riderofthestorm Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 When i was ridin down a back road it started running like it was out of gas and died, switched to reserve and it backfired out the left side and would try to run when i kicked it . changed plugs and still the same. Got it home and cleaned carbs good and put it back together and i got the same results, did a compression test on right side it was 135 and the left was 119-120, so i took the head off and i could see carbon marks between each water jacket and the dome on the left side of the head. rings and pistons and cylinders look perfect, so are my symptoms due to a blown head gasket possibly a warped head?? it's a stock head, thanks in advance guys Quote
00tbanshee Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 it could be a blown head gasket but if you seen those carbon marks there i would think it would of built pressure in the coolant system and would of been pushing coolant out the over flow.you can try the gasket but i would say that its electrical or check the reeds for cracks Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 probably just time to replace the head gasket. i really doubt it did anything to your head. id just throw a new gasket on and see what happens. Quote
shee rips Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 my head gasket blew on the right side, towards the rear water jacket. it was burnt looking where it was leaking. it was obvious though, becauser of the storm of steam following me down the trail, and every five minutes (every clean looking creek i came to) it took like a liter to fill up the rad. sounds like electrical maybe. do you still have tors? does it idle? riderofthestorm Posted February 9, 2008 Author Report Posted February 9, 2008 i did blow a radiator hose the day before, the small upper one on the right of the radiator(not the overflow), and i did have coolant leaking out the overflow before and after,, yes tors is removed, so it wouldn't run with a blowed gasket? BigRed350x Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 You might also have a lean condition thats making it get hot and burn up your coolant. I'd do the head gasket first, then double check your jetting. Quote
00tbanshee Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 i blowed one before and it ran fine but would just push coolant out after just alittle time of riding. Quote
shee rips Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 mine ran just fine with the blown head gasket. if you still have the stock impeller that could be why its getting hot. that was my problem. did you run it without refilling the rad? that wouldnt have helped if you did Quote
