banshee man Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 hi i was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have an 2004 LE banshee and i currently put on some CPI inframes with K&N pods, thats about it for my motor work (moneys running short). it has a 350 main with a 50 pilot in it and it runs perfect, but the main problem is, is that the choke is not working. i have torn the carbs apart many of times but i cant seem to find the problem. in order to start the thing, i have to take off the carbs and throw some gas in them. ive tried the choke many times but it doesnt do anything and ive looked over all the o-rings and everything looks fine. what should i do? shee4speed Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 I think you should put smaller pilots in there. my .02  Quote
banshee man Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 yeah..but then it runs like crap, its still a bit too lean even right now Quote
shee4speed Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 The pilot is for idle. Is that where its lean?I doubt it. 350 main seems big. What is your elevation? You may have an airleak in the intakes. Spray some carbclean around the carbs and make sure the idle doesn't change when running. Quote
banshee man Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 yep the idle is still out of whack right now, while its idling it sometimes just randomly revs very high and i just cant find the problem. Quote
shee4speed Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 I'm thinking you have an airleak in the intake boots somewhere. You don't have one of them so called boost bottles do you? While its idleing, spray some carb clean around the intakes and see where it idles up. Quote
banshee man Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 nope, i strongly dislike those boost bottles... but yeah ill give that a try and see what happens. thanks alot! Quote
jbooker82 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I would think you have a massive air leak to have a 50 Pilot in the stock carbs. The choak probably doesnt work because the pilot jet is richer than the choak. You pull the choak it leans it out. Quote
banshee man Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 ok i just checked the intake boots and there is no leak...any other suggestions? i put a lower pilot jet and it absolutely WONT idle. and if you just push the throttle in a little bit, the thing revs really high for some reason Quote
gumby6t9 Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 What carbs do you have on your shee? Other mods, etc... Quote
Paddleboy Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 make sure that you dont have your slides backwards. Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 yep the idle is still out of whack right now, while its idling it sometimes just randomly revs very high and i just cant find the problem. air leak!!!! do a leakdown test, 50 pilot jets are fucking huge. Where are you at on top of a damn mountain? whats your elevation Quote
jjn56 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 air leak!!!! do a leakdown test, 50 pilot jets are fucking huge. Where are you at on top of a damn mountain? whats your elevation Did you ever get your Idle working right? I have a similar problem and was curious. I just put mine together this weekend after a top end rebuild and it revs high at Idle also. Other than the new pistons the only change I made was carbon fiber reeds. I have LRD pipes, 280 mains, stock carbs, foam filter with lid, 1,500 elev. Also I'm leaking fuel. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 you have an air leak guaranteed it can be around the case or cylinders, but its leaking. Quote
jjn56 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Thanks, I'll check that out. There also seams to be less smoke and air coming out of the left pipe, would that give an indication to what side might have the air leak? Quote
