Ls7colorado Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Just thought I would add to this, my buddy has a 450 also, pipe, cam, slight porting, and eldelbrock carb. He has stock gearing and we both had 18" tires on the back and with my bike BONE STOCK he would pull on me till I hit 3rd and then I just kept on pulling away. I didnt belive it but we raced 3 times with same results, The only advantage I have was that I am about 100lbs lighter than him. Quote
icecold_shee Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 i raced some honda 450s yesterday in a sand pitt that just got rained on the day before so i had decent traction. at first, i was racing a z400, 400ex, and a 450r, the only one that came close was the 450, he would pull out about a bike length on the holeshot, but when i hit 4th i was pullin away and then we ran out of room later on, i raced two more 450rs, both with a pipe and filter, a red and black one, the black was no competition at all, i dont think he could ride very good, but the guy on the red 450r, we were back and forth but i would alway pull away in the end Quote

I can't see anyway a stock Banshee will hang with a modded 450. If you figure the power to weight ratio, that 100 pounds is a huge difference, but still thought he would likely pull you. But he may be a crappy rider to boot and you're not. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Ive raced a grip of 450's and im yet to loose- though i can say ive have had my hands full a number of times Quote
banshee tuner Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 You are not going to have a problem with that dune port. A z400 is slow and the predator but a built yfz450 or 700 raptor is no joke. Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 I've had no problem with z400's, any of the yfz450's around here, or the one 700 I went up against. Spanked all of them once I hit 4th and 5th. The 700 and a couple 450's will pull on me out of the hole, but once I get on the top end there's no competition. If you want me see me race a z400 go download the second walden video I posted a while back. Shows you how slow they really are. Predators are also no competition. Quote
ssanddemon Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 What I have noticed after riding both the Honda and Yama 450s is this- steep sand chutes that I pull (several) gears running through on my baby have to be run in 2nd gear on the limiter on these bikes just to make it out at all. Yes, you can say that comparing a moddded shee to stock 450s is unfair, but the truth is that with equal engineering, a 450 will never spank a shee. For the most part, 4 strokes are built to be run in near stock form, otherwise longevity badly suffers. Any real gains come at the expense of titanuim exhaust valves, short skirted pistons, and thin cylinder walls for immediate heat transfer.- Oh wait, the 450s ALREADY have all these things and actually do need costly rebuilds every 50 to 100 hrs! Conversely, the shee is a functioning asthmatic until it gets pipes and at least a bit of port work. Don't get me wrong, the for-fiddies are a blast, but to really compare apples to apples, the new four strokes straight from the showroom have at least as much engineering toward performance as a moderately built shee. Therein should the comparisons be drawn- not that the 450s are fast, but that our poor little shee has been neglected for so many years while lesser designs have been propped up so far. Quote
Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Tip from me : dont try racing 450's with 18" rears and 8" rims on your banshee. Your race would turn around and they tend to pull away on top. I have experience. 465748 LOL YOU TOO AY ? i thought my banshee was blown when i did that i was like why the fuck is it going s0o slow so i put back my 21's and i was FLYING AGAIN walkin all over 450's Quote

I've ridden the Honda 450r and they are alot of fun and very torquey!, but I love the feel of my shee waaaayyyyy more! Not to mention the cost of rebuilding those 450's is outragious!!!!!! Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 no offense, but it looks like your geared for some big hills. if you had a 15 on the front you would do much better drag racing.I had no problems with built 450's before I was ported. 466073 Well, mostly I'm riding dunes, with some fairly steep grades, plus I've realized that most of the dune racing I do is much shorter (and possibly steeper?) than what many ride. The main dragging places around the dunes I ride are at most 200 yards (probably closer to 150 yds max), therefore coming out of the whole fast is more important than the top end pull you'd get with the 15. If those 450's jump you out of the hole, there just isn't enough distance to make it up on the top. At most I'll run through 4th; some of the 450 guys will come out in second, and possibly only one shift into 3rd at most, some not at all but they're usually running past the power. Quote
