  1. is anybody even reading this post still?
  2. I have Elkas and I'm happy with them. I've also heard a lot of good things about TCS. Keep in mind that most of the companies, PEP, TCS, Elka, Axis, they're all going to be good shocks, the feel you get is going to be with the valving. Make sure you explain exactly how you will be riding and what terrain and all. They'll ask you this, but just make sure you give it to them. My experience with Elka, or Eric anyway, is they valve them great, but the springs tend to be a tad stiff. When I changed to wider a-arms, I experimented with springs. The springs that came for stock a-arms were obviously too soft. So, I talked to Eric and we went to a stiffer spring. It was good, but I got one a little softer than that, and it seems to be just right. So, what I'm saying is, they're all only as good as the valving and spring setup. They'll all dissipate heat and function good, but choose the shock builder who accurately valves shocks and is easy to work with. Eric @ Elka, to me anyway, seems to be easy to work with. I can call him up and discuss things and we can get it working great. I've also heard really good things with Todd @ TCS, and heard he is great at valving and setting up shocks. I'd only go with those two, personally, and don't think you could make a bad decision either way, although, I don't think TCS puts together a piggyback rezzie.
  3. aaahahhahahahahahahaha
  4. I talked to stclark the other day, he said they rode a little fri. night and then a few hours sat. and then got rained out, so they just went home. I was supposed to go, and would've been pissed to get rained out.
  5. Polishing you can do yourself, but requires maintenance to keep the shine. Chrome is a no-hassle way of keeping the shine, just wash it once in awhile. Pay the $50 and have it chromed if you don't wanna have to polish the damn thing every 4 months like I do with mine.
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that they didn't make the triple rates for the shee. Anyways, they'll be a little plusher, but probably not noticeable, unless your pounding the hell out of the trails, or racing. The main spring takes care of the jumps anyways. Go w/o rezzie unless you ride super hard for an extended period of time, like racing. If you trail ride with friends and are not a big racer or really hard rider, or 300 lbs., then w/o rezzies will work fine.
  7. Good article Meat. I was actually looking at some stuff. I'll try to gather some stuff and get it in here, and I'm sure that others will do the same. Later.
  8. But there is A LOT more to it than that. The amount taken off in the intake is figured mathematically, and it has to be taken from the right areas and in the right amount. It needs to be taken out proportionally in the exhaust area as well. If it's not done correctly, you've generally got what you have got, unless there wasn't much taken to begin with and then you can possible take a little more. Quite often it's the opposite, too much is taken or it's not taken proportionally and it creates the "lightswitch" powerband and causes it to be more difficult to ride or good for only top end, drag-type riding styles. I'm no porter, I leave it up to the people who have done it with plenty of practice and who come recommended. I only have two cylinders and I don't want them screwed up. My opinion.
  9. I like plastic bushings....
  10. bansheefreak, he's talking about the flow of air, not the mechanical part of the carb, the airflow pulsates (stops and goes repeatedly) with dual carbs as one cylinder sucks air, then the other, especially with a 180* twin. Broke, volume is only half the equation to proper carb setups. You have volume, but volume is nothing without velocity. So smaller carb(s) = less volume, more velocity larger carb(s) = more volume, less velocity. If you have a lot volume without enough velocity, the airflow won't be moving too fast, it won't pull the fuel from the jets properly (vacuum) and therefore you'll have jetting issues and be low on power. This is why large carbs are often more suited to top end setups, because you have more velocity at higher rpms. If your low on volume, you'll probably have a lot of velocity, and jetting won't be hard, but it won't pull as much air as your motor wants/needs at higher rpms. Generally, low/mid power doesn't suffer because you'll have good velocity in those areas but your mid to top end power could suffer depending on how short you are on volume. The secret is to find the right combination of both to perform at it's best.
  11. I hear what your saying. It's definitely a big mountain to try and tackle. Planning is a necessity and we all need to decide what's gonna happen and get it figured out and get going. The idea of a smaller race is not a bad idea, and being ready by July (or is it June) is not even a consideration, but the following one is something to think about.
  12. Alright, two things we need to check on. 1st - The Baja race may have a drawing type entry. What I mean is, so many people try to enter, that they have to draw for the actual teams. So, we need to check this out and see what if it's so, and if so, is the chance good or slim of being drawn. 2nd - I'm not sure how many drivers there can be on one team. This may be a regulated thing, only allowing so many, so we need to check on this before we get too far along. If we have that many people that want to drive, we may have to either back some off to the chase team, or consider a 2nd team. I also have a good friend who is itching hard to be involved, preferably as a driver, but I'm sure being a part of the chase team would be a thrill nonethess. Cool. Where's the next move fellas?
  13. Let him know that my 4-door Ford pickup will eat his Eclipse up. They're "quick" but not fast. I've eaten several up just like that.
  14. You guys know I'm down. I started the freakin thread. My banshee is all good to go as well, dunno if it's a little down on the hp tho, dunno what I'd need to be even remotely competitive. When done here in a few weeks, she'll be ported and setup, maybe a different set of pipes for more mid/top. A "team" can not swap quads. The quad that starts has to be the one that finishes. I'm a little unsure as to how many people are needed to make up one team. I'm sure 4 riders at least will be needed, maybe more, have to check the class times and regs. I'm down. I'll ride and hang on with the best of em, just need to ride in the daylight, my eyes aren't the best at night. That's all I've ever wanted to do is race the baja.
  15. Damn, didn't even know this thread existed. And I am so on a journey to get there.... it's all I've ever wanted to do. So, let's do it.
  16. "Dynojet" needles are Blaster needles. Some quads run great with them, others run like crap and won't straighten out till they go back to stock. Only one way to find out.
  17. I have some rear 9" ITP .190 wheels with no tires on them. And I have some stock front rims with no tires on them. The ITPs have never been used and look brand new, the fronts have been used, have some light scratching and stuff, but look great and are in great condition. I'll get rid of all 4 wheels for $90 shipped.
  18. My crank's fine, how's yours...
  19. I'm looking for the '05 dates and can't find them off hand. The '04 dates are November 17 (yesterday) to the 21st. So, you can figure roughly one year. The prerun usually starts 30 days in advance, but only the first parts open up and the last parts won't usually open up until a week or so before the race. Entries are usually around 900 to 1200 for a team, depending on the class. Hunting.... f*^k hunting, we're talkin mexican desert, can't get any better that that.
  20. Who's machine and we need a chase truck... I'll gladly volunteer my machine, but you guys might laugh at it when it's done....
  21. We need to hit the Baja 1000 next year with a banshee team in full force. Surely between us we can find enough people to enter the race and have some support people and find enough extra parts to make a good attempt at finishing. I know Ben would, pretty sure Mike would, maybe Tats would want to. What kind of volunteers we got out there and who wants to do it. Think I'm joking...
  22. That is straight up gangster!
  23. Since when can you use YFZ a arms on the ol shee? Didn't realize you could do that.
