GFB Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Like the title states. Previous owner said it's got a new white clutch and crosscut gears. What does this do for me? All I know is the thing is a biyotch to get into neutral lol. Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Are you sure he didn't say straight cut gears..............? If so, then these are usually put into trannies with higher horsepower bikes to allow better shifting due to increased stress on the tranny. If you are having trouble hitting nuetral with the engine running you may think about getting your shift star modded. When I put mine back in, I could hit nuetral with the engine running............. Quote
GFB Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 Are you sure he didn't say straight cut gears..............? He said the gearbox was rebuilt with "crosscut gears." Maybe that's what he meant. The engine was rebuilt with some go fast goodies. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 yea i havent heard of cross cut... just stright cut and normal angled gears.. Quote
BenBB Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 There's also "backcut" gears, where you grind off 3 of the 6 engagement dogs...supposedly preventing the gears from "skipping" (where the engagement dogs ride each other instead of engaging) and missing a shift... Quote
HotCarl Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 They are similar to regular fries, but he are seasoned and cost more. Quote

The gears that go onto the back of your clutch basket and crank are straight cut instead of angled cut...like this: http://webforce.nwrain.net/founder/cascade...ORE_DEPT_ID=339 Quote
GFB Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Well hopefully I never have to tear into it and find out exactly what he was talking about. Quote
camatv Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 i think this is a very simple to answer question is the banshee a bad arse?? is it a drag motor that was profesionally built? big carbs big port special head sweet reeds override locker at least a high hp motor?? if NO then the guy that you bought it from may have heard some BS and dosen't know what he is talking about.. straight cut gears are usually saved for high hp motors +90 hp they actually take the stress off of the main crank bearing on that side. think about it with angled gear sets they are constatly "pushing out" on each other and that causes a lot of stress on a big motor.. so if this is a run o the mill banshee pipes jeted couple bolt ons i really doubt it has straight cut gears also they cost about 390 bucks + install they have to be put on your basket unless you buy the hinson spring loaded basket/ straight cut gear set.. ( if you dune race HARD or have ever broken your bolts out of the back of a basket you NEED one..) Quote
mouse Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 i have snaped the bolts for the gear that goes on my basket at the end of the summer and tore the engine apart and cleaned it up. i need to get a new basket becouse it got messed up. I am getting the hensen basket now what you are saying is i need to get the straight gears Quote

It was a pit quad for a race crew and a lot of stuff has been done to it, but he did not have the build sheet from when the top end was redone, but it was redone with a prof port/polish. This is the first quad I've owned so I'm kinda new to the scene, but I know it's a lot faster than any other quad I've rode. I know that isn't saying alot comparing a banshee to most but the only other machine that has freaked me out this much during a first time ride was a gixxer 1000. Quote

I am getting the hensen basket now what you are saying is i need to get the straight gears if you need a new basket go with the magnum. its pretty much identical tothe hinson and costs a hell of a lot less. i think they are right around 150 bucks. if you replace the basket id replace the inner hub and the pressure plate too. you can get all that stuff from FAST at good prices. 1-785-364-5325 give jeff a call.
