350BANSHEE350 Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 sup, as some might have seen my how to take a link out thread, well since it was ending up to be to short i had to return the chain back to normal length, now with that said, i have the chain as tight as it will go, i measure 1 inch of travel in the chain, when pulling it upwards, the manual says .5-.8 of an inch of play, is this little .2 of an inch going to hurt anything, like i said taking a link out makes it to short so this is the only option i have, i have a case saver to BTW just throwing it out there Quote
chevrolet banshee Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 If it makes you feel better i keep about 2" of slack in my chain with out me sitting on it, and i don't ratchet it or brake a like very often. well i have never broke a chain but i have broke master links. Chevshee Quote
FireHead Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 One inch of play is reasonable on the undriven (bottom) run of chain. Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 no i am talkin the top of the chain, i dont know if it is different on the bottom, i was thinkin about putting a bigger bottom roller on it to tighten it up a little? Quote
FireHead Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 no i am talkin the top of the chain, i dont know if it is different on the bottom, i was thinkin about putting a bigger bottom roller on it to tighten it up a little? 1" is fine on the top at static tide height (with you sitting on it). If you have 1" without you on it, then it is probably too much. I bigger roller isn't a good answer. Why can't you adjust is properly? Quote
dajogejr Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Firehead knows all about 1 inch of play...listen to him. I do too, my pecker is so short i piss on my nuts! Quote
375hp banshees Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 lol FYI. you can also get A 1/2 link (1-1/2 link) you usually have to order them but... Quote
black sunshine Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 You can also hog out the adjustment slots on the carrier and buy some longer studs at the hardware store with acorn nuts to turn'em. This will help but probably won't get you where you need to be. Quote
NYUK Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 ADD A TOOTH TO EITHER SPROCKET. depending on what gearing you want to run.the bike i have , the adjustments were all the way out. with a lil more slack than i like. i put a 15 tooth front on. problem solved. Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) well i took off the 14 tooth front sprocket with a 13, tightend the chain all the way and it wont go any tighter, i want to low end because i have huge heavy rear tires, where could i get a half link? i dont see how that would work? ill go measure again, but its not saggy lookin EDIT, took a better measure ment and its 3/4 and 1mm of play Edited April 9, 2008 by 350BANSHEE350 Quote
NYUK Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 THERE are half links available, but you gotta know what kind of chain you run and if your manufacturer makes them 520. why not just go up a tooth or 2 or 3 in the rear? Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 because i dont have the money to buy a new rear sprocket, but i found out that the chain is at spec play so its all good now, i am on crack Quote
