jlsparky7 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 If I am going to store my banshee for the winter is there something I should run throught the cards/motor to keep it fresh for spring? Get some fuel stabilizer Quote
firefighterjosh Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 Well it will be off the ground in the corner of the barn with a tarp on it. Thinking of this. (this is the first winter I wont be riding it) Drain all the gas. Maybe put a little oil down the spark plug to keep a lubed top end. Fill the bottom end all the way with oil. (make sure I drain it in the spring.) Quote

No offense sparky, but I have seen fuel with Stabilizer turn to gunk too. I don't like the stuff. I would just take the carbs apart and clean them real good before putting them up for the winter. Animalman294 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I just run the tank down to reserve and shut the fuel off, and let it run 'til it drains the fuel out of the bowls. Then at least once a month I will take it, and put like a half gallon of fresh fuel in it and run it around a while until I hit reserve again and then take it home turn the fuel off and drain the bowls again. Seems to work good for me, plus it helps get through the winter blues when I get my shee fix................. Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I might be the only one to do this, but I've always fogged my motor before winter. Its commonly used on boats but works on all motors. It coats everything...carbs, cylinders, pistons, and exhaust. I've been useing the Yamaha 2 stroke engine fogging oil spray for years with great results. It protects against rust and pitting or other oxidation. I do some other things like treat the gas, change all fluids, etc...air up the tires and put a piece of carpet under the shee to keep the cold and moisture from coming up through the concrete. Here in Michigan, we see winters as bad as any (in the US) and after sitting for a good three months shee starts up in three kicks every spring no prob. Tip for all you guys keeping your shee in a barn or outside  Put a little steel wool in the ends of the pipes and cover the intake with something that critters won't eat through. A couple friends have had mice make nests in their machines, even caused a fire in a sled. He was lazy and never checked his ZR700 before heading up for a trip, and a chipmonk built a nest in his exhaust can. He found out when flames were coming out from under the hood. Just a little insurance  Quote
blak banshee Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 just curious, why do you guys all put them away in winter. I have a blast riding all around public roads when it snows here. Im actually looking forward to the winter. Quote
STLBILL Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 (edited) I agree. If you want something to winterize and de-winterize buy a PWC. EDIT: And... It is cooler in the hot summer days. You get to see women in bikinis or less. Great excuse to get women in bikini's or less. No tickets for riding on the highway. No tires, brakes or shocks to replace. No helmet to buy You can blow through way more gas than any 'Shee. It is easy to piss off boaters. P-a-r-t-y C-o-v-e Et Cetera... csrmel Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 i like to run it out of gas. then i pull the fuel line and squirt an ounce of 2 stroke oil right into the fuel lne which drips down into the carb bowls coating the needle seat, jets, floats, etc. then i kick it over a bunch of times while squirting oil down the intake. next time i fire it up it smokes pretty good considering the ammount of oil thats in the carbs, but it clears up within a minute or 2. i do this for all engines that i dont plan on running for more than a few months. oil is a engines friend during storage. JET 99 Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 the winter is still a good time to ride, just bundle up and give em hell. i love to play when its shitty out. no one is really outside in the neighborhood, so its nice just to be able to come out of the garage, hit the street and go at it. in the summer i only get it out 1 time a week so i dont piss anyone off.(around the neighborhood). i dont go apeshit with it until i get out into the back were there are no houses built. i guess i dont see why you stop riding it in the winter. to each there own.. jim Quote
