ghostryder420 Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Hey I am about to buy some new tires and wheels for the rear of my bike and Im thinkin of getting 22" tires for the added ground clearance. I ride mostly rough terrain trails, mountains, some fast trails. How are taller tires gonna affect my gearing? Currently I have stock gearing and tires, and I have a 13t sprocket waiting to be installed but I am going to wait until I replace my tires first, then mess with sprockets. Anyone got advice? Thanks Quote
BenBB Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Your gearing will be taller with the 22's, going to a 13T front will get you back pretty close. I think this spreadsheet is still online, just change the shaded cells and look at the top speeds in each gear... http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/speed.xls Quote
BURKE_DADDY Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Heres a gear calculator just put in the sprocket sizes and tire size and it will give you your top speeds in all the gears. gear calculator Quote
batoutofshell Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I like that 14/41 I have 22" tires in the rear. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 should have no problem pulling the 14 front with your mods, but you are gonna lose alittle on the bottom but it will be faster on the top end, if it bogs out of corners I would drop it down but try it first you might like it. Quote
Blue Duece Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 22's will ride like shit on the trails though, you might hook a pinch better but you dont want the ass end taller than the front, you will just plow into bearms then pogo like a son of bitch, how about some nice low profile 20's and a decent shock? steveodo Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Yea blue duece has got a good point. i wouldnt want my tires all the same size. Quote

Wait your losing me... whats gonna happen? Could you explain that again? I want the taller tires for the ground clearance. But if its gonna screw up my handling then i'll stick with the 20's. I have full skid plates so ground clearance isnt that much of an issue, but it would be nice for water and shit. Quote
