  1. i was recommending the f.a.s.t. clutch kit to him cause he was saying he was on a 900 dollar budget for mods, also i run the f.a.s.t. clutch kit dont knock it till you try it.i will guarantee you its the next best thing to a lock up.not to mention theres probably alot of guys on here that are running a lock up that dont even need it.my suzuki drag bike didnt need a lock up till i put a turbo on it.in other words you dont need a lock up unless you are putting out some big horsepower numbers.my shee is around 75 hp and the f.a.s.t. clutch works very well.
  2. dude first of all im not here to go to law school.all i was doing is stating my opinion which everyone has.i read the post where oh boy was harassed and told he needed to be registered and insured or they could take his 4 wheeler.my opinion on that is i think that is bull shit.where i live in texas if you get pulled over and they run a check on your 4 wheeler and it comes back clean you go on your way and thats the way it should be.to me what really sux about this is what if your buddy or family member borrow your quad and they get pulled over and dont have the proof of insurance or it being registered,i guess your screwed right.i personally dont think a off road vehicle should have to be insured and registered but that just what i think.i believe we spend enough buying it then modding it and paying for gas and paying to ride in parks and so on.so after all of this now some of us have to be insured and be registered,so whats next are we going to have certain days or a particular time of the year we are going to be able to ride.what else is down the road for us,safety inspections where we have to take our quads somewhere to pass a safety test to be able to trail ride it.theres no telling what they will do which i think is bull shit.theres a off road park close to where i live that your quad has to have factory handlebars to ride in the park, what kind of shit is that.i spent gas money and time going there and was told i couldnt ride there cause my handlebars, long story short i didnt go back.and i also think the police should have a reason in the first place to pull you over and even check out you quad or anything else.i dont make the laws but that doesnt mean i have to agree with all of them.you said something about police messing with people that there just making sure your safe,in most cases probably 8 out of 10 they dont give a shit about you of your safety, more like showing authority.thats just another one of my opinions.anyway i could talk about this all day but im sure you have better things to do with you time as i know i do.i just though it sucked what i was reading on this post about being insured and registered and about how easily ones 4 wheeler could be taken.i wasnt trying to be schooled or wasnt trying to start no shit with anyone, and i will definatly be checking on the local laws here to see whats up.if it gets that bad here i will just ride on the 30 acres i live on and be happy with that.
  3. i dont know if there is any truth to it or not but i was told that the 08 shocks are an inch longer than the older 450 shocks and are stiffer as well.this is only what i was told from a friend.
  4. i lowered my rear with a r6 shock and an adjustable strut, lowered my front with 300ex shocks.there is several ways to lower what kind of riding are you going to be doing.ive seen guys lower front and rear with solid struts for real cheap.all depends on what your looking 4.
  5. i have a +6 on mine and i trail ride it.with a +6 your not going to moto cross it but you can trail ride at your own pace.i also found that its great for hill climbing, but its not going to handle or jump as well as a stock or a minus swinger.if i only had one 4 wheeler i wouldnt do a +6 but i have another stock wheelbase for trail riding so i wanted the +6 more for hills and drags.if you decide to get the +6 get ready to do some shock work as well.
  6. what fuel was you running breaking it in with the 17cc domes.if you where running pump gas take it back apart.17cc domes requires race fuel.also what 2cycle mix are you using and what mix ratio.
  7. dude are you stupid theres been more than one time in my life where a cop has told me somethin to not been true.thats why we have judges in case you didnt notice.so you can think its some dumb shit if you wish.and talking about ignorant its people like you that goes along with with the laws so there fewer places to ride.so i guess its the few that mess other peoples property up that makes things bad for rest of us,thats bull shit,if they have a problem with someone tearing up someones property they need to deal with that issue not make laws to control everyones life and tell you what you can and cant do.i just stated my own opinion wasnt calling anyone stupid or ignorant but you did so here we go if you want to dumb ass.
  8. thats some bullshit.seems like the only way they could take it is if it was reported stolen.past that its not any of their business i would think.i guess since you had to register it you should be able to get it tagged and drive it on the street.im sure different states have different laws, but it seems like the officer would have better things to do than harass people like look for rapist and murderers or somthin.i have also found in the past that police make up their own little rules that arent really laws.
