During the Summer at Silver Lake dunes when I go they usually have a small probe that measures .025" in diameter that is inserted into the screen. If it goes thru then they are no good. Window screen is larger than .025", that's why it doesn't work. Plus the screen in spark arrestors is much heavier guage than window screen. I'm sure you could find some screen under the .025" range with an internet search and make some.

I've thought about that and don't think it will matter much. If it doesn't cause me to cartwheel over a dune then I should be ok. I'm more concerned about the +4 swingarm. Maybe it should be an attempt posted on youtube  .

Well that's good to know. It looked like to me the manual was referencing the spade terminal to plug cap. Guess I'll have to check again.
-
It's not exactly centered but close. Just aligned the front sprocket with rear and that's where it sits. You can't offset it to one side or the other because of the rear sprocket unless you fab some other stuff up to make it work. I used a jack to hold the motor in place along with some wood shims to get it where I wanted it. Then I made motor mounts to fit.

No, it's Michigan near Detroit area

I didn't seem to be getting any spark in the new build so I started checking the ohms of the stator and coil. Stator checked ok. Primary Coil checked ok but secondary part of coil (spade terminal to spark plug) had nothing, not even a blip of ohms on the meter. Acted just like there was no circuit at all. Everything worked fine when I disassembled a few months ago so just find it odd and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this.

If this is legit then I can't believe this. I'm too broke to buy it though. http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcy/1154728908.html

That radiator is another concern. It has the fan plus I'll be running engine ice. It's really not much smaller than a banshees but my motor is bigger too. If not then I'll have to run alot of inline coolers or something.
-
Hopefully better than the banshee's since I have a nice scar on my leg from riding last year with shorts. The larger diameter section of pipe should lie just in front of my leg. Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I can fire this thing up next weekend.

I looked into RDZ initially but there is no way I'm going to pay the price for them to custom make pipes. I'm a cheap ass. I think the starting price was $700. If I have the pipe building software it shouldn't be too bad.
-
Damn! I thought it was a sealed unit. I'll be sure to address that. Thanks.

Because that is what I had. I didn't want to get a set of CPI or other and hack them up without knowing how it will go. The next ones I will be building myself and start at the cylinder and go from there so they fit like a glove. These pipes will be restricting me by probably 5hp or more.

Just some more updated pictures. I tried to get the pipes mocked up so I can TIG weld them this up coming weekend. They are not the prettiest for sure (personally I think they are shit) but they will need to get me by until later in the year when I put forth the effort to make some from scratch. I would have done it this time if I would have known how much a pain the ass they would have been. It has been hell trying to get enough room to mount everything. I had the exhaust and silencers coming out the rear which interfered with the intake filters (fixed), the rear shock which also obstructed the filters (fixed), the battery location which I put just in front of the radiator (hope it doesn't interfere with cooling), and now the power valve servo which I think I found a place to mount it. Very cramped. I hope to finish up the wiring next weekend. If this thing runs without any major problems I'll shit myself. Yea, I know the pro circuits aren't going to fit. They won't fit with the banshee motor and YFZ450 chassis either, but they will. Currently, they're in 4 pieces and I'm fitting them to the chassis. It is going to be 50/50 dunes and trails. The dunes is the only place it will see high R's for any length of time. I was told that drag pipes would give me about 6-7 more HP compared to the PC's. We'll see. I had the pipes already from my banshee. The next ones' I'll make myself. Just didn't have time for this build right now. I'm at sea level for elevation. He said my final jetting would be about 52.5 pilot, 158-160 main also. I'll make final adjustments at the dyno.

I don't have any use for these anymore. I bought them from a member on here but never used them. Still in great condition. Just regular pro design domes. I'll check back here through out the day but will be out for the weekend. $25 plus ride
-
I'm in the same situation but with a few more mods (see in sig) and a pretty aggressive port job. I was told from the engine builder to run 160 mains and about a 52 pilot in my 35mm PWK's. It may be a little more or a little less but would like to see what others might think? Don't mean to hi jack the thread.

Too broke now to buy new so I've cut the fronts and will cut the rear. Not sure on paint color exactly but going with some sort of silver with metallic. I'll figure it out when I'm at the paint shop looking through their books.

As a matter of fact I remembered to bring the camera to work today. Last weekend was a bitch in that Murphy's law was affecting everything I did. I had the topend together losely and had to take it apart because a piece of the power valve was broken and glue wasn't going to hold. Now I have to machine an end to fix it...blah....blah.... I'm sure I am going to have an ass load of problems once everything is together and it will take a couple trips to get everything ironed out. I just hope nothing too severe. Anyway, some new pics. Front Rear Side Other side Cylinders I'm still pissed about my powder coating job in that I didn't get great coverage in certain areas. It won't really be seen but still dissapointed. Some advice for others that may want to go into this much detail with a project like this, either don't do it or give yourself ALOT MORE TIME. It's riding season and I'm still going to be working on this thing for another 3-4 weeks. I've got well over 150 hours into this since the new year.

Just an FYI. Seen it as I was browsing. Located in Flint, MI. http://detroit.craigslist.org/rvs/1119408549.html

Took a while but they sure do look good. Estimated HP should be around 74-75 with procircuit pipes that I'll be running and lots of torque. Passion did the porting. Can't wait to get this thing breathing fire. Getting closer to finishing up the build. Zeeltronic stuff is shipping today (finally) and just have to powder coat a few more parts. Anyway, check out the porting pics. Before Before After After After-New transfers Powervalve Open Powervalve Closed I went with Jim's 12 port, adding the two extra intake transfers plus the two near the rear cylinder studs. This ought to be a fun ride!

I'll second the later in the day calls. The last few times I've called later in the day and he has answered every time. I know he's busy. He has his own hobbies also. I've been patient and haven't been too fussy about it. So far I've only heard good things about his work and from talking with him I'm sure it will be worth it.
-
Jim is sometimes difficult to get a hold of. I went two weeks without being able to contact him. Thats with leaving two messages and no return calls. I'm still waiting on my RZ cylinders. Hes had them since the end of February. I'm hoping he will get them out this week. It's bad enough I'm over 2 weeks behind schedule on my build
-
I know this is a banshee forum but thought I'd give it a shot. If anyone happens to have one I'd sure like to get it.
-
It depends how difficult you want to make it and how much $$ you want to spend. If you're just going to throw a banshee motor in the YFZ then it's not too difficult. You just have to make front and rear mounts, line up the sprockets, and do something with the exhaust which I haven't got to yet. I'm just going to modify my procircuits to fit. I started this project the last week of December and have worked on it almost every weekend since plus several nights after work. I'm well over 100 hours and $3K into this. I rebuilt "everything" though. Every last nut and bolt was removed from this. From the motor to the calipers. Figured I'd do it right the first time. A lot of parts are used. No sense in buying new when I can make used look better than new.

I get my powder from Columbia Coatings and they call it Burnt Candy Translucent Orange. You put a chrome coat down first then the color and then I used clear over the top. The arms are just YFZ arms that I polished along with several other parts. It's really starting to look good. I still have to add a chain guide to the swing arm so I had to put the motor in so I can get things lined up. Had to put the side covers on to see what it will look like. Still waiting on Passion Racing to get my RZ cylinders back.
