34mm Mikuni flat slide carb adjustment
Ducman replied to Saxon_20's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Funny thing, when I recently got my banshee built at Redline, Cam and I discussed keeping the 34mm Mikunis. Cam was more familiar with the kehins and said he could probably get them tuned better and If I made changes he could give me better recommendations If I had kehins, so I went with the Kehin 35pwk. He said that most builders use Kehins except for the builders in the UT area and they tend to use Mikunis for some odd reason. Maybe you should ask a builder in UT what dump tubes to run. I could tell you which ones I ran if I go home and take one of my old carbs appart, but I'm at sea level, and you are at 4300, so you might need an even leaner dump tube than I did. -
34mm Mikuni flat slide carb adjustment

I used to have 34mm FS Mikunis. (still have them in a box) The main jet size and pilot size are pretty similar to what a stock banshee carb would take. The main jets are interchangeable with the stock carb jets, the pilots are not. Do you still have the airbox? Lid on or off? Type of filter? 270 is probably not far off where you need to be depending on the air box restrictions, but maybe a little lean. The needle jet is a little trickey. You can raise or lower the needle same as stock for leaner or richer, but rather than changing the needle altogether for a leaner needle you change the dump tube that surrounds the needle. When I got my 34mm mikunis out of the box they came with way too rich of a dump tube so I had to get a much leaner one. That may be your problem. When you ride at WOT, if it cleans up and gets on the pipe and revs out, then its probably just the needle giving you the problem. You probably need a leaner dump tubes. -
New carb kits? Did you change some jets?

I rode for a while with a twist throttle because my carbs had stiff springs and they would kill your thumb in a short amount of ride time. I didn't like the twist throttle in the whoops, so I ended up cutting the springs shorter so the pull wasn't as bad and went back to a thumb throttle.

Tapatalk test, going to Redline tomorrow

I thought so, but I also thought there might be a funny story behind it. The humor on this forum can be pretty edgy. If you want to see the funniest most politically incorrect sick humor ever, you should check out the closed FB group vicious offensive memes. You won’t believe the shit people post on there, and the comments. I actually think the group will be deleted by Fuckerburg before too long, but I never lol’ed so many times in one day in my life. -

Ha ha. Ok guys, what makes him a dipshit? I’ve only seen him for about 2 hours. -

I didn’t get any dipshit vibe at all. I have a true dipshit Banshee builder that’s 6 miles from my house and I choose to drive 6 hours north to a Redline instead. So far I think I’m pretty happy with my choice. My only complaint would be, holly shit he needs a sign out on the highway at his driveway and on his building. I drove right past his driveway and had to make a u turn and then going up his driveway I’m wondering who’s private drive I’m going up and will I be able to turn around towing my trailer. Beautiful country where he lives. I sure wouldn’t mind living there with 100 acres of my own to hunt. -

Wow, I was very impressed with Cam. I learned a ton just listening to him with some other customers ordering up some killer serval set ups. He is amazing at working within your budget to get the best bang for the buck and steers you towards your particular riding goal rather than selling you stuff that you don’t really need. Although my future wish list just got a lot bigger after seeing the wall of cylinders, all the goodies, and some sniper pipes. -

My dad has a nice North River fishing boat. We fish the lakes but most of all we like to fish on the ocean out of Trinidad just north of Eureka. Hence the halibut picture from last summer. I used to water ski when I was younger but I mostly just fish now, ski boats and jet skis usually just piss me off. I think I would probably get road rage from all the dum asses in ski boats these days. -

I'll be stoked if it tops 80. Its going to be so nice to finally have a professionally put together and tuned banshee. My amateur mechanic skills just aren't cutting it at this level. -

Even though I’m an engineer I’m kinda technologically retarded when it comes to I-phones and apps, so this is my test run. I’m exited to be driving 5 hours up to Redline tomorrow to drop off my banshee. I have a 421 cub. I’ve never had it on a dyno with my current mods, and I’m going to make a few changes while I’m at it. Complete rebuild and a pro mod trans. Probably going to switch to 35mm pwk’s and Redline custom race domes. I have VF-2’s and pro design intakes. I’ll post the dyno results in a few weeks. I looked through the dyno forum and didn’t see any dyno results with cubs and rocket pipes so this should be interesting. I use my shee for all around dune play and hill climbing with an occasional drag race with friends. I kinda wish that I was switching to servals but that’s a little out of my budget, I bought the cubs way back before servals existed. Anyway, here a test picture of halibut we caught on my dads boat last summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Same torque sequence as stock, criss cross the middle then the outer nuts. Torque in sequence to 10 lbs, then 15, then 20 Ft-lbs. I usually go back through the pattern 2x on the last torque to make sure they're all at 20 Ft-lbs.

FYI, I had the P-8 dump tubes in my spare parts so those aren't the dump tubes I'm currently using. They must be a Q-0 or Q-2.

J09 - are your carburetors mikuni or kehin flat slides?

Banshee 2007 YFZ450 shock fittment
Ducman replied to RoccothebeastQC's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I'm a fat guy and the stock banshee shocks were way too weak for me. I've been running YFZ450 shocks on the stock arms for years with no issues. I like the increased ride height and I have never been able to make them bottom out. I have the preload on the shocks backed off as much as possible. Didn't know someone had made arms for the shock swap, I'm going to have to look into that. -
I have a +4 swing arm too and I just buy extra chain length and just cut the chain to the actual length needed. I'm sure 120 links is plenty. I usually buy the primary drive x-ring gold coated from RM ATV because its a cheaper x-ring chain and I ride the OR dunes and sometimes ride the beach. The gold coated helps keeps the chain from getting corroded and looks better over time. I have a 421 cub and seem to get a decent life out of this chain.

I think the P-8 dump tubes are the size that that worked for me if memory serves me right, its been a long time. I do remember that the dump tubes that came with the TM 34's were way way to rich.

Vito's has the VF3 replacement for $120+shipping. New VF4's are $225, so you would save $105 by just replacing the reeds. I don't know if the VF4's have much of a performance or maintenance advantage. https://www.vitosperformance.com/atv_parts/product.php?productid=854&cat=181&page=1

I ran my VF2's for many many hours in my 4mil, and then in my 4mil cub before they needed reed replacement. You could tell that they were starting to get stressed near the mounting screws and also at the corners at the downstream edge of the reed. I have heard of severe catastrophic failure of VF reeds where they break and kill the top end, but mine had plenty of signs that they were starting to get worn out and didn't look like they were about to come apart. I just checked my VF'2 reeds that have quite a few 421 cub hours on them and they still look like new. Not a bad Idea to keep a new set handy though, because you can't just go down to the nearest motorcycle stealership and buy a pair, and when they start to look worn, you don't want to risk running them any more.