  9. i was born in kalamazoo and lived in battle creek for several years.i live in texas now.back in the 70's when i was riding in michigan you could pretty much ride from town to town on trails.the fact of the matter is there are fewer and fewer places to ride as time goes by.even here in texas there are fewer places to ride than when i moved here in 1981.and most of the places i used to ride have gotten smaller or you cant ride there any more.where i ride most of the time is on my property or go to the local rivers and ride sand bars etc.i used to ride at fort custer in battle creek level park area years ago but i dont know if you can any more.there used to be a bunch of trails there like big tex off uldrics drive etc.havent been there in years but there used to be a bunch of places to ride.theres always silver lakes but youll have a drive a minute.seems like all the real good places to ride was in northern michigan though.i have family that lives in kalamazoo and paw paw i will check with them to see where they ride.they do sleds though for the most part.
  10. type f tranny fluid and regular antifreeze here, have had no issues for 3 years on the same build.
  11. if you dont have the cases ported it will still make a serious difference in power.i wouldnt say it would be a waste of time at all.
  12. if your planning on doing a 4mill wait to get the port work, the porting is going to be done different for a 4mill,
  13. you wouldnt by chance have a smaller picture would ya.
  14. you say fresh top end,did you bore it or just rering it.
  15. stock carburetos are cheap, get you a set off ebay and put em on,i wouldnt try to jigger rig it and take a chance on trashing your motor.
  16. also look on ebay i seen a kit there the other day where you can send your cover to them or they will sell you the kit to do it your self.
  17. i 4 got to mention after you get you shee ported you will need a clutch theres another 100 there.i recommend a clutch kit from F.A.S.T. best clutch money can buy for the price and way cheaper than a lockup set up by far.this is the clutch i run with a +6 swinger and 2nd gear hole shots has held up well.
  18. the cool head is a good choice cooler means power if your gonna run it for long periods of time.plus you can switch the domes for pump or race fuel.stroker crank and shearer pipes and all that sounds wonderful but for 900 unless your doing all the work your self isnt gonna b enough money.i say advance your timing bore your cylinders to some pro-lite pistons then port the cylinder all at the same time.the reason you want to bore and do the pistons is if you port now and later need to bore and install the pro-lites you will loose some performance from the port work, someone correct me if im wrong.a good port job will add more power than a stroker crank shearer pipes or any or the other mods.but if you had it all it would make more of a difference but remember you where talking about 900$.you can save your cash and do it all or i would just advance your timing bore pro-lites good port job get it jetted and tuned right and you will be head over hills faster than you are now, along with your cool head you already have.youll be much faster and will b able to do it all for the money your wanting to spend.oh if you decide to go with a stroker crank go with the hotrods crank and not the vito's.
  19. happened to me not long ago, they dont run well on water, get ready to pop your head off.
  20. its a preference i went from thumb to twist and back to thumb.ive been riding bikes since the 70's and am used to a twist throttle and have alot of track time with drag bikes over the years.i just feel more comfortable with the thumb throttle on the shee.a twist throttle can get you into touble quick imo.the way i look at it if the ride is getting too rough its hard to stay on the gas but keeps me out of trouble.if you want to be able to stay on the gas no matter how rough the ride gets go with the twist.one of my buddies rides with a twist and he wrecks more than everyone else i ride or have ridden with.seems like he wrecks pinned out in what ever gear he is in at the time as well.
  21. you need to figure out what kind of riding you are mostly going to be doing and you will get better suggestions for mods.if your going to get new pipes and going from fmf i would get shearer or cpi in frames.your not going to gain much with the t5s. the t5s are just a little bit better than the fmf pipes.the 35pkw's will work great for you but the jetting will be alot different than what you have now cause of the bigger carb size.about your popping and revving up prob.i think you have an air leak, also your carbs could be trashed, slides may be dragging in the carbs.i agree that the wd40 trick is a good way to find air leaks, its one of the methods i use.you may want to find the problem you have pretty quick cause every time the engine is doing what its not supposed to be doing is causing it harm.oh you asked about pilots with the jets your running i would thing 27.5's or 30's im running 310 mains and 30 pilots on stock carbs with pod filters.good luck with it,keep your progress posted.
  22. where do you ride i may go with you some time.
  23. the swingarm shop has swingarms on ebay still looked at them today.also a few others i seen on there today with swingarms.
  24. engine may be searching for air,how clean is your air filter.since you put new plugs in it i would do a compression test see where you are there.probably wouldnt be a bad idea to clean and synchronize your carbs.
