1fastmofo Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Can someone help me to identify the manufacturer of this head? The aren't any markings on it at all. I went riding at Moses Lake (first time out on the bike, since I broke my wrist 5 weeks ago) and blew both the inner and outer O-rings in both cylinders. That'll teach me to go riding in 96 degree weather without checking the coolant level. Also, correct me if I am wrong but I think that the head is shot. There is a 0.65mm gap at the top of each dome where the dome meets the housing. Quote
HammerShee99 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 It looks like a Modquad to me, but that's strange that it doesn't have the Modquad logo stamped on it. Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Was it Modquad or a different company that started making heads and at first didn't engrave their name on the heads...............? Quote
1fastmofo Posted May 22, 2008 Author Report Posted May 22, 2008 I just called Mod Quad and sent them a copy of the pictures and they said that for a standard bore stroker motor that I should be fine as long as I use the inner O-rings and everything sits flushon the cylinders. If I went to a big bore motor, then I would have problems. They said that it did look like a Mod Quad head, but he could not remember ever producing one without markings. I guess that I will buy a mod-quad O-ring kit, button her back up and do a compression test to make sure that everything is good. Should I do a leakdown test also? Since I am already doing this, I assume that I should go ahead and put in a billet impeller. Correct? Also, which coolant should I be using Engine Ice, Water Wetter or something else? I ride 90% sand, 10% everything else, never ride anywhere close to freezing temps and shee is always kept in a garage, so the temps should never get to freezing. Quote
Washburn Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 IDK is it me or do you all see how that head is warped. It surely does look like a Mod Quad head though. Ive heard engine ice is better for running in heat but I use the 50/50 stuff cause I ride in some cold shit and engine ice only has a capasity of like 35* Quote
dajogejr Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Put straight water in, you'll be fine. Those don't look like stroker domes, but they are small bore domes. I would slowly and lightly bend that piece back. Funny...by the subject of this thread, I thought it was about Firehead getting drunk in his college days sitting behind a glory hole.... Quote
jbooker82 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Those don't look like stroker domes, but they are small bore domes. I was thinking they looked like Big Bore domes. They dont have the ouside lip that makes a complete groove. Maybe that is why your having sealing problems. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 WOW...now that I'm looking at the pic closer, you might be on to something. Can you tell us if there is a metal ring on the outside of the dome, kinda hard to see from those pics. If the outer edge seals against the head itself, and Not the dome...that is your problem. You will smoke another Oring in no time. Small bore domes the Oring sits and seals on the dome itself. Big bore, as noted, seals between the lip on the dome and the shell of the head... Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 looks like a bog bore dome to me. looks like the o ring goes on the outside of the dome. Quote
1fastmofo Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 I pulled one of the domes. There is a lip about two mm in from the outer edge that goes all the way around the dome. The O-ring sits on that outer edge. I checked the bore on the cylinders and they are 64mm. I checked the inside edge of the lip in the dome and it is also 64 mm, so the lip in the dome sits flush up against the cylinder. I am half convinced that I should just scrap the head and get either a noss or a pro design head. Was just trying to avoid the $250.00. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 good idea. sounds like this head is being trouble. you dont need anymore trouble with a banshee motor. you get an HQ discount with NOSS. pm him here at "dlnoss".. Quote
1fastmofo Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 Sweet. I will have to PM him as soon as I get paid. Can't wait to get it back together. Is there anything else that anyone would suggest since I already have it apart and have to replace the fluids? Quote
bonbon Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Funny...by the subject of this thread, I thought it was about Firehead getting drunk in his college days sitting behind a glory hole.... I thought he still did that for a little fun and some side cash? Quote
