well its pretty easy. what does a car have? turn signals, horn, brake light, head lights, dot approved tires...ohh wait theres a catch...you CANT do this in most states because it has to be a 3 wheeled vehicle at most. the one way to get around it is to change the rear end to use one wheel and tire. this will require a custom swingarm, axle setup, brake setup, sprocket and countershaft setup which will all cost you big bucks unless you are building them yourself. i think you should just leave the banshee alone and ride it in the woods and wherever else. use your car and a street legal motorcycle for road use...

i have seen street legal quads down here in south florida. some guy made conversion kits for the most popular quads which included everything you need to make them pass inspection. he also gave you instructions for a step by step process involving the dot and an inspection, resitration, insurance, liscence plate, etc.

i think he eventually went out of buisness. thats too bad, it would be a blast to have a street legal banshee.

I don't think a two-stroke sport quad like a banshee would make a good street legal vehicle even though it would be sweet seeing one ripping around city streets. Since you have to mix oil in your gas it would be a pain when you need to fill up. A banshee doesn't have a differential making it hard to turn on a paved roadway. But I would like to see someone try and do that but I just don't see the point.

see, the difference between me and u guys is i live in canada, where 3 wheelers are illegal, and 4 wheelers arent, i have seen it done, i know it possible to put a quad on the road, i jsut need these tires, i have everything else under controlbut i need soime d.o.t approved tires for my banshee wheels, or i need a huib that will allowe me to put street wheels on it! i know what i need, i know aht i need to do, i am just haveing ahard time with these tires... the one that has done itwont give me any info becasue hes a bastard and he wants all the money for himself!

ive already talked to the ministry of transportation, ive already talked to my insurance and ive already talked to my mechanic, all i need is some d.o.t approved tires.

im taking it to a performance show next weekend cuz they have some really good custom fabricators that say they can probably make a sort of hub that will allow me to use a regular street tire. so pretty soon if all goes well ill have dubs on my quad! now i would rather use a smaller tire to drive regullarly, but with dubs im cruiin to the beach and stealin all the ladies from those crotch rockets!

now somebody jsut please help me with these tires!

Exactly. Thats alot of stress on your axle and carrier bearings when you put grippy street tires on them. I'm sure there are some draggers here that will tell you how easy it is to steer a drag bike on pavement with slicks. My dune bike with knobbies can give me a hard time even. Can't imagine a street tire with all that leverage fighting me to go straight as I'm trying to turn.

Now if you could come up with something like a simple diff I think it could be done easier. There is a way to do it that I've thought of years ago, but cost prohibitive to even prototype. But basically you would have to make a sprocket hub that had 3 or 4 spider gears in it, then 2 ring gears, one on either side. Then you'd have to have a way to attach a shortened axle to each side in a way that it would be safe and stable. Basically make a scaled down rear end, but instead of a ring and pinion, its just your sprocket hub holding the spiders. :shrugani: Does that make sense? I don't work on cars so I don't know if it does.

all that need to be done with the rear end for ease of turning is dont run any wide grippy tyres. instead try some mini cooper size tyres. then you wouldnt have a problem turning.

i live in michigan and on my title it says in big bold print NOT TO BE REGISTERED FOR HIGHWAY USE. i looked into it and like said above, its because the rear axle doesnt have a differential and is therefor unsafe. i think it would be bad ass to be able to ride my banshee through the streets :bolt::headbang:

Search the internet. I know there are DOT approved quad tires. Maybe you can even get a set of DOT approved golf cart tires and rims that match your bolt pattern or redrill them to fit your lug pattern. Hope this helps.

u mean drill into my stock hubs..? i was thinking about that... drilling intoa stock hub, tapping in a few threaded bolts, and then weld them into place... that way i coiuld still use my stock rims for the trails and just use the other bolt patter for my street wheels... now what im wondering is if my hub will become weak or break? i think i would put a fdew support welds on the hubs,. just in case... but i think it could work! what do u think?

No I woudn't redrill the hubs (I doubt you could get a larger bolt pattern since the studs are already on the outermost part of the hub already). I was talking as if you got a set of golf cart rims and redrilled them to the Banshee hub pattern. I would pick up a set of DOT quad tires or DOT golf cart tires that will fit your rims. Maybe running skinnier trailer rims/tires would fit? Just measure the hub pattern and start looking around. I think thats your cheapest route (having special hubs made wouldn't be cheap and a set of "dubs" would be even more expensive). Good luck.
