Yeah it seems like most banshee owners haven't grasped that the banshee does better when you let its tires spin up. They figure that a 450 can pull 10 paddles, so they totally could since they're faster. When in truth you end up robbing the engine of power. 4 strokes have that ability to lug, the banshee needs fewer paddles to spin up. On a stock stroke, you never need more than 9 paddles, 8's on extremes. Match up 2 equal riders/banshees and the 10 paddle might take it off the line but the guy running 8 paddles will blow by him halfway up the hill.

If it has no spark then its not a fuel issue. This guy should know that. I mean yeah it could also have some kind of fuel issue, but the reason why its not gonna run right now is electrical. Luckily the elec. system on the shee is very simple and easy to diagnose. You could check out every possible culprit in less than 30 minutes. -
I'd _____ in her _______! My next wife is coming right off that website.

Yup Tx...that's it. What's your excuse man?

Personally I always thought it looked boring as shit. But then I'm used to launching up into the air using a kite. I have plenty of wet landings...mostly from the kite losing power and falling out of the sky while I'm 25 feet up. Nothing like a freefall right onto your ass from that height.

who would you pick up or not pick up?

13/16 here. Not bad but those 3 would be so NOT COOL! -
We'll be there T'day in the dunes off of Gecko. I agree that t'day is only good for people watching. Riding is usually kept to a minimum unless you wanna ride to China Wall. Its not nearly as bad down there. Olds gets closed every night when the punks start really being asses. It takes the cops about 45 min to clear the whole area, afterwhich you're welcome to come back down. They leave one unit behind to keep an eye on things. I have yet to see it get busy again, all the punks bail as soon as the cops come. All the riders just ride up to the top of the hill and watch the morons get hearded while picking out which fire they're gonna head down to get. I think last HW they ran everyone out around 10:30pm, t'day it was like 8:30pm or something crazy. But afterwards the hill was actually alot nicer without the local element. If you've been in dunes before, then t'day at glamis is fine for a first glamis experience. If you've never been in dunes, pick a different weekend.

I think I remember DUNEDEMON saying that the heat is going to affect the spring's performance characteristics if you go PC. He used to work for Eibach.

When's the last time you changed your plugs? Fouled plugs would be my first guess.

My old turbine core II's fit onto my t5's just fine as well. Why do you wanna run the fart cannon, I mean hush kit?

Is porting the best mod for the banshee?
Wallrat replied to mattb348's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
When it comes to BEST mods I'd say the air filter first just cuz of the terrible design of the stock filter. After that I'd lean more towards pipes/suspension. A piped shee can be alot of fun for a long time. A high hp machine on stock suspension is just wrong. -
...And a blown crank is a perfect excuse for an H129!

Well regardless it looks like you overheated it. The exhaust port gets the hottest out of the cyl so that's why ur piston is melted there. I would go over those exhaust ports really close cuz if there's chips, then it obviously made contact with the cyls. Take apart your water pump and take a look there, make sure the bearing isn't flowered and the impeller is still intact. Might as well replace it with a billet one while ur in there. Also you should install a temp sensor before you ride again. I'd also check out the crank really well in case it got damaged. Actually if it was me I'd split the cases just to make sure that nothing went down inside and to visually inspect the crank bearings...but then I'm kinda anal that way. Plus you can split the cases and have it back together in a few days if nothing is damaged.
-
Yeah I know. What I mean is, are they melted or does it look like the pistons smacked something and got dented/chipped?
-
what brand of trailer do you have?
Wallrat replied to grounded's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Haulmark Transport here. 14x7 enclosed...no pics with me at the moment but I'll edit. -
Yeah it looks like it overheated. Are the piston tops next to the exhaust port melted or chipped? Hard to tell from the pic. While you're at it you might wanna do the meat thermometer mod so you can keep an eye on your temps. I'm amazed that your cyls don't have any damage. Did you maybe forget to put coolant back in after installing the head?

