..
  2. Which end of the country are you....the jetting in Cali is way different then the jettin in the East. I'm learning that now...
  3. Air jets or pilot jets??
  4. I went from 45 pilots to 42's and noticed a huge difference in response, you might want to try a smaller pilot.....
  5. Check for air leaks. Spray some wd40 around the carb boots and see if the motor revs up...that would indicate a leak....Both plugs should look exactly the same..You might want to pull the carbs and clean them thorouly w/ an air compressor...
  6. I went on the dyno yesterday, but only got one run in since my clutch would slip after 7000rpms....I have less bottom end then before even w/ the 30mm carbs...I just put a new clutch in and will be doing a lot more dynoing w/ the 4mil stroker...I'll update later this week...
  7. Just disconnect them, the little black box above the left exhaust w/ a 3-wire plug and the parking brake switch and that'll elimate any safety problems that will arrive later..
  8. My son will be 2 months old..... Can I get an extra small?? I'll take a xl for me though...make that 2...
  9. The period goes inside the paranthesis....."punctuation."
  10. make sure the equalizer tube is in place between the two carbs. (2"x 1/4"). Also, check for air leaks around the carb boots...spray some wd40 on them and see if it revs, if it does then you have a leak...I everything checks out after, then do a leakdown test and see if you have an air leak between the carbs and the exhaust, find the problem or you'll just blow the motor again.....
  11. It does blend in nicely!!! Some of the new exhaust for the street bikes are actually colored on purpose to get that appearance....the silencers are heated up on one end to get the multi color look...blue, red, gold......then the original silver...
  12. The larger pilot is not the answer, you have another problem...Did you put the slides in backwards?? cutaway facing the air box....the motor is an air pump, it can't rev unless it can get the air...w/o air, how can it rev???
  13. PTR mids, no doubt, hands down the best bottom end pipe you can get, (exept the 2 in 1 pipe) the power comes on smooth and has way less tire spin, but pulls hard and response is instant...
  14. You never know, I ran 162 mains in my 34mm carbs w/ the stock cylinders, but now I have a 4mil stroker and run smaller jets in the 28mm carbs....When I did the dyno testing last year, I had 300 mains in the stock carbs and 330 mains in the ported stock carbs......It doesn't sound right, but you have a totally different motor that doesn't rev as high either, its built on torque not hp......I'm dynoing tomorrow w/ my stock carbs and 4mil stroker as well as some 30mm keihins so I'll know more tomorow...
  15. Awesome, I love mine.....and you'll NEVER burn you legs....
  16. 420 mains,,,,,sounds like your ready for larger carbs.....
  17. I'd start w/ 330-350 mains depending on area, stock pilots, needles in the 4th clip from the blunt end, and adjust the needles....Ben is right about the lid, if you can take it off, makes a huge difference...let us know how you make out...
  18. I don't think its pilots or needles....Sounds to me that its the mains...The details you gave us don't tell us squat...What kind of mods do you have? Pipes? Air box mods? Lid on? Filter? Any other mods to the quad? Reeds? DETAILS!!!! Does it sputter or just hesitate? At wide open throttle (wot) or just off idle? We need to know this. W/o it, we can't help you...
  19. Try syncing the carbs, its makes a big difference.
  20. .............Idle is too high because its lean???......Leanness doesn't cause a high idle...Your slides aren't dropping all the way and something is holding them up. Make sure you have slack in the throttle cable by the handlebars, and the idle screws are not holding them up...Putting a larger pilot to slow down the idle will only make it run richer than it wants to be, like pulling the choke, why would you want to......
  21. 240-250mains and adjust the air screws to throttle response
  22. maybe you have a broken strand close to the perch so when you pull it, it grabs the perch......shouldn't be very hard to find..you almost answer your own question...
  23. There is one thing for sure, I had to go down 4 jet sizes when I got home from Dumont.....I live 1 mile from the ocean, so I know I'm at sea level...Dumont has more air density then Maine for some reason, so if anyone is traveling to Dumont, then your jetting may be off compared to home.....
  24. Rod, he's looking for Keihin 28 suggestions.... Try a 160 mains, 40 pilots, and go from there....Let me know what symptoms you have after....
  25. Everyone has this one.....play w/ the needles and find the sweet spot...You have 5 clip positions, try all 5 and find the best one..then dial in the mains and air screws...
