hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I have a new gasket and the head and jugs are clean.. It leaks from the middle in between the jugs.. anyone got a solution or had the same problem?? Thanks in advance.. Quote
00tbanshee Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 are you putting the gasket on the right way?also make sure your torguing the nuts in the right order.if all said and done and still is leaking might be the head is warped Quote
hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 yeah gasket was the right way.. when I torqe it do I tighten each nut all the way or is it a little at a time? Quote
ohiobanshee Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 If it is leaking between the cylinders it is probibly the water hose fitting on the bottom of the head. Quote
hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 i dont think that is it.. I looked at it leaking and it looked like it was from the left side.. the thing is I did not start it up or even crank it. so there was no extra pressure.. warped head?? I did detonate a piston with this head... what is the best way to check that? place it on something flat I would imagine right?? lol but I got it milled after the piston meltdown.. Quote
ohiobanshee Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I had one that was shaved alot,it leaked from the water fiting. I put some sealer between the gasket and head, let it set up about 15 minutes then tightened it down, leak stoped. Quote
hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 the water fitting? again I dont think thats where it is coming from.. is there a greater chance of leakage when the head is milled Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 You tighten down each head bolt a little at a time, but are you sure they resurfaced it for you because it sounds like a warped head............... Quote
hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 well when they mill it isnt that the same? I have another head I guess I could try.. ?? Quote
Isaac_62 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Spray your gasket down with some copper spray which they sell at an auto parts store. I used that on my head. Stuff works awesome. Might stop your leak also.. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I have a new gasket and the head and jugs are clean.. It leaks from the middle in between the jugs.. anyone got a solution or had the same problem?? Thanks in advance.. I shouldn't leak without starting the motor... Have the head and the tops of the cylinders checked for flatness. Quote
hollisatp Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 what is the best way to do that? I matched it up to the other head and it looks ok? Quote
dajogejr Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Unless you're eyes are good enough to spot .002 to .005 gaps...LOL... get a surface plate. Or any other flat, steel object. get a wet/dry sandpaper piece, 400 to 600 grit. Move the head (take the back elbow off) in a figure 8 motion over the paper on the block for 10 to 20 seconds. Wipe off the gasket surface, check it. If you can see fresh scratches/sanding over ALL of the gasket surface, you're done. Otherwise, repeat. Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 for torqueing I like to set the gauge on the lowest setting and then do the order untill it clicks. My lowest is 5lbs and then I go to 10 and then the next. Quote
