  1. Wow, you went way back to find this one.
  2. Pros- It's fast as hell! Cons- Hope you don't mind trying to jet 2 carbs. Also, somebody had a good FAQ on here about what to look for when buying a used bike. I'll see if I can dig it up. Welcome to the HQ!
  3. People in the past have reported it suckin in the tranny fluid. I'm thinking it's gotta be somehwre in the carbs, because everything was fine before I put the aibox in, and went to smaller jets. The carbs drive me fucking crazy on these bikes. I just can never fucking get them setup right. I have read the FAQ, and the Clymers about a million times, and I never had a problem with a single carb on any of my other bikes, but these things are just such a bitch. I just can't see it being the carbs because they are synched as far as I can tell, and they clean as new. If anyone knows whether a compression test will identify a bad crank seal, hit me up. Or else I think I'll be leakdown testing it shortly. I really thought about bringing this back to the stealership earlier today, but I hate dealing with their shit, and high ass prices, but hey, know I know why they charge so much to work on themn, it's really a pain in the ass!
  4. The motor will be in my 2001 shortly, I ran it for about 4 hours of hard trails like this, which is by no means a good idea. My symptoms were a little bit different, so I started a new thread, so I don't crap in yours too. The stealership will want about 600 in labor alone to do crank seals, I suspect that my crank seals are gone.
  5. Yes they are. The YFZ arms are a little longer than stock, but the additional levage of the longer arms should make them sit about where you want them on the +2+1s as long as you have them valed and djusted right.
  6. Cool man thanks for the info. I'm gonna try to find 2 matching jets from the same kit. I didn't think they would be this far off, but hey, who knows. I suspected it was the right side crank seal, because that's the only kind of leak that would make it run rich, but the tranny oil hasn't dropped. The motor is stock. I grabbed a couple of pics, to maybe try to help, also, the right side looks almost lean now, there is hardly any smoke. On the right side, there is an ok amount of smoke at idle, but if I rev it, and let off, smoke just purs out, like a fog machine. Here's some pics: At idle: While revving, about mid way: I'm lost on this one, aside from the mains being from different kits, everything else seems to be setup right on the carbs, I checked idle screws and both are 2.25 turns out, the pilot screws are 1.25 turns out, with 25 pilots. As always, thanks guys!
  7. That's what I figured about the leakdown test. I'm kinda fucked up on the pilots and jets, so I'm gonna go back and look over the carbs. The pilots were both stamped 35, and the mains were both stamped 260, but one main came from my old carbs, and one main came from a jet kit. Both pilots came from my old set of carbs. One would think they would be accurate, but who knows. I'm gonna try to check the idle too, that might do the trick. Thanks for the info, Still wondering though if the crank seals would affect a compression test? I think they would.
  8. Shit, another 4runner owner on the HQ. I would try yotatech.com Those guys are super helpful, they helped me out a shitload with my 3rd gen. They are awesome over there, you just can't curse or they'll ban you. :baseball_bat: I don;t know too too much about the 22re other then it's a fuel injected 2.2L I4. You should have a timing belt I beleive, don't think they had timing chains. Check to see what condition the timing belt is in. If it's frayed, etc. It might be slipping. Also, your injectors might be dirty, there is a slew of things that could cause this problem. Try the first gen section at yotatech, they would know a lot more then I would. Good luck bro, By the way, what size tires you pushin'?
  9. Ok, on my 2001, the right side is running extremely rich, smoke is way to thick. The carbs are setup perfect,a nd synched, 260 mains, 25 pilots, needle on middle clip, air screws 1.25 turns out, jetted for FMF Gnarlies, airbox w/lid at 70* and 0 feet. Stock cylinders and head. TORS was removed, and new idle screws were tapped. I thought it might be crank seals, since I found a lot of people with the same problems. Only problem is, after letting it run for about an hour, mostly at idle, and a little revving, there was no change in the tranny fluid. I compression tested it, and both cylinders and they both made 125 PSI give or take 1 or 2 PSI. So my first question would be, if a crank seal was shot, wouldnt it compression test way too low? I also tried to switch the coils from side to side, and let it run for aprox. 15min. No change, tried new plugs also, Im running BR8EGs, both sides. The carbs are clean, and there was new gas just put into it. I think it might be a very slow crank leak, and the compression test might be "missing" it. My next stop will be a leakdown test, unless I missed something. Any info would be greatly appreciated. As always, I owe you guys a lot for all the help so far.
  10. I agree. I have been waiting to hear more discussions about the 2-1 setups because I ride mostly trails and woods/ I have heard a lot of mixed reviews, seems like people either love it or hate it. I think it's one of those things that you won't know if you'll like it until you try it. I'm waiting until I have some loot to blow.
  11. Yeah, damn man, that sucks, I wish you the best if you were hurt, and even if you werent, that sounds like something that would fuck me up mentally. Care to share the story? At least for the sake of others who might do the same thing.
  12. Wow! And I thought my shit was bad. I think 1800 is a little steep too. WTF did you hit?
  13. Sorry I can't be of any help, but I'm experiencing a similar problem with my bike. The jetting is perfect, but my right side smokes to high hell, and has oil coming out of the pipe, wheras the left side doesnt smoke much at all. Same situation, it ran on spot, never fouled a plug, but the smoke was noticeably different. The bike is totaled now, but I'd still like to know what's wrong with it in case I fix it up.
  14. I had SSTs on my 2002, and they were decnt. FMFs are usally trail pipes, and the SSTs hit a little later in the powerband which I wasn't crazy about. I like the Gnarleys beter for trails, they hit nice and low, the SSTs arent bad though, I think FMF tried to gear them towards more open trails.