They're the same. Alba is cheaper at $20/set. Dunno with shipping tho... Alba bushings link

I'm racking my brain on this one. It sounds like detonation issues but if jetting is good and ur on race gas, that doesn't make sense. Is the hole in the piston from melting or does it look like it broke out? If you have a chip missing from the front of the pistons that's caused by catching on the exhaust port. Run your finger down the cyl wall into the exhaust port. The edge should be chamfered nice an smooth with no lip. My shee blew up last year cuz the shop that did the bore forgot to chamfer that port. Boy was that expensive! Took out the crank while it was at it. To check the crank you measure the free play on the rods and compare them to the specs in the clymers

2 strokes are super simple to work on but a shop will charge you top dollar. My advice is to pick it back up and learn to work on it yourself. Everybody on this forum was like you at one time. Engines are daunting at first but really easy once you start to understand them - especially 2 strokes. Pick up a Clymers manual and a compression tester. Both run about $25-$30. There's 4 things that your engine needs to start: compression, fuel, air, and fire. I like to check the easy stuff first since 9x outta 10 its an easy fix. Here's how to narrow it down a bit... Check your compression by removing 1 spark plug and screwing the tester into the plug hole. With the fuel and kill switch off, kick it over a few times with the throttle wide open until the tester gauge won't go up anymore. Write down that number. Now do the same thing for the other cylinder. Find out your altitude for your location by using google or yahoo as altitude will affect your pressure. Post the 2 numbers you got for your compression. Ideally you wanna do this with the engine warm but we'll know if your rings are shot even by doing it cold. If the compression is good, the next step is to make sure you've got fuel. So turn off the gas and pull off the fuel hoses at the carbs (just follow the hose from the fuel petcock down past the T to where they plug into the carbs. Turn on the gas briefly to make sure you have fuel dumping out of both tubes. If you do, hook em back up. We'll worry about the possibility of gunked up carbs later. Next check for spark. Take out 1 plug and then plug it back into the plug boot. With the fuel off and the kill switch on, wrap a rag around the plug so you don't get shocked. Touch the metal part of the plug to bare metal on the head bolt so that you have it grounded and have somebody kick the bike over. Make sure you're not close to the plug hole or u might get some flame. You should see it sparking. If you don't try moving it around a little since sometimes you don't get the best ground on the first try. Do this for the other plug as well. Post that too. Do these 3 things and let us know what you find. We'll be able to help more from there. Also where are you located? There might be a member near you willing to help out. This is especially handy if its an electrical issue since you can swap parts out to narrow down which part it is. Oh and if its low compression, you don't always need new pistons. Sometimes you just need new rings, which for everything will cost you less than $50 if you do it yourself. With a clymers manual it'll take you about 2-3 hours to replace the rings your first time. Eventually it'll be a 45 min job, if that. -
I modified some banshee wheels to fit a honda bolt pattern before. If I remember right Honda has their bolts about 1/8" further out. I just used a rat tail file to elongate the holes 1/16" each. As long as you're careful to go exactly straight out its not a problem. Believe it or not, you won't have any play as long as they're straight. Or the other option is to just drill new holes. My tire guy has a set of rims he uses for demos of new tires. They were yamaha rims, which he elongated the holes on to fit Hondas, then he drilled new holes to fit Suzuki. He did it so he doesn't have to keep swapping rims or have multiple sets of a new tire for demos.

If its a steel braided terry cable then you're screwed. Those things are notoriously tight.

Eh maybe I'll try camping with you guys for a change. I don't think anyone from my group is even going.

Um no you're not gonna find trailtech lights at home depot. Is this a joke that I'm just not getting? Stock stator can run 2 35w bulbs for 70w total. 200w stator can run up to 200w, although I wouldn't try pushing it that close. You should be okay if you aim for around 175w. As a cheaper option, you can get some cheap offroad lights and modify them to fit the shee. I had dual 9" lights when I bought my bike. Unfortunately since they were cheap and heavy, they eventually developed some play until it was pointless to keep them on the bike anymore. But for $70 for 2 of em...

Wow...just wow. I almost didn't post my Carlin rant simply because it was pretty long winded. That tool took the cake though. At least my post was light and amusing and gee, actually by Carlin. 04le, I'll be amazed if anybody besides holyman actually reads that crap. Why don't you start a new thread and quit trying to hijack one aptly tightled: George Carlin.
