Stick with the 68 mm bore. Use Millenium, they are the best. Cost is about 200 to 250 bucks.

Let us know what oil you are using in the transmission and what mods are done to the motor. Did you replace the clutch springs also or just the plates? Mailman

Sorry about that alf44. I didn't think anyone else had base gaskets for 5 bucks. I have had to get them through Trinity for over 20 bucks each! I have a real issue with Trinity. Sorry to step on any toes here. I didn't know any vendors could scan in a "hard to find" gasket or in Trinity's case an "overpriced" one. I was just trying to help people save a little money and help them if they can't find anyone with a "hard to find" gasket for some other project. Mailman

Hey Guys, I just wanted to pass this info. onto you. I am in no way affiliated with this company but I was so blown away by their quality and low prices that I felt compelled to share. Gasket King is a company that sells....you guessed it, gaskets. Here is the cool part. They can make any gasket you need if you can send them a sample to scan into their data base. I sent them a used base gasket from my Cheetah PV cylinder and they didn't charge anything to scan it in. Prices: How does $5 bucks for a base gaket sound? How about only $1.50 for an intake gasket. They carry a few different thickness sizes as well if needed. I think they have .0135, .0185 and .029 inch thickness' in right now. They also ship via USPS so shipping is only a few bucks. Their customer service is top notch. They exceeded my expectations. Here is their email. [email protected] Mailman

I have been looking for those ball joints for a while. Rob at Lonestar just told me that Eastcoastatv carries them. He was right! Best part is that they are on ebay also. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/upper-lower-NEW-ball-joint-ROLL-DESIGN-BANSHEE-joints-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f00c37e45QQitemZ270595751493QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Mailman

Hey Jim, How many different angles are used in the diffusor cone? How many in the baffle cone? Or am I prying a little too deep?
-
You have to be very careful with the Trinity cut domes. They don't always get the angle right on the cut. Make sure you measure the thickness of the sodder on the outside edge, inside edge, and a few in between. If the angle is off, then you will see the numbers get smaller which is a convergent squish and really can cause bad things to happen with the combustion. I wouldn't drop more than .039 or .040. Good info. guys! Have any of you downshifted without the clutch being pulled in? That was the one thing that I know caused many broken trannies before the "newest" design updates.

The vforce 2's will flow more air than the 3's. Whether or not your motor will support that extra flow will determine if you will see a hp gain with v2's. I agree on the reliability issue of the v2's and I personally have taken a few motors apart where the screws were either loose or had just fallen out of the 2's. What is the goal? If you say HP and drag only then I would say run the v2's and locktite the screws. If you ride dunes, trails, etc. and want reliability then the v3's are for you. I personally run the v3's because of reliability. I am too old to be breaking down. I hope that helps, Mailman

Any updates on the "new and improved" extreme overide trans? Good, bad, or ugly......lets hear the results from people running them with the springs on the shafts and forks. Thanks, Mailman

ring gaps for higher hp engines 485 - 535
mailman replied to lt1bird's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
The Golden Rule of ring gap says that you should have about .004" per inch of bore. The 73 mm pistons would then need about .011" to .012". ( 2.87 inch diameter bore X .004 = .0115 ) The fact that the motor is high hp doesn't really come into play here except for exhaust port size. A high hp motor will usually have a larger exhaust port and therefore be more prone to ring damage. Ring gap is simply a function of piston size; larger piston means more gap needed. I would run at least .012" for a ring gap. If the gap is too small then the rings will expand when heated and have no place to go but into the exhaust port and most likely cause damage to the motor. You will lose very little by making the gap a little larger but will risk a lot if the gap is too small. I hope this helps. By the way, do yourself a favor and don't ask Trinity for motor advise. Most the time you are just speaking to a salesperson anyway who has very limited knowledge. Putting in a ring without checking gap is just playing Russian Roulette. Simply Foolish! Check out some of the posts on here about Trinity. Mailman -
Banshee wont start without fuel in carb
mailman replied to 35thLS1SS19's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Yes! This is most likely your problem. I assume you are using stock carbs. If so, then the bowls are different. Swap the bowls and the bike should fire up with the choke. The choke circuit doesn't function with the other bowl therefore the bike needs extra gas upon start up. Mailman -
Carbs leak out of the overflow
mailman replied to hillshooter421's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
It is normal. Don't worry about it. The motor shaking back and forth on a banshee causes this. Your motor vibration is worse with the "big cheetah" also. Since the carbs are not centered on the motor, (due to the fact that there are 2), amplifies this effect. If your motor only had one carb then it would be centered and would not shake as bad. I hope that makes sense. Mailman -
Bike will run great. Get it jetted properly as you would with any fuel and the av-gas will treat you right. There is a lot of bogus information on av-gas out there. I have used it for over 20 years in my 2 strokes and don't have any complaints. Mailman

It is hard to speak for someone else but I am pretty sure that Greg wants to hear from you guys directly with your broken or not broken Extreme transmissions. I bought one a few months ago and had the trans break some teeth off of 3rd gear when I downshifted without the clutch. The big issue with that trans was the input shaft needed a spring instead of a collar. It is a design flaw that Greg will achknowledge. He has been working on getting this trans to be bulletproof. He actually has my extreme trans in his kids bike right now and they are testing it and trying to get it to fail. They have had it out once and beat it up but could not get it to fail. Greg decided to put springs on the shift forks also, just like the old dunable, to help insure the "bulletproof" promise. He is still testing it this way with the spring on the input shaft and the springs on the forks and wants to make it right. My stories could fill pages but I don't see the point in that. Greg is trying to do the right thing. I believe he sold around 50 extreme trannies before I got mine. That means that there are 50 failures waiting to happen. Well, less than that, since some others have already failed. I would not run this trans until he puts the spring on the input shaft. I only got about 10 minutes on my trans before it blew up. I don't know anything about the clip issue but I know he is working on a double clip design is that helps. I obviously wouldn't run the trans if a clip was missing. It can be a little tough to get through but call WCR, and let them know what you have and get Greg's input on what you should do. I feel your pain. It can get pretty frustrating. I will finally get to ride again this coming weekend at Glamis. My bike has been down for quite some time. Greg actually sent me an old style dunable to use until the extreme trans get figured out. I hope this helps, Mailman

Jerry Hall is the man! Just give him a call and talk to him. Ask him if you can be there when he dynoes your bike. You will learn more in that one session then you have in the past 10 years. Seriously, he is a wealth of knowledge. Good Luck, Mailman

Engine builder in Phoenix area?
mailman replied to bansheevirgin's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
X2 on Jerry Hall. His number is 623-931-8132 His 350 cc port job makes 70+ hp with stock carbs and stock airbox. I have one on my bench that I ran for 2+ years with no issues. I put a ton of hours on the motor duning and hillshooting and it never skipped a beat. I also have the dyno sheets to back it up. He is one of the few people that truely understands a motor. He will make you a very fast motor with no reliability issues at all. His resume is outstanding!.....engineering degree, worked for the factory Kawasaki mx race team, built the fastest 2-stroke jet ski motors in the world, etc. etc. This guy eats, drinks, and sleeps while thinking about motors. He is the best 2-stroke motor guy you will find. I have been going to him for over 20 years. Many of the shops don't tell you this but they use him for machine work. He is in business because he loves motors not because he wants your money. If you think your builder is really good, then ask him if he is part of the "private 2-stroke motor builders" website. It is an invitation only site that is made up of the best builders in the world. Good luck with the build, Mailman -
