I advanced my timing last week and went camping. both mornings the shee was hard to start. I had to kick it alot more than normal both mornings. I have good compression and the motor runs good its just hard to start cold. is this normal?

It's not normal. I'd say you didn't adjust the gap on your pick-up when you put it back together...now it's too far away.

On the stock timing plate there are two holes it bolts to right? On the timing plate I got, it had two holes in the same place, don't know if I can adjust that without driling out the holes. Or can it be adjusted some where else?

The bracket that holds the pickup is slotted ever so slightly allowing for the air gap to be adjusted. Ricky Stator says that it should be adjusted as tight as possible, but no tighter than .020". Mine was set at .032" from the factory so that is what I set mine back to. Just get a set of feeler gauges and you can set it in about 5 seconds. On the flywheel there will be two raised rectangular sections; just rotate one of these until it is lined up with the pickup and set accordingly. Stinger is right, this would not be normal, as he suggested my first suspicion would be the air gap, other possibilities would be less likely and more involved. Check there first.

I did not take it apart. all i did was turn the timing plate.

You should still check the gap even though you didnt remove it. If you dont have a feeler gauge just use a match book cover thats pretty close. Its really simple, just take the cover off that side of the case and check it, and if its off just adjust it. It should only take 5min to do.

Are you sure you advanced the timing? If you retarded the timing you will have a harder time starting it.

I turned the stator clockwise. I will check the distance on the pick up tonight after work, and I'll take it to the dunes tomorrow.
