how do i know if i have TORS or not. like i said, i don't remember it being there before i took it to the shop. i personally haven't done anything to the bike, i have no idea what has been done to it before me eaither. is there a way to fine out if i have tors or not? where would it hook up to?

yup you have the gayness(TORS), does it run fine the way it is?? if so then leave it unplugged...or for kicks and giggles warm up the bike so you know it will restart easily, and connect the plug, does it even start? or run above a high idle?? if plugging this in screws up your engine's running "capabilities" then unplug it again...my guess is the shop monkeyed with it and if it runs fine leave it unplugged, and if it won't start with it plugged in, i use it as a security device and plug it in when i'm not running the bike so nobody can start it without some major banshee know-how, good luck

well the thing is, i got it back from the shop without starting it there. i got home and tried to start it and it wouldn't start. i saw that thing hanging down and was wondering if that it why. but it only has a reach of about 5 inches in any direction and i can't figure out where it plugs into? and the shop said they started it a couple times to "break in" the motor, so i'm wondering how they started it if that was unplugged. i didn't try very hard to start it cuz it was still on the trailer tied down. but i thought it would start pretty easy now since it just got a new top end and stuff. so how would i get rid of the tors and what's the advantage of that?

I know you are new but why would you leave the shop after spending 600 and not here it run I would be calling them to your house to fix this one!!!!

i guess i'm just too honest, so i think everyone else is too. my mistake. they gave me instructions on how to break it in, the first steps were to start it and let it run for 10 minutes on idle then let it cool down and do that twice. they said they did that part. the rest like running 2 tanks of gas through it before you really get on it and stuff is up to me. they said they stand behind all their work and if i have any problems to just bring it back so i'm not worried about that. i'll mess with it tomorrow and see what happens or give them a call. anyone here live in the phoenix/mesa arizona area?

Off of the back of the big aluminum looking clunker TORS units on top of the carb. This will be right above the carb caps, you'll know it when you see it... there should be about a 6" or maybe 8" section of wires, usually covered by a black sheath, with a connector that fits the part you have hanging down (can't remember if the carb end of wire is the male or female connection. Anyway, find that section of wire, connect it to the section you have hanging down, and in theory as long as they haven't partially disconnected anything else you should be good to go. :D

ok well, i guess my bike was just flooded yesterday cuz when i got it from them they had left the gas on. i did call them today about that wire harness and they said it is fine the way it is. i got it started first kick, that was pretty impressive to me. so how important is it to run 2 full tanks of gas through it before you start getting on it?

Make sure you run it in as the shop told you, no point braking a ring after spending all that hard earned. take it easy for a couple of tanks then you can ring its neck for a couple of years. enjoy that fresh engine. :headbang:

I do a couple heat cycles, then a couple of short rides, varing the rpm using about 1/2 throttle. then a couple rides at 3/4 throttle. then I ride like a banshee.

I have also just done a couple of heat cycles on my 250r, then ride it hard with no problems that way either. good luck

cronstar. i have gone thru this with you once before. that pic of your carbs, the choke tube is missing again!!!. put it on and if he did the motor correct,it should start. leave the tors wires unplugged. it will not hurt anything.every body unplugs them and if you go with idle kits they get thrown out any way. i have piles of those tors units. i use them for batting practice.if you dont get that tube on there you WILL BURN UP YOUR NEW TOP END.
