  1. If you want a real accurate test, warm the engine up for a few minutes, then do a compression check. You'll be suprised how much more you'll get on the gauge. I get around 125 cold and 140 once its warmed up
  2. Same goes for big downhills.I try to kick it into neutral vs clutching it all the way down some of the steep, slow hills. Its not like theres any engine brake effect anyways
  3. Setting the reed tension on the low setting will greatly reduce reed life.I got about 25 hours on a set of deltas on high tension(basically a whole season for me)vs about 10 hours on the low setting. I found that carbon fiber reeds have absolutely no advantage over regular fiberglass type reeds. They don't seem to last any longer than conventional reeds and seem to run worse when there worn out Aside from that the V-force cage design works well.It really helps the shee on the low-end.I wouldn't run any other reed cage in any of my machines. The low and mid gains are seat of the pants noticeable.I just wish the replacements were cheaper.
  4. It will on reed life.On the high setting I get about a season (30 hours)on reeds,on the low setting I had a set last only 3 months(12 hours) Those carbon fiber reeds don't last any longer than fiberglass ones IMO.I just wish I waited for V-Force 3.
  5. Dragway 42 on route 42 in West salem Ohio.Take 71 S to route 301.Go right on 301,then turn left on route 42.The track is a few miles down the road on the right, you won't miss it. Wednesday night is trophy night,we were getiing about 10 quads and they put us in with the bike class.
  6. I run PC pipes with a vented airbox lid,V-force reeds, milled head and+4 timing. With only 4 1" vents and a foam filter,I need only 310 mains 3rd clip and 27.5 pilots 1 turn out @700 ft. The jetting is dead on.Pulls like a monster from the bottom to the top.Plug is textbook I was beating piped/open airbox Raptors by the hair on my chinny chin chin.We were all spanking the predators, and in a short field,a 400 ex can hang on for 3 gears, but 6th,thats terrible. Good tires and the right line is the key on a shee.I'll work a field before I race it,making sure I note where the best traction and surface is all over it.I have ruled riding pits on days with this technique. Your weight is a disadvantage,it can only be made up with more power(or a diet)the choice is yours. I'm not a fan of 2nd gear holeshots, very hard on clutch, tranny and crank. Instead,I'll get the tires to strike in first gear, short shift into second and pin the throttle, you'll still get a great holeshot.A second gear launch gives the ultimate holeshot but my holeshot does well enough for me.
  7. Banshees are heavy on the front end, especially with stock shocks. My works triples really lightened it up,It was a totally different quad,it took me a couple rides to get used to them. They took away some of the slideability, but it rides like a caddy compared to before and wheelies on command. If your still running a stock shock, your just beating yourself to death
  8. Or get a mounting cup($10)and tuck it behind the headlight
  9. I have an 01' and the oil comes out clear as it goes in.I change it every 2-3 hard rides.Probably more often then I should but I just because oil looks clean doesn't mean its still good, viscosity breakdown is not visible. My Cr500 on the other hand emits the same "graphite colored oil"that you are describing. After only one ride on a fresh oil change it starts to get that metallic look. Its been like that ever since I got it.Some say its from the separator plates, but who knows. After 2 years of riding the clutch is still in good shape and has alot of life left in it. I've heard other owners say the same about there 500's and none had clutch failures. I've tried different weights of oil and even tried the Honda racing oil for the 500,dooshed out the case and filled it up with the stuff.Still came out silvery. So I said F*ck it.If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
  10. Some stock exhaust systems are actually very good from the factory,Like the 400ex/Z400.Aftermarket pipes for these machines only add 2-3 horsepower.Where as a machine like the Raptor gains a minimum of about 10-11 h.p average. It all depends how detuned the engine is and how exactly they detuned it.If the manufacturers used the exhaust system to lower the power output to meet certain levels of reliability or safety, then large gains will be seen with aftermarket exhaust.
  11. I'm happy with my AT steelers.Got them direct from works build to order. They were a little softer than I liked in the hard corners, but the tech guy at works walked me through the steps to ensure my shocks were set up as ordered. He determind I needed an additional spacer per side and sent them for free. Fliping your rims will totally throw off the shock setup. It will soften the spring effect. If your going to go with steelers, you can't alter too much on the front end without negating the shocks effect.Fully adjustable shocks would be a better bet.
  12. Stock clutches with aftermarket springs has held up so far on my 01'.Put the springs in back in 01'No slip and still rips.
  13. Your streetbike also has more than 30 + horsepower.Extra reciprocating mass will eat horsepower. The banshee can't afford to give any more up. Thanks for the info Passion racing.
