Bunny771 Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 Hey, I just recently removed my rear axle and im having a hell of a time removing the nutz. Is this regular threaded or reverse? Is there any easy tools besides the ones you buy for 30$+ that are possible to use? And does heating it make a difference? If you could give any other tips i would be most grateful. Thank you Quote
wesw Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 get some one to step on teh brakes, while you get a big ass cresent wrenceh with a 6ft cheater pipe usually will break them lose. when putting them back on some loctite should be used to keep them snug. Quote
CHAWAWA Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 heat the nuts with a torch, cause locktite should have ben used, this will liquify the locktite and allow you to loosen the nuts Quote
Bansh88 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 A buddy had a hard time with his. He used a 4' helper bar. Quote
odaen Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 A buddy had a hard time with his. He used a 4' helper bar. when you get those things off pitch them in the garbage and buy an aftermarket one. that and a round carrier swingarm are 2 of the best improvements you can make to keep your chain tight and skin on your knuckles. BigRed350x Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Agreed, go roundhouse, I will never go back. I just use a little pipe wrench and smack it with a hammer a couple times and it has always broken them lose for me. Quote
Banshee_19 Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 while we are on the topic of axle nuts, I as well have my axle out of my quad right now and am unable to find the proper tool for the nuts from my dealership. I used a pipe wrench to take them off. I was wondering how do you tightne your axle nuts so that you do not have any play and so that they are not to tight against the bearings? Quote
wesw Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 i tightened the first nut up very tight so there was no play and you could turn the axle ok. if you too tight i think it will push the rotor against the pads and cause brake drag. and then locitite is applied and then the sec nut and tighten the bejesus out of it. BigRed350x Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 What you are supposed to do is tighten the first one down like wesw said, then put the second one at like 75ft-lbs then you are supposed to tighten the first one backwards against the second one. Something like that. I never do it that way, I just loctite them both pretty tight and don't worry about it. Hasn't failed me yet. Quote