  15. Ok, 2 accidents in 2 weeks, and I'm just besides myself. I have enevr wrecked a bike in my 10 years of riding, just minor shit, little fender benders and whatnot, but this weekend took the cake. Me and some buddies went out to PA to ride, and we were havin' a blast. The bike ran great, very quick, and was puttin' 4 strokes to shame. Towards the end of the day we ran a few hill shoots. These hills were damn near vertical at the top, but so what, I ran the same one 3 times, and made it fine. My buddy bogged out a raptor, almost flipped, but clutched it, and slid back down safely. I ran the next shot, and I was about 3 feet away on a near verticle section when the bike came over backwards on me. The shee cartwheeled about 50 feet back down, and I tumbled with it. I managed to get out of it's way, but I got pretty banged up, nothing major thankfully. I'm going to try to sell my R1 tomorrow, and I'm thinking about selling the Banshees, I'm not sure yet, but I'm just really really bummed out about this. My buddy has pictures of the actual accident, which I'll post later. Here is one I snapped after getting home a few hours ago. Pretty sure the frame is bent, looks fucked. Not looking for any kind of sympathy, and please don't bash me either, just wanted to tell my story, and as you know, shit can happen, figured all you ruberneckers wouldnt mind the pics either, I always stop and gawk at wrecked shit too.
  16. All right, I'm really at a fuckin' loss! Jet needles are on the 3rd clip up, both are the same, plug chos looks on spot on the right cylinder, and "decent" on the left. I guess it must be an air leak? The bike starts with one easy kick, I can pretty much start it with my hand that's how easy it is. I'm lost, any infow ould be greatly appreciated. There is a pretty decent smoke difference too.
  17. let's see some pics
  18. Ok, so I pretty much was ready to go away this weekend up until a few minutes ago. Soething just doesnt seem right on my bike. From the back, the right exhaust has wayy more smoke then the left one. As a matter of fact, there is no visible smoke coming from the left side throughout the RPMs. And the right side basicaly had oil dripping out after only a few minutes. I had the carbs apart last week, and this is the first time I started it since. Both have 260 mains, 25 pilots, air screws 1.25 turns out, and the idle is set perfect. This setup worked perfct for me for a long time, at sea level and 60* temps. I also cleaned both last time I took it apart. The mods are in my sig under the 2002 banshee. I do not know what I did, if one carb has some carb cleaner left that's burning off, or if I put too much oil on my filter and it only got through 1 carb. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm leaving at 6pm today for Pennsy. Thanks!
  19. Hmm, looks familiar. Mine's not quite that bad, but I would think if I could straighten mine, that that would be doable also. I do a lot of plmbing and gas work, so I have 10 foot sections of 1 1/2" steel gas pipe here, this is the best stuff for cheaters bars and stuff. I was going to slip like an 8 foot section over the end of the subframe, and try to torque it up, or else the bottle jack sounded good too. I might give it a quick shot today, I leave at 6pm, but I have to stop into work and shit.
  20. Everyone else, thanks for the info, :yelrotflmao: I actually did think about cjopping it off and building a new one, but I would have to trick someone here into doing that, and I don't want another project. I like the bottle jack idea. This is probably going to be a next weekend project, so I'll let you know what comes of this.
  21. I don't think anything on a banshee is revere threads. When I did my tie rods I rmemebr them just matching up with the stock ball joints, and getting them in. Sounds to me like your thread is screwed up or something.
  22. Hmm, cool shit dude, I hadnt though of that. I have an oxy acetaline torch that I use when I do plumbing shit. I'm not sure if that burns hot enough, you think it will ruin the shitty factory powdercoat? I'll probably ride it like this for the weekend, it handles fine on the streets, but I'm gonna fix it once I get back. Any other ideas?
  23. Ok, so I'm supposed to be going away tomorrow, and my elbow is feeling better, so I figured I'd change out the stem, and the plastics on my 02, since my little incident last week. As soon as I dropped the trailer door, I noticed that the back fenders were way way off, and the exhausts looked fucked up too. So I pulled everything off, and I got 2 measurements on the end of the subframe, one at 34 1/2" and one at 35 1/2". It is definately bent. I was wondering, should I just try to beat on them with a hammer, and get it back in spec, or is it basically useless. I was also thinking about slipping a long length of steel pipe over the end and trying to torque it down. It looks like shit from the back with the plastics on, and I don't want to keep it like that. So I guess my question is: Can I make it right, or should I just say fawk it? If it can be made right, how would you suggest going about that? (I don't have any fab skills, so cutting it off and building a new one is not an option) Does it even matter other then appearence purposes? (I do try to take good care of my shit, and I do plan on selling this bike in the coming months, so I would like it to look good, and be safe)
  24. Thanks for the replies. I don't take the clutch cover off often. I just pulled my 01 the other day, I've actaully never done a clutch a Banshee, I had a lexan cover on my yz250, and it just gave me piece of mind knowing that the thing wasnt running bone dry, and iy was easier to check the quality of the oil. I do change the oil once a season, and I've enevr had a problem. I'll probably do a lockup on my 01, and just buy the cover, kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks,
  25. BigRed used to run +2+1 with YFZ shocks, and a buddy of mine did also. It rode awesome, and that's the setup I'm going to put on my 2002. I wound up picking up some used LSRs, I've heard too many bad things about full flight, and wicked, although I have never seen them in person, only going by hearsay. The YFZ shocks work really well with +2+1s, have Shane on here re-valve them for you, and you'll be straight!
