northshore Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 im trying to put my topend back together, but the pistons wont go inside the jug, is there a special way to compress the rings, im trying to do it with my hands, but am having a hard time. thanks in advance! Quote
sand rocket Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Put a big zip tie on them, but feed the tie backwards so the it will come back off. Make sure the the ring is seated right on the little pin in the piston that hold it from turning Quote
Shee-Male Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 If the jugs a freshly honed, you may need to put a little chamfer on the bottom, otherwise they should pup in 1 at a time with your fingures, make sure it is the right ring (size wise) rare, but sometimes get packaged wrong. Quote
Joshtruction Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 what they said, or get a ring compressor. Quote
ad_stroker Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 put ur cylinders on top of the pistons, try to hold the rings and just like try to push the pistons upwards while ur holding the rings, it worked for me when i had a broken piston and had to change em' Quote
lastlegwarrior Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 press harder or hit it with a bigger hammer. Quote
northshore Posted December 1, 2005 Author Report Posted December 1, 2005 would it be a bad idea to put some premix oil on the rings and piston to help slide it in? Quote
sheefreak Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 would it be a bad idea to put some premix oil on the rings and piston to help slide it in? 443611 You are supposed to prelube your top end w/the same premix oil you will be running in the first place! I belive the instructions from your pistons even tell you that! Once you lube everything up, you should have no problem getting those pistons to slide into the cylinders w/just your hands. Quote
dawarriorman Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 press harder or hit it with a bigger hammer. 443589 No, this is the engine, it doesn't need a hammer. Hammers and engines don't go together. Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Make sure the split in the ring is lined up with the pin in the piston. I just use my hands and haven't ever had a problem. Quote

Ducman Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Like PUSH THE THROTTLE said, the piston should go into the cylinder pretty easy if you have the gap in rings lined up with the marks on the piston, otherwise they will not go into the cylinder and cause dammage if you try to force them. northshore Posted December 1, 2005 Author Report Posted December 1, 2005 thanks everyone, i think i just got a little impatient last night. this morning they sliped right on after i lined the rings up. thanks agian Quote
