  1. I have V4s on my 10mm Cub...BUT, that's because i needed reeds anyway at the time of build. If i had V3's that were in good shape,I'd just keep them until they wore out. I don't see changing reeds ,for no reason, being a very good "bang for your buck" modification. I view them more as a "maintenance/ wear" item. You are looking at a couple HP either way,,,and who honestly has their bike tuned that close at any given moment. I think you are making the most of your money doing what you are doing (keeping your current reeds). When they need replacing,,, THEN you might look at trying something else.
  2. Just get the extra rental insurance. Ill bring an extra whip and duct tape. We can see how a rental car jumps the dunes.
  3. Thats the main reason i just buy them there. Last year i got stopped and sent back at the entrance gate because i had some writing on my flag....whats funny is that i ran that exact same flag back in 2001 at LS ( BHQ a.k.a RoostFest 2001 ride). Thankfully i had an extra one that was plain. Buts its no big deal though. Just buy one when you get there and youll be good.
  4. Just buy one at the shop when you go in to pay. No big deal. Just as cheap as anywhere you could buy them online.
  5. You can dune a 4mm,,and its fun, don't get me wrong. But when you dune a 10mm, you'll throw rocks at the 4mm.
  6. Lol. Good catch 2strokelove. Busted!
  7. 100hp duning? Go 10mm cub.
  8. This. Tell you friend he needs some 22" tires. It'll make all the difference in his hook up.
  9. Spell check brother,,spell check. Maybe a period or two as well......just say'n.
  10. Don't take it personally , He's just regurgitating what a certain "un-named builder" tells him. Of course a Serval isn't going to make the power a Cub will (especially top end),,,,we all get it.
  11. Run it and see. A "good" port job to me RUNS good,,,i don't care what it looks like. ( As long as its not a ring snagger, etc)
  12. BTW, just my opinion, but Ive never seen a dome come from Noss with that rough of machine marks..in fact, the ONLY time i saw a dome with that rough of machining came from,,umm,,somewhere besides Noss. But, hey, Ive been wrong plenty of times !
  13. Umm,,where did you get that nugget of info? Passion? The few talks Ive had with Noss seem to say otherwise. ( Not starting a beef between Noss and Jim, Noss never told me his designs are NOT Jims design) I'm just using some common sense reasoning here.Noss cuts domes for a HUGE amount of different builders ( to THEIR specs) and has access obviously to "their" design ideas,,not JUST Jims. So id think its fair to say that Noss has the ability to take all the different designs he's cut for other builders and decide which design theory he wants to go with. It just sounds strange to me to be able to say "Noss domes are Jims design"...sounds a little too all encompasing to me,considering how many different designs Noss handles.
  14. I thought the same thing, but its been a long time since i saw them.
  15. Rolling in Thursday late or Friday early.
  16. ^^This. The reason being (besides everything already mentioned) is that it changes the MSV of the domes (which really is what dictates a lot of what fuel you can run, along with compression RATIO),,not JUST the kicking compression.
  17. ^^^ THIS Educate yourself on what this means, how to determine it, and go from there. If you are confident enough to port your engine, this should ( actually should have already been done) be easy for you,and is necessary for a happy engine that performs well. Cranking compression just wont tell you what you need to know.
  18. Again,,,waste of money. Just stick with the stock needles and whatever mikuni jets you need.
  19. Haha, i was thinking the same thing. Glad you are happy though!
  20. Ive heard a couple people say that same thing,,,that CPI favored higher port timings and more compression,,yet if you compare a 68mm bore Serval ( a LOW port timing motor) with CPIs vs Shearers , the general consensus is that the CPI yield the better TQ curve. I know i tried CPIs and Shearer (both Small Bore inframes) on our 421 Serval and came to that same conclusion....CPIs yielded the better TQ curve, and the Shearers yielded more RPM, a little more peak power, and over-rev capability. That comparo was with an "as cast" Serval, then ported( ports not raised).
  21. Good looking bike. Let us know how it does making the transition from sand to 1/8th mile.
  22. So what might that "fact" of yours be? Because on two of the three builds i had Redline do, guess what pipe he told me would work best?.... Shearer.
  23. This post got me to thinking about excessive arm weight. I know the OP meant Grams, not Ozs,but what WOULD be considered excessive? Ive ran across a few guys running 15-20grams per arm (seems somewhat common) then some guys up into the 30+ grams per arm. At what point are you simply overloading the arms because of too light of a base pressure? ** If this needs to be moved to the "tuning " thread ,that's cool.
