rocketboy Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 by searching old threads ,some say the shift- pro is a waste and jumps outta gear ,some say the modifed shift star doesnt do much and some say that by doing both mods, itll mis-shift and shift by accident ,i want smoother faster reliable shifting without the concerns and expense of an over ride tranny (for now) what about cutting and /or modifying the gears reliably ? and places /prices for this Quote
brilei5 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I like the shift star mod. It shifts much easier. I think when poeple say it jumps out of gear what is happening is that with the mod, you dont have to put nearly as much pressure on it So, any little bump up or down on the shifter and it shifts like it should (right now). Where as before the mod you really need some pressure sometimes for it to shift, so you didn't have to be so concerned with bumping it a little bit.My .02. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 jeff over at fast has a couple of mods he does to the shifter shaft and a different spring for the shift star detent arm. you should give him a pm, not to much cash and it defenetly helps. Quote
BansheeGuy_IV Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Hiya, I have the shift pro, and a modified shift star, and a Yakkey shift drum that has the bearing. Together, just a light tap of the shifter and you get a very smooth "plink" into gear, almost like you're using a racheting tranny. It's ultra smooth. The drawback is that until I got used to it, I was missing shifts. I often shifted from first, right into neutral... Once I got a little practice... It was a big improvement over stock. Good Luck, BG Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I ran a modded shift star, RZ shift forks and drum, and gears with everyother engagement dog milled off. It shifted very smooth. The only thing that still sucked about it was the length of throw is so long compared to other bikes. shortenting the shifter helps alittle with this. I still have the gear sets if you want them. FadedDreams Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I have the same set-up as broke and rebelbanshee2 and it shifts so much better compared to stock. You can shift at full throttle no problem and not have to worry about it not fully engaging. Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Plus with the modded shift star you can actually find nuetral with the bike running....... Quote
bansheefreak Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 i had shift pro on my old banshee.. shifted nice and easy.. kinda pricey but worth it imo... Quote
rocketboy Posted January 22, 2006 Author Report Posted January 22, 2006 thanks guys.... these were the replys i was looking for Quote
lonestar Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I have shift pro never installed it. Next time I pull my basket off I'll try it. But I heard not to use the spring it comes with. Use yamaha stock spring. It works better. The reason I never installed it because the plate that the bearing is rivited to is about .030 thinner. It fits slopy to much play IMO. Plus my shift star has neutral notch deeper for stock roller, Thats why I never put it in. Quote
