Dgrey Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Is this how the tool works? am I doing it correct? Im trying to install a ricky stator. Quote
Dgrey Posted August 4, 2007 Author Report Posted August 4, 2007 When I do finally get off (after someone tells me how to use this tool) do I need to put it back together in any certain way or position? Im sure the bolt holes will line up. It has an adjustable timing plate on the stator, but im setting it to 0 because I have a 3+ timing key already. Quote
fck4strokes Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Thats how it works man just make sure the outer "reverse threads" are seated as far down as possible some people hae problems with them stripping I personally never have. Then tighten the inner bolt all the way down till the flywheel comes loose I normally use an impact it makes it alot easier process. The flywheel only goes on one way. Hope I helped you Quote
bonbon Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Yes it's on there right. And make sure that you have the threads in the flywheel buried until it is tight with a wrench, or you might strip it all out and still have the flywheel on. Quote
Matt96shee Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Is this how the tool works? am I doing it correct? Im trying to install a ricky stator. put a dab of grease on that bolt before you go hitting with the impact! once you're ready to put the flywheel back on just zip it down with the impact. if your are using an impact you can get a buddy to hold the flywheel. pay attention to the orientation of the key when you get the flywheel off too Quote

My bike has a timing key that advances the timing 3 degrees. Does that timing key come off when i take out the stock stator? Meaning is it still attached somewhere? I have no clue where it is located and I have looked all around in there. I want to leave the timing key in at plus 3 degrees and set the timing plate at zero. Please provide info! Quote
Matt96shee Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 here's a pic of where the timing key is at...this pic is from the case splitting post BigRed350X made a while back. the key goes in the snout of the crank. Quote
peak-j Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 I would recommend using a torque wrench when putting the flywheel back on. Quote

Get rid of that 3 deg key. You see how yours is off set? They can sheer off because they are thinner. Just get a stock key and use the plate to set the timing. Quote

Just get a stock key and use the plate to set the timing. That makes sense. The stock keyway is much stronger without a step milled in it. Quote
jet mech Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 i would agree use the plate to set your timming not that key also use a 1/2" drive impact a 3/8 does not get it tight enough i thought it would and my flywheel came of on my test ride "SCARY" Quote
FasterThanU90 Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 i would'nt recommend using a impact on ur flywheel it can throw ur crank out of true Quote
