yellabanshee Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 hey everyone, I got a stock head from another bike and was thinking of having it shaved to put on my banshee.....I have fatty's and powercore 2's and k&n with lid off..........will this shaved head give me more low end or high end? or both? what should be the amount done? I ride almost all trail riding and want more low end, will this help or hurt? thoughts? thanks Quote
BdBanshee Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Take .030" off of the head. It will shift the powerband lower in the RPM range, so basically you will gain lowend because the power will come on sooner. Quote
strokersquid Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 why would raising the compression shift the powerband ? wouldnt you just get more power lowr without affecting the top end ? Quote
rocketboy Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 (edited) adding compression will yeild gains up high in rpm too.but very high comp numbers can actually hurt topend rpm though. cutting your head is really only noticable from idle to midrange . do it... its a great mod for cheap id go .035 if it was me however Edited September 25, 2005 by rocketboy Quote
2twin350s Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 i shaved mine 20 thousands and it made a big difference. you can also go down to a 12 or 13 tooth front sprocket for more low end too Quote
87sheerips Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I shaved 20 0ver to correct the squish for my 66.5 mm bore. Not too much power diff, but made things work correctly. Quote
Rooster Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Several years ago CT Racing did my head. They took .080 off and did some rechambering work and it ran great. I've heard others say that .080 was/is too much but the bike ran that way for years and I never had a problem. With the latest build (porting, etc) they had to do some additional rechambering work because of that but no big deal. Rooster Quote
jmoore Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Definately good! Lighten the flywheel and advance your timing if you haven't done that as well. You will definately feel the difference! Quote
yellabanshee Posted September 27, 2005 Author Report Posted September 27, 2005 so, jmorre, sounds like you have the same set up as me, without the shaved head and timing and lightened flywheel........... do you ride sand only or some trails? I ride mostly tight trails and always kicking my freinds ass on a honda450r hehehee but I want more low end now.. so I thought shaving this head would be a good start I do have the sprockets done at 13 front and 44 rear.....but i need more:) Quote

yellabanshee Posted September 27, 2005 Author Report Posted September 27, 2005 dude......15/41 thats like a sand bike 75 mph.........i need the low end.......almost always in 1st gear where we ride......all tight trails, i should really be riding a 4 stroke, but i cant do it...........2 stroke make me happy.......but i want more low end torque... like a 4 stroke.......... love my banshee though:) Quote

Before I could only pull 3rd gear up some steep hills and now I can pull 4th easy! Much better in the sand!!! Quote
Blue Duece Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 NO dude a 13/41 is a sand bike .....a 15/41 is MX, Trails bike, you just have to have the balls to hang on when it starts going fast Quote

If he is riding tighter trails, who cares about top speed potential, you want lower gearing so you can get to the powerband quicker. It takes so long for it too start going fast cuz you're pulling too tall a gear. Bigger in the front/smaller in the back more top speed (higher gearing), Smaller in the front/bigger in the back more acceleration (lower gearing). Quote
