00ultraz28 Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 what exactly does modfying the shift star do... is it worth having it done Quote
platinumjason Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 The stock shift star has pointy ends on it, what people do to modify them is round them off and that allows it so shift easier and smoother, well worth having it done. Quote
00ultraz28 Posted June 17, 2006 Author Report Posted June 17, 2006 is it easy to screw it up if you've never done it... I'm mechanically incline and if all i need to do is round the edges off I'm sure I could do it rather than having to have down time for sending it off and having to pay for it to be down Quote
Satsol67 Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Do a search on it i have seen someone post a pic on how it looks before and after. From what i have read it makes shifting easyer and finding nutral easyer. Quote
BdBanshee Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 (edited) You can easily round the peaks of the star, but you will need a vertical milling machine and a carbide end mill to backcut the neutral detent. Shift star Neutral Backcut Edited June 18, 2006 by BdBanshee Quote
pipebomb Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Stock one on top, Cascade's modified one on bottom. with the Modded one and the shift-Pro kit your bike will shift like butter. Quote

Hmm...I've been told by a few people either do the shift star OR the shift pro...not both. You're talking about the shift pro that is the arm with the larger roller on it, right? With a dremel and a file I hope you have time on your hands... I use a bench grinder with a stone, can be done in 5 minutes. Quote
00ultraz28 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Report Posted June 18, 2006 I can get ahold of a bench grinder no problem , but what about needing a milling machine to do the neutral like posted above Quote
dajogejr Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 I did my buddies and didn't do the nuetral back cut...works perfect for him.. I had boonman do my shiftstar. Actually...he had some already done...and it was pretty cheap just to buy a brand new, modded one...so, your call, either way... Quote

dajogejr Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 He cuts flywheels for a good price, as well... Quote
djackbanshee Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 i used a blaster roller . the wheel on it is bigger than stock kinda like the shift pro and its alot cheaper . i will try to get a picture up soon. Quote
rocketboy Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 i run the modded shift star and shift pro and straightr cut gears shifts slick like snot on a door knob (thats really good btw) i also lighten flywheels Quote
