MotulMonsta Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 So I grenaded my tranny and I need to replace everything inside it. Seems a screw sheared off my clutch basket gear and wreaked havoc on all my internals. So if I am to be replacing everything. Might as well make it better! I've heard of people changing their gear ratio's inside the tranny. I want to do this. Who makes these kits? Can I custom order the parts? Anyone have any good tranny parts they are looking to unload? I would like to get more speed out of the engine, Make first gear pull like second, since I never use 1st gear anymore, then smooth out the transition from 3rd to 4th and give 6th a little more pull. Has anyone modified their internals before? Who can give me some good advice BEFORE I sink too much moneyand end up with a hunk of crap and have to sink more moneyto fix it back to normal? Quote
FadedDreams Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I'm pretty sure the Rz has higher gear ratios, but i'm not sure if you could mix and match the ones you want.I've read that alot of the asphalt draggers use the RZ's 6th gear because of it higher ratio.Maybe someone else can chime in and help you better. GYTWYPT Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 I have an RZ tranny i would probably sell if you are interested let me know. I dont remember the exact ratio diffrences betweent the two. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 you can buy straight cut gears that go on the crank and the back of the clutch basket that will give you more top speed. http://rdzracing.com/RDZ_Racing_The_Home_o...erformance_.htm rdz is not the only place making these so look aound on the net and you should be able to find what you are looking for. locogato11283 Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 im pretty sure the rz tranny is a straight drop in. i am not sure about the gear ratio change tho. as for straight cut gears, i think you can get them in different ratios, but i dont think thats gonna do what u want. i would think that changing gear ratios on those gears could be done simply by changing your sprockets. sounds to me likeu need the rz tranny..maybe someone will step in who has an rz motor and let u know what the differences are. brock_fuzzy_69 Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 yeah at one time somebody listed the ratios for the banshee trans and the RZ it might be able to be found with a search but i am not sure the RZ also has a lot nicer shift drum and shift forks Quote
MotulMonsta Posted December 23, 2005 Author Report Posted December 23, 2005 Hey GYTWYPT, if the price is right, I'm interested. E-mail me [email protected]. For some reason, I can't find your E-mail address. I'm going to dig into this RZ tranny info! I wonder if Yamaha still makes parts for it. Right now I'm running a 13/42 gear ratio on 18 in tires.Great for the MX track. But the thing I don't like is the huge transition from 3rd to 4th, and 5th to 6th is barely noticable. I was running a 14/41 ratio a while back, but it felt sluggish on the track. I burn up clutches just so I can run the higher gear and have power out of the hole, pin the throttle wide open and use the cluch to control speed and power. Very abusive. But it's the only way to keep my speed up. I don't even feel the gears, most of the time I forget what gear I'm in, until I mess up and bog down, then I have to down shift like crazy to get it going again. And now that I'm starting to ride in the wide open desert, I CONSTANTLY am finding myself reaching for that 7th gear. Tapped out in 6th hitting whoops and just out right flying and finding the rev limiter, yet still it's not fast enough. In a straight line, both the Honda 450 and the YFZ in stock form are faster. I want to gear my tranny as a 5 speed and make 6th the overdrive. so when I'm tapped out in 5th, it's just as fast as a yfz, but then I got 6th and will pull away. Quote
brock_fuzzy_69 Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 damn guy a 13/42 combo is for wimps i am betting if you clock it on a 300 ft track it will be faster with a dif ratio like a 15/41 Quote