  14. For riding bikes there a must, but I hate them on my quad.
  15. Alba sells the plastic replacement A-arm bushings for 20 bucks,as long as the sleeves are still good, you should be able to reuse them. The bronze are a little more expensive, but there harder on the sleeves if you forget to grease them.Bronze go for 5 bucks a piece(60 bucks all together)vs plastic (20 bucks) for the kit. Neither prove superior if you neglect to grease them.
  16. I wouldn't worry about it,if you had the right of way and you t-boned him, thre gonna blame him.Just like if you were to rear-end somebody. Its always gonna be your fault for not maintaining a safe distance.
  17. Its only binding on one spot on the spring.I'll try turning the springs a bit and giving it a shot of grease,I ordered them direct from works for my weight&riding style,The guy at works said their ready to bolt on,but I'll double check the sag tommorrow. All I can say is wow,if I knew it was going to ride like this,Shocks would have been the second thing I bought after better tires and I bought new tires 3 days after I brought it home from the dealer. Thanks Duece.
  18. Just got my new triple rate steelers from works a few days ago. They make alot of noise, not quite what I'm used to.Anyone who has them probably knows what I'm talkin about. Those little aluminum spacer rings between the two top springs. Any tips on how to keep them from rattling? It looks like the rings slide up and down on the shock body as the springs actuate.Should there be some light grease on them?
  19. Check the toe-in on the front tires,My shimmy went away after I adjusted it .It was a bit off from where it should be.Cured my problem, might cure yours.
  20. I was wondering as most Banshee aficianados do about increased power vs. crankshaft seperation. As we all know, the "pressed" crankpins have reportedly worked there way loose on engines that produce alot more power over stock or are heavily abused. But what I want to know,is how many engines have you guys torn down with the pins still tight and the cranks still in phase. If a machine is strickly trail ridden vs competion use,is it neccesary to weld the crank beyond certain modifications. Also what would be the limit as far as compression and portwork? I'm sure with the numerous amount of Banshee engines being rebuilt, you have an idea of possible limits.I'm sure with the owners feedback and taking into consideration the modifications. Is it possible to recommend a maximum level before its neccessary to tru & weld. I only ask because I can't justify a major teardown with the low hours on my machine. I will definitely get it done when its time for a rebuild, but can I get away with it and how much for how long? Can you give some feedback on engines you have serviced?
  21. Bruce, your best bet would have been a 404 kit if you were looking for a stronger overall powerband with no low end power loss,I know a guy who runs a 404 with stock ports and a 2 into 1 pipe. His banshee feels more like a big bore single vs a twin. His topend hardly changed at all,but it really helped his low-end and his midrange is a monster. Since you already payed for the work and are stuck with the port job, consider going to a duel pipe setup. The 2 into 1 might be holding back a few ponies now that you let the engine breath a little better.Go with fatty or Ptr and I'm sure it will be exactly where you want it.
  22. I will be the first to admit that I sometimes give people shit, anyone thats went a few rounds with me knows that.I don't get offended very easily, especially if the attack was aimed towards me. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.I didn't think you justified the "Originality" thing so I gave my opinion on the matter.Personally,I hate the new look of the Yamahas, they all look the same to me.Thats my opinion, that doesn't mean everyone else should. I can forgive and if I can everyone else should too,but I never forget Pimp559. Remember, just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean that their right and your wrong.Theres's nothing wrong with arguing over something you believe in,but lets keep our families, ethnicity and religon out of it It wasn't that long ago when someone chose to racially attack an ethnic group and all hell broke loose.
  23. My mother is dead and if I ever find out who you are Or where you live, you will be too. There was no reason for you to go there,I never dissed your mother and wouldn't even attempt to,our mothers had nothing to do with this conversation Obviously by your remarks you are some 16 year old kid(physically or mentally) who has not seen a pussy since birth and likes to play the tough guy behind his computer. Its not hard to tell your age.You guys act all the same. Its not my or my mothers fault(god rest her soul)that you've never got laid, moved to California and turned Queer. Do yourself a favor, get out of Cali,go straight and get a piece of ass(A Womans). Then maybe you'll grow up and get some pubes. By the way,my sister doesn't mess with Queers,so you must have the wrong girl.
  24. Son of a B*tch,I just ordered new ones from works last week and I have some stock ones in VGC.Where were you last week?Could have saved me a fortune.Don't even bother to tell me what weight there set up for. Then I'll really kick myself.
  25. One of the local stealership parts guy was able to find them in their White brothers catalog. I went through hell too,I couldn't believe that with the 14 years of selling Banshees, they never ordered or stocked any pilot jets. I gave one guy alot of shit because of it,then returned with the correct ones I got from another dealership.Boy,was he embarrassed
