J-Madd Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Since I'll have my motor apart to build a 421 Cub, I've been reading about the infamous Duneable override. Does anyone sell this with a core charge where I can install it and then send them my stock transmission? Or is this something that has to actually be installed by the pros? I've got a lockup and modded shift star going in. I actually had no trouble shifting my 392 Cub at all with a stock transmission, shift star, F.A.S.T. clutch w/out lockup, so if the duneable override has to be machined from my stock parts I'll probably pass. I don't want to wait a couple months or whatever if it's not a necessity. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I "think", don't quote me on this, but you send your stocker in as a core and they send you an override that has already been cut, I don't think you actually get yours back...Best way to find out is call one of the people selling them. I picked up mine used so I didn't have to mess with sending a core transmission. Quote

locogato11283 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 ive sent 1 to dave moore racing and 2 to redline racing..both times they wanted the bottom case and the whole tranny. i got my own parts back that had been cut. both dave and cameron have machnes they use to test the trannys after they cut them. this is what i would do if you want a duneable. call redline, im sure he can do it in a reasonable amount of time... dajogejr Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Some people do enough to keep 'em on hand, some will just want your core to cut. Depends on the shop. I sent Jeff @ FAST my core and got back a whole new drum, gear set, etc. (Not new...different, sorry...) I've looked at a normal 1-5 cut trans and dunable 1-5 cut...not much difference in the cut of the actual gears. It's in the springs, really.... Quote
djackbanshee Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Anyone knows where to cut a dunable override? I would like to try my own since no one makes these in canada and shipping one and back to the states would be a crazy price..... Quote

BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 I've been putting springs and some other stuff in my transmissions for a long time now and I was so pissed off that I didn't pattent the ideas I came up with before all this dunable override nonsense started. When I first started hearing about them I got one from a friend who got one and a lot of the crap they do to them was the same sorta stuff I had been doing. I was so mad. LOL! Oh well. I still have some stuff I've done to my transmissions I haven't seen anyone else do yet. Garuntee mine shifts a LOT smoother than most other banshees out there. He He He! There's people who have ridden ol blue over on dunereview who would attest to that too. Quote

Id prolly send mine off to ya, and im sure most of the HQ would too! Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 so why dont you set the price for a smooth shifter tranny?? Id prolly send mine off to ya, and im sure most of the HQ would too! Because a lot of the stuff I do is a huge pain the ass getting it just right, and there's a lot of stuff I just kinda happened upon messing around back in the day. It would be difficult to make every one the same with any kinda serious QC. I wouldn't want to market it if I couldn't confidently repeat it for every person. I wouldn't want one guy to have something better than the next guy. Until I can do that, its just something I am going to do for myself and a select few of my riding buddies. Its just a lot of work getting everything aligned straight in there and getting it to work the way it does. Right now its just one of those things that I do that gives me that little edge over the next guy and I kinda like just being one of the only people out there who has it done to my ride. Ol blue had it done, but I removed most of the parts that I use in my transmission when I sold it to "theshee" here on the board. I did leave the shift drum and gears and that stuff in there though, so he's got the start of the package. He's a good friend of mine and I'm thinking about hooking him up with the rest of the package since we have his cases split and waiting on parts. Plus I will be riding with him a lot this summer and he's a cool guy. We'll see. One thing I will tell you is that it all starts with an RZ transmission, not the banshee transmission. =) Quote
J-Madd Posted January 17, 2007 Author Report Posted January 17, 2007 Thanks for all the info. I'm still trying to decide what to do. Quote
