  1. Not anymore. I made those pipes about 4-5 years ago when I lived up in WA. I copied the dimensions of a CPI expansion chamber and added a silencer to them. I actually think the pipes wound up looking like a set of Power Pro pipes that I had around the same time, except the ones I made were quite a bit better quality. I have made several other sets of pipes with varying levels of quality and performance. I can certainly say that I have never done anything as gay as what was being auctioned off in the auction on eBay.
  2. I have oillite bronze bushings that I made in the a-arms on my red bike. I think that will probably be all that I will use from now on assuming that I can buy or make them. It's been awhile since I have owned a j-arm bike, but I remember seeing the j-arm Pivot Works set listed the last time I was looking through my RMATV catalog and being impressed with their bearing selection. They had alot of threewheeler bearing stuff too.
  3. Is it important to have a flange nut? Can't you just use a washer under the nut? I think I have washers under the nuts on my red bike (I'm not getting up to go look). Are you clear coating the steel parts that you are polishing to keep them from rusting?
  4. First of all you can figure out how thick a boundary layer is with out a modeling program if you are willing to make an assumption about the speed of air traveling over a surface. The 2mm number I tossed out there is round up from some thin like 1.8935.................mm. I could throw together a simulation of the part in a CFD software package if necessary, but it's really not necessary. You're right that I must have been absent the day they were teaching how to not understand Bernoulli's principle. Aim the intake charge, really? That might be the most ignorant thing I have heard today and I was at a NASCAR race. I mean, obviously that's what the person who orginally designed the manifold was thinking as well. With regard to V-Force reeds out flowing all of the other reed valves, who told you that? It's not remotely accurate. In fact, from a mass air flow stand point, V-Forces are the worst reed valves. The trade off is that they have one of the best and most consistant opening profiles.
  5. 200s is a pull start or elctric start, I believe. They are not the same engine. 200X's are a lot of fun. I have been trying to stop myself from buying a threewheeler lately.
  6. I have not evey done business with Kenz, but I heard several stories from several people about crazy shit like that. The most I can recall paying for extended stud of that size is 70 cents a piece.
  7. Do you know how the Allison grade brake works? I can't seem to fin any technical information it. All I have found is general advertising related stuff. :geek:
  8. The pipes in the picture that I made had silencers in them. If we are talking about the pipes on eBay, then I am sure that they are load and would definitely make you bike stand out.
  9. RMATV sells the Pivot Works set.
  10. Your technique is fine. I am not sure where the number of times to kick it comes from. You can probably kick it three times and get a reasonable result.
  11. I am pretty demanding of the folks that work for me with respect to quality of work and professionalism. In my industry, if your ideas or work is correct 80% of the time, you are a winner. I don't actually wind up having to get rid of many people, they mostly take care of that themselves. We work at such a fast pace someone (office folk) who can't hang will be behind, lost, or frustrated very quickly and they leave on there own. The strange thing is that most of them do not ask for help and try to hide the fact that they might need help all the way until the end. My shop guys on the other hand tend to sort themselves out. We have a couple really good shop supervisors and quite a few very experienced guys that work for them. Obviously the jobs out in the shop require less in the way of education, experience, or skill so they pay less, but have more potential applicants. The guys out in the shop know when somebody is going to work out or not almost immediately and they usually get any issues sorted out before it ever gets back to me. The shops jobs are the ones that get the most creative applications and resumes submitted though (it's pretty entertaining). Back to my original employee issue, I mean who in the world thinks that day light savings time is voluntary, let alone thinks that it's something they should email and ask their boss while he's out of town? :shoothead:
  12. The "cross hair" style intake is sort of pointless IMO. I understand what the person who designed them was trying to accomplish, but I think he may have been absent the day they were teaching the laws of aerodynamics. Assuming the intake charge is moving near the speed of sound, the boundary layer over the surface of the "cross hairs" is about 2mm. So if you add 2mm to every surface that air flows over in the intake, how much open area do you have to move an intake charge to the reed valve? My answer is not much. Personally, I don't believe the type on intake that we are talking about here is worth anything, but some people like them. If I were you, I would sell your intakes on eBay and buy something else.
  13. I am not sure that I would go to 16cc domes unless your were going to run the engine on alcohol. 17cc might be reasonable to use but it really depends on where (altitude) and how you ride. Extremely high compression in a Banshee engine can tend to be pretty rough on the rotating assembly.
  14. It's really needs to be a new truck unless I can find an '06 sitting on a dealer lot somewhere.
  15. The fifth wheel issue is interesting. I will probably wind up with a mild lift on the truck as I don't think I have learned my leeson about lifting trucks yet.
  16. I won't hold that against you.
  17. I don't really like any of the new body styles, hence one of the reasons that I started this thread. The GM front end it definitely a strike against them. How does everyone feel about the new emissions equipment on the 2008 models?
  18. I am pretty sure that the Ford 6.4 liter engine is based around the same architecture as the 6.0 liter engine. I have heard that the new Ford automatics transmissions are ok now, is that true? I really like the new new Dodge tucks if for no other reason that you can get an exhaust brake on the engine as a factory option. I should probably add that I am planning on keeping the truck for awile after I buy it (I have had my current truck for 7 years). :geek:
  19. I have recently decided that I need a new truck and after picking up a couple diesel truck magazines I have come to the conclusion that I am decidedly out of date when it comes to knowledge about current model 3/4 - 1 ton diesel trucks. Like I said, I am looking to get a 3/4 - 1 ton diesel truck with four wheel drive. It will be my daily driver and it will spend most of it's time on-road. The truck will need to be new (2007 or 2008 model) and I do not really have any brand loyalty any more, so that's wide open. Price really doesn't matter within reason. Additionally, i will not be regularly towing anything. With all of that said, what make, model, options, cab configuration, bed length, etc. would you get and why? Thanks for the help in advance.
  20. I really don't want to recommend a place for you to get your nuts polished at. I think it might be gay? Cascade has them as you said.
  21. I made this set of pipes. It's wasn't that hard. Getting them to the nearest chrome shop (happened to be in Canadia) was the hardest part. Those pipes pictured in the auction took next to no effort to make and are probably one of the larger piles of crap that I have seen on eBay lately. Think before you type, you might try it some time.
  22. I like that analogy. I may to borrow it from you some time. I am out of town at the track this weekend, and one of the fairly new guys that was just transferred under me sent me an email yesterday asking if participation in day light savings time was voluntary. I certainly hope that it's not an indication of his performance, otherwise he will be getting released to the industry.
  23. If this turns into a pissing match...............somebody can send me an OEM head and gasket and I will run it back to back with a cool head on an engine dyno. Y'all can figure what you want to be monitored. The instrumentation package I put together could be viewed as being subjective, so you can sort that out. :geek:
  24. If he is referring to o-ring'ing the headm then that mean he has had o-ring grooves cut into his head so that he doesn't have to run a head gasket. :geek:
  25. I believe that there are to different two different subjects to be discussed when comparing an OEM head to a Brand X cool head. First, is obviously how efficiently heat is removed from the engine, which is a very complex subject. Second, is the uniformity of heat transfer through the system. :geek:
