No nothing was up graded but just brand new parts like a hot rods trued and welded crank, New flywheel, new ricky stator with adjustible timing plate. New pistons, New gaskets. The timing has not been advanced because the guy I bought it from never advanced it and I wont feel like messing with it.

The correct way to do a plug chop 1. would be to warm your bike up to operating temps. 2. Switch to brand new plugs. 3. Rip thru the gears hold it WOT for few seconds or so in 5th and 6th. 4. Pull the clutch in kill the motor and coast to a stop. 5. Put old plugs in. Take the bike back and do the chop. This will give you a more accurate reading rather then riding around for 2 to 4 hours and then doing a chop.

Im going to check the flywheel anyways when I run across a tool. Carbs are thoroughly cleaned used a thin piece of wire to make shure there was nothing pluging them up. Jets are also the same 25 pilot 300 main. The plugs are brand new bought them a couple days ago thinking that might be the problem. I had the guy at napa auto parts make shure the ngk plugs where gapped right and they were. Carbs are in sync. I will take a peek down the ports and see if the rings are good but they should still be good this motor was completely rebuilt from bottom up not even 5 tanks thru it.

Sounds good man. I tried everything and cannot figure this out. Only thing left to inspect is the reeds/cages and the flywheel gap you had mentioned. Im going to check out the reeds tomorrow. Whenever your not busy and get some time on your hands let me know.
-
yea... I think I will check them out tomorrow. I was told to spray carb cleaner around the intake, reeds, reed sapcers, lower base of cylinders, base of head and listen for it to bog down and that would tell me I have a leak somewhere. I did and it did not bog down so I hope that it is the reed on the right side or the flywheel thing.

Switched plug caps right on to left, left onto right and still makes the noise out the right pipe. I am fresh out of Ideas the only thing I am going to do next when I get the tool is measure the pickup gap on the flywheel because I was told this could be the problem also. Do you think bumping up the piolot to a 27.5 and main up to a 310 might be the problem. Bike starts 1 kick w/out useing the choke. If I cannot figure this out then I will have my cousin take a stab at it when he gets back from flordia in about 3 weeks ::

i think you should figure out wheather its backfiring or "popping" when you figure out what its doing then ask for help. im sorry do be an a$$ but you have got every one around here confused on what its doing. everybody has tried to help and tell you something diffrent, you may have made the problem worse if your messing around with stuff that you dont know what it dose, if its just a popping sound then dont worry about it. if its a backfire then tell us its a backfire we can steer you in the right direction. Ok took the carbs apart today and found out that I have a 25 pilot jet and a 300 main jet. Cleaned the carbs real good and tightend up all the intake bolts a lil more to make sure they are not leaking after I put in all new intake gaskets. Also cleaned all the jets out using a piece of thin wire. Started it back up and I am having the same problem as before. Also turned the air screws in all the way and then backed each one out 1 1/2 to 2 turns on each carb. Obviously 04fireshee is trying to be a smart ass and give me a hard time. It is hard to explain if it is a backfire or a loud pop because obviously a back fire is going to be a loud pop. All I know is that when I put my hand over the right silencer for a second the left silencer sounds good no loud pop or backfire or whatever the hell you wanna call it. When I put my hand over the left for a second the right makes the loud pop or backfires whatever makes you happy you pick backfire or loud pop. I dont see where in the thread that makes you think people are confused as to what I am explaining to them. Seeing as you only have 4 posts maybe it is you that is confused . If you are going to post smart ass remarks do not post in my thread I would prefer someone with a little more knowledge on the situation that I am having kinda like the people that where giving me suggestions before you chimed in. dajogejr you have anyother ideas as to why this is happening?

Check craigslist.com In the Michigan detroit metro area under motorcycles. I see a ton of them in there all the time for around what you are looking to spend

No I dont think im blowing this out of proportion. I think I would know when something is not sounding right and this is not sounding right. When that bit*h sounds like a fu*kin firecracker blowing up behind you you cant tell me thats how aftermarket pipes are suppose to sound and it only seems to come from the right pipe left pipe sounds normal like a banshee should IMO . Thanks for your helpful tip but what you said was already mentioned. Its cool thow im not going to let it bother me the bike is a 96 and could use some new parts so eventually I will solve the problem. Its just going to take me a little time.

Turning the air screw did not help.
-
I cant seem to find Lrds website. I found a couple that sell one specific set of pipes but I have the adjustible ones. I cant use any O ring from a different company? Seems to me like any Pipe O ring would fit because all the pipes have to fit the same on the ehaust ports.
-
No I totaly forgot that he had mentioned the air screw. I am going to try that tomorrow and it that doesnt work I am going to try to take apart the carbs. Also this may sound like a extremely dumb question but is there some kind of seal or O ring type thing for the pipes that should go on the exhaust part of the cylinders where the exhaust comes out and connects to the pipe. Just asking because I have seen a couple people mention something about pipe seals or sum shit like that in some posts when I was using the search mode trying to gather as much info as I can on this subject. Seems like a lot of people had this problem once before but it never said how they solved it.

Just switched the plugs no luck still popping. I have no clue what to do. Im getting too pist off maybe I need to chill out and come back to it in a few weeks before I blow this bish up.
-
Sothe gap I would be measuring would be the little piece between the metal arm thing on the bottom of the plug and the flint looking thing in the center of the plug if this is the case I did drop one of the plugs and the metal bent to the flint looking thing. I bent it back with some pliers. I guess I will go out and get some new plugs and see if this still pops. Also my plugs ars B8ES is there a difference between BR8ES and the ones i have now
-
this may sound dumb but this is the first time I have ever herd about spark plug gaps :: . So I would not know how to measure and gap the plugs could explain how I go about doing it could this be causing the popping sound. I seacrhed using the search mode but did not find too much info on how to gap plugs or if it was the cause of my situation.
-
The plugs are brand new only have about 2 starts on them meaning I only started the motor 2 times since I bought them. I have no clue what you mean by gapped right all I did was take the plugs and put them in the motor.
-
How would I make it richer at idle
-
So I have been trying to figure out the cause of this. I have been reading as much as I could find on the topic. I also herd that the coil or caps could cause it to making a popping sound. When I test the coil what should it measure on the ohm meter? This is pissing me off because I want to ride this bish and the weather is finally starting to get nice here in michigan and I dont want to puck something up ::
-
Its popping just sitting at idle. When I took it for the short run I could not here it popping like it does at idle, it was just louder and sounded different than the ones people put in the video section. I know different bikes are going to sound kinda different but mine sounds no were near what they sound like. I just got my camera back from kadak so if you want I could record a clip of it ideling so you can get a better idea of what im talking about. Im thinking the silencers need to be repacked or this is a jetting issue. I dont see how it could be a jetting issue thow because it idles fine. When I figure out how to take apart the carbs to get to the jets I will let you know whats in there. Does it say what they are on them?
-
If you are asking if I have done a plug chop I have not. Just put the motor in the frame and the carrier bearings were so bad that I had to much play in the axle. I took it down the street just to make sure it had good shift and stuff like that and slowly got it up to third and then put it up. Right now im replacing the carrier bearings. My mods are LRD pipes with toomey silencers these are what came with my roller. I have K&N clamp ons I dont know what jetting is in the carbs now The pipe and stinger subes are kinda loose where the meet up but I dont see any black soot.
