my sons banshee was leaking oil, so we thought it was the side cover. we changed the gasket and put new oil in it, but next time he road it we noticed oil coming from the vent tube.thats probaly where it was leaking from the first time.what would cause this? thanks.

too much oil it only holds 1500 cm thats 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 quarts

I run 2qts of oil in mine...how much did you put in?

1-1/2 quarts, and its not showing on the dip stick now. it was showing full when we filled it.

I had the same problem and was looking at all the diiferent things it could be. It happened to me right after my rebuild like 4 days ago. Look for the simple stuff first, mine ended up neing that i ran a vent hose through a clamp and tightened the clamp down, I chased it down and now it runs fine. Check for the simple little stuff first, make sure the lines aren't clogged

Usually happens because your tranny fluid heats up so much it boils over. But the couple times I saw that is was from neglect.(not changing tranny fluid for ever) It's hard for me to see how a crank seal would make that happen, usually a leaky crank seal will suck the oil into the cylinders and spit it out the exhaust. I wonder if maybe your clutch is slipping real bad causing a lot of heat. I would look for something causing major heat.

My nephews banshee was loosing fluid out the rear breather. It had a bug nest in it and the pressure would build up and push it out, then loose oil. We blew it out and no more trouble. Check the lines, could be plugged.

Had the same problem, mine was the crank seal clutch side.

Same deal with a buddy's Banshee, blown RH crank seal, puked oil like crazy out the vent tube and when he pulled that side pipe there was about half a quart of tranny oil in it...

 

Check for the simple little stuff first, make sure the lines aren't clogged

Definitely start with the little stuff first; lines, tees, etc.

just to clarify, what are you refering to as the vent tube?

There's a small 1/4" line that runs from the center rear of the motor (top case half right between the motor mount castings) forward to a tee (usually between the carbs); from the tee forward the line typically goes forward up and over a frame rail and ends above the right expansion chamber, from the tee down the line runs into the clutch cover near the radiator hose, to a little nipple just below the water pump (on RZ motors this is where the oil injection pump mounted).

 

Normally you don't ever have any oil in those lines, they just allow for air to be displaced from the tranny as the gear oil heats up and expands/cools off and contracts.
