I might buy a banshee from my buddy at work. Its a 89 with a 01 motor and tranny, he said it has a 2 to 1 race carb. Race pipes and suspension and he said the motor has some more stuff done to it, I told him I will give him $1000 for it, what do you guys think? Is it a good buy?

Oh and btw I'm rick

I picked up my '05 on Monday the 16th (last Monday).

I payed around $4k. Thankfully with the economy not being that great I was able to talk him down, since he needed the money.

I love it. It's definately a badass toy.

I get a lot of compliments on it also...everyone respects a 'Shee.

I don't know what shape the one you're looking at is in, but hell if it's running $1000.00 is a steal.

You can't buy much with $1,000 these days.

Definately take it for a spin and see how she runs, and how you like it.

for $1000 you will be able to put some coin in repairs (if needed) and still not be out much, sounds like a steal. I ride an '89 also and it is still a sweet ride!

buy it, worst thing that could happen is you could make a few hundred off parting it out... i have an 89 as well, kinda turned into a parts bike but i payed 1300 for it 8 years ago.

Sounds like a great deal.

That picture above looks like a herd of shee's grazin' in the sand, but not sure if they want to cross that asphalt shee-guard to get to the other side............... :yelrotflmao:

well i got her today, i dont have any pics but i got some info off of her,

it has a Vforce 3 intake ? (or maybe thats something else)

Keihin carb

YPVS heads

toomey T5 pipes

not sure if its the brand name but comp adj front and rear suspesion

i guess the motor was rebuilt a few years back and punched 30 over and had the heads shaved.

and i drove it all day today and it has thiis power band thing.

when i gave it full throttle it went like a bat out of hell and then all of a sudden it was like it got a 150 shot of nitrous. i had to let off of it cuz it was pulling me back so much

another thing,

its pretty hard for me to start it, maybe im doing it wrong, i put the choke on the carb on and kick it with full throttle, i tried just giving it acouple flicks with the gas and then kicking it but it still took forever to start.

am i doing something wrong? lol

oh and what is the oil mixture for the gas? i put 32:1 but it smokes alittle.

all in all the bike needs paint and new front plastics but it runs solid.

i will get pics up this weekend.

peace.

As for the hard start. Start with a compression test. May be low compression. I'd also clean the carbs out if it's been sitting. Mine sat for a while before I bought it and it took a few kicks to get it going. I cleaned the carbs, got the jetting set right and now it fires on one kick with no problems at all.

what do you recomend for cleaning the carb? just spray carb cleaner into it? and is their a jetting for dummies i can read? lol

NO, don't do that. Take the carbs off the bike. Take the float bowls off of the bottom of the carb. Remove the splash gaurd, remove the main and pilot jets, spray everything down with carb cleaner. Spray in any passages, make sure that your jets are not clogged or anything like that. Clean any gumming off of the slides and inside the carbs. Once you tear into in you'll see what I mean. I like to get a shoe box for eash carb so I don't mix the parts up from side to side. You may even want to look into getting a couple carb repair kits from the dealer. They run about $15. Just be sure to use the right jets for your mods as the repair kit comes with stock jets.

If it has a YPVS head it might be an RZ350 conversion. So your cylinders have a large round cover on the sides up near the exhaust?

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. T5's are a good pipe. With your head shaved you will have higher compression. I would definitely do a couple things before you ride it too much... check your jetting. Do some reading on here in the sticky threads and you can find how to read your plugs. Also do a compression test and see where you're at to be sure you don't need to run some kind of mix with race gas to prevent detonation.

32:1 is a good ratio to run your oil at. It depends on what oil you use. If its a good synthetic oil 40:1 to 50:1 is ok, if its a cheap crapo oil then you will want more.

Sometimes they can be a pain to start. Try just using the choke without holding it WOT and see if its any easier. We usually just choke it and just barely touch the throttle. It could also be a jetting issue thats making it hard to start. Its hard to tell. There are a million things that will make these things hard to start. Its kinda the nature of the beast. Once you get it used to it and figure it out you will love it.

Take good care of it, change your engine oil regularly, use good gas with good oil, grease your suspension parts regularly, keep your chain tensioned... keep it clean and it will thank yourself for it when you have to work on it. Don't get all upset if it stops running one day, just jump on here and tell us what the symptoms are and we can all help you get it running again. They are cheap to rebuild, and the aftermarket for these bikes is huge.

Welcome to the HQ.

If its got the YPVS head, it is an RZ conversion, that is worth some coin. If if feels like there is no bottom end, but hauls ass up top, the powervalves may not be functioning. You got a great deal if it is in fact an RZ shee
