  1. You're saying she would be dissapointed with a 400? Hell, it's something to ride and it's not really that slow. What we want isn't always what we should get! I'm just concerned for her safety, I've seen too many people "get what they want" and it be out of their league and they just fuck themselves and/or the bike up sooner or later. I don't know her or her skill level but based on the fact she's only ridden a few times I just think the 450 is too much.
  2. Ah, I was thinking the elkas were alittle longer then stock 450 shocks. Sounds good to me then, they're valved for the banshee and stuff though right?
  3. I couldn't understand the original post, I thought he was comparing these 40 dollar things as IMS equivilants or close.
  4. I would imagine the baja 1000 is the equivilent of most peoples entire race season and more, not to mention the hours of practice and other desert races they participated in.
  5. Some people modify the stockers, they get a second set and cut off the mounting plate and just weld or bolt the peg to the side of the other. It's in no way near the quality of the IMS pegs.
  6. Aren't the basic dual rate elkas in the 400 dollar range? they would be the better choice by far.
  7. I've never heard of such things, amsoil is a synthetic oil and is ashless so it's not going to gum up and build carbon on everything, expecially at 50:1. The guys who turned me onto Amsoil were BAJA 1000 riders and have used about everything available and said amsoil was BY FAR better then the others they used. After a single race on the other oils the motor was ready for a rebuild, on amsoil it hardly showed signs of wear and no carbon at all.
  8. Just because you can "ride" a banshee in no way means you can fully handle one. For a beginner with limited experience it would be very wise to keep her on something alittle more mild, something along the lines of a 400 ex, a modded blaster, (both of which can be had cheap) or even a z/kfx400 then when she's ready to move up after she gets some hours in you can sell for about what you paid if you find a good enough deal and bump her up to the big toys. I have friends that can "ride" my banshee, but that's a loose term and in no way means they have the experience to handle the full power of it under most riding conditions. You don't want her getting hurt, those 450's are not toys and will get away from someone inexpereienced.
  9. Just do alittle searching on the site, there's tons and tons of information about everything you could want to know about the banshee and what to do to it ect. With just a few mods to your intake, exuast, and porting you can push the 60 hp mark pretty easily, then when you get into BB's and strokers the numbers just go up from there. If you've got the fabrication skills to fab mounts and pipe adapters I'd say it's a pretty bad ass idea and to go for it.
  10. Elka 450 shocks fit stock a arms? I find that hard to believe. How long are these shocks and how much are you compressing them to fit? Sounds sketchy.
  11. Oh I see, I didn't read your post carefully enough. :shoothead: I might try that for a temporary fix.
  12. He's just looking for something to argue about I guess. I mention where I live and he goes off on some rant about the civil war. I didn't fight in the civil war and neither did you OJ so why are you even bringing it up like it applies to either of us?
  13. I don't have a compression tester. It should be fine, the top end is relatively new and the bike still runs strong, it just recently developed this rich condition.
  14. I honestly don't care.
  15. If 90% was faught in Virginia how did Texas loose the battle* and why in fucking hell are we talking about the civil war now? Can you just not help being a fucking idiot?
  16. What are you talking about? Why are you quoting me and saying that shit? I'm from Texas, how am I a Yankee and how am I related to these fucking drag races?
  17. Are you buying new elkas or what? you're be much better off telling them your set up and having them custom make some for you rather then trying to hybrid the shocks with the shee that were meant for something else
  18. No, but I bridged the two TORS wires that pluged into the harness. Would not disconnecting those make it run like that? I'll give it a shot, but it started doing this before I evern touched the TORS. I just removed it when I had the carbs off to jet.
  19. That's the conclusion I'm coming to, I haven't had the banshee a real long time but before I advanced the timing I did ride in diffrent weather (few times in 30* and then up to 70-80*) and it didn't seem to effect it much if at all.
  20. This is the most redundant fucking thread I've ever seen. I actually waisted alot of my time reading threw here only to come across the same retarted statements (from oj of course) over and over again. :: What's funny about reading plugs MyFault? Care to elaborate?
  21. Mine richened up like crazy with only about a 20-30 degree temp change also. Is the advanced timing suppost to make it more finiky to weather/elevation changes? 'Cause it was blubbering like a fool in 70-80 degree weather but ran like a top in 40 deg.
  22. I think this gets asked so often because of how much contradictory information gets posted. You hear all these people who "asbolutly love" their v3's or rad valves w/e. Then in the same thread you have people they blew their motor because of the cage, or it sucks compared to the other. I don't see how there can be so much god damn variability in the same brand cages that some peoples come apart and loose reeds or w/e and others are going on years of use and are just fine. I guess it has to be user instalation error. I've been doing a lot of searching trying to compare the v-force, g-3, rad valve, pyramid, and haven't come up with anything concrete other then about 1/4'th to 1/3'rd of v-force owners hate them and have had problems. Everyone else seems to love whatever reed cage they have and think it's the best so I guess you can't really go wrong.
  23. I'll check the yellow pages and all for some small airports and see what's up in my area. What does AV gas usually run on average?
  24. Got my Sig. bro. I can't stand it when they try to shut down riding areas for retarted fucking reasons like some plant. What the hell is the plant doing any good? I doubt the shit is going to become extinct because people ride the dunes there. :shoothead:
  25. Would a heat gun or maybe even an oven do this? It seems it might be easier.
