i think 17 is right on the money, tall gearing is key in mx or short track racing,and id stick with the dual 34's too, the single carb has a violent bottom but then signs off early, if your going to race neck and neck with other quads your going to want to hook up and accerate, long gears will pull hard, the 34's will deliver a smoother power band through the high rpm's, breaking loose from just pinning it and shifting could cost you time in a moto, id skip the pipe also the more fuel and air that passes through your bike the longer and harder it will pull, i tried all the 2-1 shit years ago, and the fastest banshee ive ever riddin, had two pipes and two carbs.........

playing in the sand is neeto put that bike on a motocross track or better yet enter any of the baja races on that bike.............. and you spell envalope.........envelope........

i ride trails with a 17, i dont hit fouth often but i can kill myself the way it pulls second and third, and my motor comes on from nothing not at 6K, then when i hit straights out here in the desert i can pull 85 and 90 mph just going through the rest of my gears, my bike with a 15 is violent with a -2 swinger it hooks great so when i pin it with a 15 i pretty much just wheelie through fourth, plus im shifting my ass off, i can ride faster with gearing that stretches, and the taller gearing tends to keep my shee from getting so squirly, plus if you got the ponies it pulls way harder.......

if you piggy back a honda civic to the space shuttle it will do mach 3 as it re enters the atmosphere....

id evaluate my riding style, then pick a shock and have it built for that, you could get an aggressive shock that will kick your ass like you have no shocks at all, at low speeds yet soak up a seventy footer like it was a curb, your riding style should determine your suspension needs, the dual rate elkas are real nice though

the only problem is the chart doesnt mention horse power, the rule of thumb is the taller the gear the harder the pull.......... providing your motor has the nuts to tow that tall of gearing, short gearing floats tall gearing pulls forever

if your motor has the nuts to pull an 18, your second and third gears are going to make your eyes bleed on a trail, it will pull so fucking hard youll need diapers to ride it

a -2 rear end on a stock front might be a little much, i think the whole idea is that you shorten the ass end 2"s and extend the front end 2, changing the geomitry of the bike in your favor for lift and lower speed handleing....... i honestly have never ridden a bike with a shortened swing arm and a stock front end, but there is an inch and five eights in either direction of chain adjustment on your stock swinger, if you lost a link in your chain(youd need to add a half link) but youd be an inch shorter, youd hook better...... but the shee is heavy in the front so, stock hitting whoops is like smaking a brick wall compared to a stretched front end and a shortened ass end, when ya gas the motor the front end jumps off the ground cause the tires are hooking up not spinning, so when you do hit the berm the front end is up allowing you to continue down the trail without just getting your ass kicked..........
