87banshee_rider Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 What do you think about a odyssey go cart that normally has a 250 in it and swap it out with a raptor 700 motor? I have an old odyssey and a raptor motor and some suspension parts from it and was thinkin of building a small sand rail. If i did some suspension upgrades on the odyssey i think it would be pretty sweet. Does anyone think this would be really hard to do? Quote

Does anyone think this would be really hard to do? i once owned a street bike with the odyssey 250 motor. i would recomend keeping that motor. just buy some upgrade parts for it. you can get some nice pipes for that motor. atleast i did for my street bike. have someone port it and work on the cylinder head as well. 87banshee_rider Posted November 25, 2006 Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 you dont think that the 700 efi motor will push way more horse power with a pipe and programmer already on it? I have no idea what that little 250 puts out for horsepower, i just bought it like a week ago Quote
Animalman294 Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Well, if ya got the motor and the ambition, put it in and let her fly.................... Quote
nomad Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 It sounds good to me. Back in the day I had several friends with Odyssey's and they were lots-o-fun. I own a Grizzly 700 and I think the power plant is nice. I'll always love the sound of a 2 stroke, but the EFI motor is a nice feature and you can put around without loading up. Keep us updated if you decide to do the swap. Quote
csrmel Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 ijust thought it would be more work to put the 700 in than it would be to port and pipe the 250. if i remember correctly, the 250 has about 25hp stock. put some port work into it, a good pipe, maybe a carb and you could see over 50hp. the odyssey also has a variable belt and pulley system like a sled right? im SURE you could get a high stall pulley system, and then you would aways have power right when you need it. STLBILL Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 How many Odysseys were made? I think they rebranded it as the Pilot after a short hiatus. I sure do not see many on the trails. Any chance in hell these things are rare and restoring it as stock might be worth something too? I know you guys hate that stock word... If nothing else maybe you can convince some very confused family it's a mini-van... Quote
STLBILL Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 You should talk to these guys. They are debating the modified Rhinos against a modified Pilot. It would be interesting to see how they would view a hybrid of the two... At least I think a Rhino has a Raptor engine in it. Maybe the utility version of the big bore, but still similar. sam97 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 At SIlver Lake one year I saw an old 250 odyssey with an R6 engine and a 250R swing arm style rear. It was sweet, but I also saw it on eBay about 3 months after...... In other news, I have a 1977 250 Odyssey that I restored when I was in jr. high. Mine has custom paint (black with intense blue fenders), a Goki electric start kit, ALuminum gravity feed tank, aluminum wheels, etc... It runs good, and is pretty reliable. It is stock engine wise, but will still throw dirt pretty well. It is currently for sale at $1000 firm in Detroit. I would keep it, but I need the garage room. Just figured I would throw that out there. Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 id put the 700 motor on it... Quote
IROOST1 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I have the ever rare 350 oddysey. That thing pulls wheelies like no one business. Just keep it stock, there arent many left and if its in good condition, its worth more money than it was new. Also, performance parts are cheap for them. Port it, have the head done, bigger carb, new pipes, and they gooooooooooooo!!! Quote
87banshee_rider Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 Thanks for all the support guys! If i do decide to change it out ill keep you updated. should rip like crazy if i get it to work. I might turn it into a two seater to but that undecided so far Quote

IROOST1 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 i had a 350 and it was piped and had a performance carb and open intake. had tons of power. i would keep the stock motor in it, just mod it. it will be worth a lot more in stock condition. and dont throw any stock part away. they are very valuable. Ruko Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 (edited) This isn't an Odyssey but it's kinda the same... it had a Kohler 740cc v-twin in it when I got it but it didn't have much power... I am just in the process of putting a Rotax 583 in it now... should haul ass when it's done. I'm just waiting to get the radiator back from the shop... hope to be riding it by next weekend. Before... now... Edited July 22, 2007 by Ruko Quote
