  1. Not to speak for anyone else, but I have lost cast pistons in many engines regardless of the horsepower level. Structural integrity of the piston really comes into question when you are talking about high rpm engines or engines with high cylinder pressures. In regards to Pro-X, I will gladly say that for a Banshee, they are the best cast piston made. My only problem with Pro-X as a company is that their quality control is sub-par. I have had several of their pistons with the same part number measure up to 50 microns different from each other. I am by no means a high volume user of Pro-X pistons, so my experiences may have just been unfortuanted coincidences.
  2. I reccomend a Dyna unit. I do not have any experience with the other units though. Your max rpm is controlled by your pipes, not the ignition, though.
  3. If you use an automotive style pickle fork tool for tie rod end to put some load on the joint while you try to loosen the nut you should be able to get it off fairly easily. Id on't think one of those pickle forks would cost you more than $20 at an auto parts store.
  4. I agree 100%
  5. I like the top shirt. Have you considered F.A.S.T. logo edible panties?
  6. I think rider talent and airing down the tires probably plays a small role in the success of a utility quad in the dunes.
  7. The OR boys are usually on 400EX's or better, atleast the last time I was there. I may be making a career move to Portland so I might get to enjoy the noise and no alcohol laws like everyone else who lives there. :shoothead:
  8. I don't think it really a question of what you would use a 413cc motor for. It's a question of hoy you arrive at that displacement. I think you can use 400-500cc motor for whatever you want within reason. It's when you get closer 600+cc when you start getting application specific. I know a guy that races MX up in WA with one of my old 535cc motors (he's sort of a retard that I sold a motor that I got bored with to). No matter what engine is in my bike I will never run more than a +4 swing arm, but I am not hill climbing or drag racing. My triple in an aftermarket chassis is open for debate as to what sort of swingarm I am going to use. I may need some help figuring that out from folks with experience with aftermarket hill shooting chassis.
  9. So....I get an email from eBay stating that the guy I sold the carbs to has done an information discovery thinf with eBay (where eBay realease our cxontact info to each other). I am not sure if this is a positive thing or what?
  10. The teams that do well in the East competition tend not to do well at any other competition. Floating the car and propelling it in the water is a required portion of the East copetition. If the car doesn't give the tech inspectors a good feeling about how well it will perform in the water they will DQ the car. The best teams in the East race use air chambers to float and have spent alot of time making sure the bottom of the car is hydrodynamically sound. Some even have a suspension system that allows them to pull the wheels above the water line. The top speed of the best cars on the water is typically 5-7mph. Engine overheating is a problem for some teams during that part of the competition as well.
  11. Probably, but because you have a flat plane crankshaft and aylinders that fire 180 degrees from each other, you do not need to balance the crankshaft with a bob weight mass. In other words, the weight of the rod and piston do not matter. If given the chance one might like to have parts (rods and pistons) that weighed about the same.
  12. That's different.
  13. I'll buy the intp the statement regarding to the CTE of the cast piston and stock cylinder being close to the same. I would also respect Banchetta's experience. I don't agree, but Banchetta's experience is worth something around here.
  14. ...............This might be a dumb question, but was does the term "wings" translate to on an ATV?
  15. The goal is to get the bike up to normal operating temperature under light load initially and then let it cool enough so that you can touch the head with your bare hand. After you do that a few times you can start following the same pattern with progressively more load on the engine.
  16. BS You're right, that none of us on here, so far, know the owner or the bike and it probably be incorrect to give it the 'ol BS certification without that knowledge. However, like you demonstrated, there are only a couple ways to arrive at the displacement of 413cc. Common sense and a bit if industry knowledge will then give you the following: no one is making custom pistons and rings to the dimension needed to get to 413cc. Additionally, if you were to have a crankshaft made to the dimensions required to get to 413cc, it would probably cost more than the bike is worth. In either case, you wind up needing a fracional bore, stroke, or both to get to 413cc. Past all that, I really don't care as I certainly will not be bidding on it.
  17. I think some one on here a long time ago cannicalized a set of stock foot pegs by cutting off the mounting plate and using it as a spacer.
  18. You have to be careful once you change the rod, as they tend to try to jump off the work bench and run up your pant leg.
  19. I agree.
  20. For that please refer to the episode of the Dave Chapelle Show, "When keeping it real goes wrong."
  21. I can't really see how it would wind up being 413cc in displacement without have custom pistons made. On a less serious note, maybe he is adding the volume of the boost bottle to engine displacement.
  22. Do a search of this forum and I think you should find the name of the guy that does the graphics kits. As we just had a thread about this not too long ago. If not go look over on www.glamisdunes.com , the guy that does it is a regular poster of there . I think he is local to SoCal.
  23. I would like to help, but I am not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know how to not scratch the plastic when you put on a graphics kit? Do you want to know how to put the graphics kit on without getting bubble in the decals?
  24. I just saw it and thought the same thing.
  25. I want to see a tire catch on fire next time..............
