  1. I have owned at least 10 bikes since i was 16, i started out on a 400 and went up as i got older and more experienced. I have owned 5 sportbikes. cbr600, zx6, honda 1100XX, R1, and now a Ninja ZX9. I kept the ninja over the R1 because it will still keep up with all the litre bikes but is way more comfortable on long trips (riding to Maine in a few weeks). As a beginner you need to buy a 600 or less to get experience and learn to ride! There is more to riding than going fast, proper throttle control in turns, picking turn-in points, knowing when to use the back brakes and when not too, anticipating EVERYONE ELSES MOVE before they do! It takes years of riding to really know what you are doing and how to be as safe as possible. You will drop your bike at somepoint, and if you ride long enough, you will crash! I have twice, once was my fault, a patch of oil in a curve that I was trying to drag my knee on, ouch! Learn to ride defensively and take all the training course you can. Your insurance will be more than your payments on a sportbike! I have taken rider classes for beginners, advanced, and just completed Kieth Code track day school in California, all well worth the money! Be safe, be smart, and have fun.
  2. I always use electric tape on mine, just start at the end closes to the wheel and work your way to the chain side. I have been doing this since I started racing in the late 80's and has never failed!
  3. A bad reed will cause the symptoms you are describing, like sredish said. Take a good look at them and make sure they "seat" on the cage. Also, check your jets, (pilot and main) for a blockage, It could be a clogged pilot jet.
  4. OK, my turn for my 2 cents. definately go with a prodesign filter plate or equal. pipes do not add to cooling problems, but some engine ice or water wetter is recomended to help keep it cool. Banshee's are fine for the woods, as long as you know how to ride it in the woods, you need to keep the rev's up and use the clutch alot. I have ridden Wayne Nat'l Forest, and going buy the mileage on the map, i got around 8 mpg. We ride at a pretty good clip though, so this will vary. I have found the holeshot XCR's work great on my shee. I have tried razors, shredders, claws, turf tamers, and bandits, The XCR's have outperformed and outlasted all of them, just my experience though, not saying the others are bad. Get rid of the t.o.r.s. asap, it will cause trouble someday, and probably at a bad time, it is simple to do and only around $50. Get used to the shee in the woods, and you will love it! It will also keep you on here to learn all the in's and out's of shee ownership! Now buy one already!
  5. Damn, I am leaving early on the 12th for my trip to Maine and Canada on the bikes. I wish I could go with you. I'll be back on the 20th, maybe we can get another trip together with Rod, Broke, and whoever else. Keep me posted!
  6. Sorry Broke, I have to work again! We need to find a time to go to Haspin, if you liked the woods in Attica, you will love Haspin! Plus there is a much better dragstrip there. Hope to ride with you again soon!
  7. Great, thanks for the info so far, keep it coming! I am 32 (going on 23!) so the Hampton area sounds great! We are actually coming up on 1 after we leave Cape Cod in Jersey.
  8. My last one lasted for a whole summer, more than all the others i have tried. At least as good if not better than the barnett kits.
  9. It works the best if you polish it inside and out, get into all the corners for the smoothest flow possible. Put something in the holes that would connect to the intake boots, something that will be air tight. After you get all that done grab your favorite fishing pole and bait, tie the shiny boost bottle to your line about 16-20" from the bait and cast away! It works great as a bobber!
  10. I like a guy with a positive attitude! Count me in as well, also Mrmatt, and fixitrod wants to go.
  11. I'm not sure, it depends on work. I would love to go, Rod asked me if I wanted to go. I'll have to see if I can hook up with someone around close that is going. Thanks for the info on maine, I can't wait to go!
  12. Thanks banchetta, i would love to see some pics. If you are available around the 15-16 of june, you should show us around some roads! Would like to meet you and ride a little. What bike do you have? Later
  13. I have eyeball engineering arms, and they come very close, but never touch.
  14. If you have your stock silenccers, you can save yourself some money by modifying them to fit. I just cut an inch off mine and they bolt right up to toomey's. you have to cut the mounts off of the stinger part and I use hose clamps when I put mine on the toomey's. They work great and keep you legal for cheap$$$$$!
  15. Obviously it is not getting gas, check to see if fuel is coming out the petcock, and if it is, you need to check the carbs again. make sure they are clean and you hook everything back up, I.E. the hoses, and slides are in correctly. It takes fuel and spark to fire, so one is not happening. Also, make sure the gas cap's vent is working, I have seen this alot on raptors, maybe it happens to banshee's too, it is the same cap.
  16. Well, do you know of anything special I should see while there?
  17. A 35 pilot on a mostly stock engine? FMF couldn't find they're ass with both hands! Definately go to a 27.5 with about 1-1/2 to 2 turns out on the airscrew.
  18. A friend and I are taking a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine in june (13-15). We are going on bikes (CBR954RR/ZX9) and would like to know of any special places, things to see, etc. Also of any good roads we can enjoy (preferably curvy and scenic). Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! If you live close, maybe I'll buy you lunch somewhere and talk about our quads and rides. We are leaving Indiana on the 12, going east to D.C. and on to the coast. Then head up N. to Bar Harbor for a day or so and on to Niagra Falls, into Canada and back S. through Detroit and bacck home by the 20th. About a 3500mi. ride, my ass will be sore after that long on a crotch-rocket, but WHAT THE HELL! Thanks for any info, tips you guy's give me!
  19. I have found most all toomey's do like 1 size richer pilot (27.5). You mught try it, and I agree with the needle position bancheta and sredish are telling you.
  20. The ball and rod are in the clutch, behind the adjustment nut in the center of the clutch basket.
  21. You could send it to TCS (total control suspension) and have it revalved the right way for your weight and riding type. You will be much happier than just changing the spring.
  22. Basically, they just look better than the stock tube!
  23. Agreed! PTR mids are a great low-mid pipe, you will not have a great top-end compared with toomey, cpi, and some others, but they are the best for woods!
  24. Nightrider is right, you will go through reeds like crazy on the low setting, it lets them move too easy and wears out quick. You really don't notice a difference anyway. My last set of V-force cages actually had a disclaimer on setting them on the low, they even admit it wears out much faster!
  25. Are you talking about the screws for the stinger to silencer, or the mount to the frame? I have had T5's for over 5yrs now, and never had any problems with screws coming loose.
