I get my studs from a local hardware store as well.

You need to tell us what type of terrain you ride in and what your riding style is like. I will be happy to suggest some settings then.

Let me make sure that I am clear on the question: We are talking about getting a Wiseco piston coated by a third party, and not talking about a new product from Wiseco? Correct? Assuming the prior I believe in coating certain pistons in certain applications with certain coatings. Most coating people put on pistons don't do a damn thing. I have even recently seen a product, shown to me by someone on here, that allows you to coat parts with a ceramic coating at home with a convential oven. :shoothead: In regard to coating around the combustion area there are a couple of ceramic and TiAln coatings developed by Balzer that can enhance the combustion process (or stop the combustion process from destroying parts). Coating the underside of the piston with a ceramic coating is worthwhile in many cases. Coating the combustion chamber surface can also be useful. That's it. If Wiseco was coating their pistons, then I would probably buy one of two to fool around with, but I would suspect, until proven wrong that it was a marketing tool. The main problem with people having a 3rd party coat their pistons is that coatings have a thickness. Pistons are a fairly high tolerance component and dimensionally adding to them (via a coating) in any way is certainly going to effect it's performance and longevity or the performance and longevity of other parts around it. Extra thinckness in certain areas can be dealy with by the end user, but the majority of the end user to not have the knowledge or capability to do it. An example would be if you had the piston skirt coated then you would need to accomodate that with the cylinder bore. A piston is not easily measured as it is not round, so how does the general public figure out how much to increase the bore size? Past that you may have to adjust ring grooves and ring thicknesses due to the coating on the skirt. .......................I'm spent for now.

I have proof that a Pro Design (I think Noss heads are a bit different with respect to coolant passages) cool head has less of a coolant pressure delta than a stock head. That's about it. Otherwise, my statement is based off of my shitty memory of what I have seen with thermocouples on the dyno. :geek:

There is a thread about it in the site announcements forum (assuming you are talking about rosts in respect to this site).

Who made that intake manifold?

This might be a dumb question, but why do you want glass fender on you Colorado? You might want to check this out: http://www.coloradofans.com/

There is a fair chance that I may be moving back up that direction (Portland, OR) in the near future. I miss Moses Lake a little bit. It was always cool to go out there on a big weekend, camp on a dune next to the water, and pull a boat up on the shore. Moses is also the only place that I have ever been where I had one of the fastest bikes in the area. Other than being really rough, Beverly seems to attract quite a high concentration of idiots (the kind that can't ride very well and run into things).

If you have the money, you might want to grab the Raptor as well, as long as it's not beat to hell.

I would look put a cool head on stock motor simply for the added cooling benefit. What domes that you run is a seperate issue. :geek:

I have gone through a ton of handle bar switches. As soon as any sand gets in them it is all over. I had one of the guys from the electronic shop at work partially pot the my latest switch with epoxy. I think I have had this switch for about two years which is a world record for me.

and.............................. Am I missing something here?

Word. Even if it a pile of crap you can still figure a way to get $1500 back out of it.

I wouldn't bring paddles with you as they will get torn up. The place is pretty small and rocky. It is a good place to go for the day and drink beer. On a big weekend it gets just as packed as Moses Lake does.

Don't forget crap and ass.

Heat treatment is a big part of it the property of the fastener, but that's not what the standard defines. Same thing with carbon content. So, yes, you are wrong, but it's really not a simple subject. Different standards organizations specify different properties in their given standards. Rarely can any of the standards be exactly cross referenced to each other. Instead of posting a link to the definitions of the standards, here is more useful docuement. http://www.americanfastener.com/technical/...kings_steel.asp

From my experience, the price really depends on how busy the shop is. If they can tack your parts into an existing order, then they usually can give you a hell of a deal.

Dammit. The auction must have been cancelled or something as I can't find it on eBay at the moment. The auction was for a single YZF450 front shock that had a Buy it Know price of like $10.

That is a good point. I think I must have skipped over the fact that you were only at the new position for a day. i would have atleast given it a week, if for no other reason, not to seem flakey.

I am mostly responsible for hijacking your other thread. Sorry about that. I actually posted this in there the other day. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-YFZ4...sspagenameZWDVW

That is a good coating company. They have several different coatings available. I actually prefer these guys. I have done business with them for several years now for work and for perdonal stuff. http://www.performancecoatings.com/

A grade of a bolt is a standard that a bolt is manufactured to. National standards you may see are Grade 5 or Grade 8 and are identified by hash marks that are forged in to the top of the bolt head. Of course that's just an example as metric fasteners are not gradedd that way. Metric fasteners are grade via a DIN or Nippon standard schedule and will be represented by a decimal number on top of the head of the bolt (12.4 is an example). Long story short, a graded fastener assures a minimum quality and strength charactersitic of a fastener. :geek:

I have a minor with my BS degree in asian art history. At the time I nonly did that because most of the classes would count as general university requirements and it didn't take more than an extra class or to get the minor. While I have never done anything remotely professional with tha part of my degree, it has actually benefitted me on several occaisions when I have had to come with something to talk about with Japanese guests my company brings to town. :geek:

Sometimes promotions aren't all they are cracked up to be. At the end of the day you have to be happy with what our doing otherwise the pay raise and new job title just won't matter. From my experience people can perform outstandingly in one position and given different responsibility or a different environment they wind up performing very badly. It would be much more detrimental to your career to keep the promotion that you weren't going to be able to do the best you can with, in that if you continued on not doing the best job, management may not understand or care why you are not performing and simply decide to can you. I would always rather have an employee come to me within the first week or so in a new postition and tell me that he didn't like it or that he couldn't do as good of job as he would like. That way, as a manager, I have time to deal with the problem and accomodate the employee. Otherwise, I would be forced to figure out what is wrong on my own and deal with however possible down the road after things had already fallen behind or been screwed up. In that case, I probably would not be real happy and not very interested in helping you. It sounds like you did the right thing.
